The fact that Suzanne Collins tricks us into thinking that a happy ending may occur when Coriolanus and Lucy Gray are not only inherently different but contradict each other in what they want the most. They both want what they never had in their life, but only Snow is willing to do terrible things in order to get there whereas Lucy Gray would never degrade herself into doing true evil. Tigris' humanity towards the tributes show that Coriolanus' past doesn't entitle him to act this way. He chose it all ; the evil, the torture, the deaths of innocents. Coriolanus is desperate to gain the control from which he thinks he can find stability ; Lucy Gray is a creature of freedom, everything she does aspires to it. The worse thing is, Coriolanus was the only one to fuck it all up between them, with his hubris and his inherent incapability of looking past his traumas to recognize the ones of others.
