Ideas About Lexa's Absences and what she stands to lose in the finale.

Following on from this SPECULATION

Shout out to @hedaswolf for originally taking us all to hell with the death of the ducklings theory. (huh that’s catchy)

First of all, I think that episode 7 will end with Clarke choosing to return to Arkadia with Murphy (I like the idea that episode 7/8 happen simultaneously and are separated geographically, or she could just be on the way back during the events of 8, explaining her not being listed for that episode). In Episode 7 Clarke will find out about ALIE and once Murphy tells her that the AI is with Jaha at Arkadia, Clarke is going to want to go immediately and stop her people from falling under the influence of the City of Light.

This will mirror Lexa’s decision in the season 2 finale, only this time Clarke is putting the duty to Skaikru first and leaving Lexa alone. Lexa’s position as Commander will be precarious and without Clarke, we know her chances of holding onto her position are even slimmer, but I don’t think anything terrible will happen other than their being separated as this episode already has a lot to deal with.

This means that Lexa will be absent from the next few episodes simply because she’s in Polis and the story we’ll be shown will be in Arkadia (Girl I’m gonna miss youuuuu- Milli Vanilli).

Then I think that Ontari will make her return around episode 11/12, probably slaughter all/most of the Nightbloods and usurp Lexa’s position now that she is the only nightblood left. We may or may not be shown Lexa’s actual fate, but she will likely escape from the city and go into hiding, and will be presumed dead. This explains her second absence from the show.

This means that Ontari will ascend to the position of Commander under false pretense and in fact, this will be her downfall. It is very unlikely that the true agenda of the Commander (destroying or upgrading ALIE- pick your poison) is widely known. Most grounders have just come to believe in reincarnation and spirits, without any knowledge of the City of Light. That is why it was traditional for nightbloods to be identified ASAP and sent to Polis for training, so that over time they could be taught the truth about what the Commander is really for. Ontari was not sent to Polis and was instead trained by Queen Nia, likely under the assumption that her nightblood makes her as good a candidate to replace Lexa as any. But she will actually have a huge gap in her training regarding ALIE.

If the Conclave is a test to make sure that the nightblood in a candidate’s veins is potent enough to resist the influence of the original ALIE, then Ontari may very well fail this test and either die or, since they really like to throw the s*** at the fan in this show, will end up being a ‘Commander’ under the influence of ALIE 1.0, to go in direct opposition to Lexa/ALIE 2.0 when Lexa returns.

And Lexa will return for the finale to help Clarke defeat ALIE (and possibly ALIE-ONTARI if that happens). I’m hoping that they’ll sneak her into the very end of episode 15 with a heroic last-minute arrival, as this will be an amazing oppositional echo to her early exit in season 2 and will have us all fist-pumping. Probably whilst crying. I digress.

So far Lexa is alive and well and I think she’ll end the season this way too because the will she/won’t she be able to return for S4 will create a lot of buzz for the show like it did this time around and also I’ve speculated before, killing her in the finale could very well seriously hurt the crucial ratings of the first episodes of S4 because she is so popu-LAR (toss toss).

But that doesn’t mean that Lexa will get off entirely free. I think that in the process of destroying ALI -whether this has been the Commander’s mission all along, or whether Lexa chooses to go against upgrading ALIE- Lexa will lose her ‘spirit’. She will have to sacrifice her connection to and means of communicating with her previous incarnations in order to defeat ALIE and the CIty of Light. 

On a macro scale, this basically destroys the foundation of the grounder belief system and the process of a commander even being chosen and that fact will no doubt cause trouble for Lexa. 

But on a micro level, this will be a personal blow for her too. Any lasting psychological fallout that the writers might include aside, we’ve seen Lexa more vulnerable that ever before over the first part of this season and she does, like any human, have doubts in her abilities. Will she be strong enough, just as Lexa the girl, to take back her throne and lead her people without the guidance of those who came before her? (This will probably sound very familiar to any Legend of Korra fans!)

This will set up a great character arc for her in S4, or it could very well lead to her demise at the start of the next season. But I think the writers know to leave it until then to reveal which it will/can be.

OH. MY. GOD,

So I was looking at the cast for the next episodes to see if future deaths could be figured out, and I saw Brenda Strong(Queen Nia/Nia(the way her name has her title or not is interesting))in next week’s cast. So I got curious and went on her page, and she’s cast in 10 episodes of the season.

So.

Either she’s not dead(which is pretty much not possible)

Either we see her in the city of light and that means A SHIT LOAD OF PROBLEMS

OR

WE GET FLASHBACKS AND SO VERY PROBABLY COSTIA

WHICH MAKES ME THINK EVEN STRONGER THAT TITUS HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH COSTIA’S FATE
