Yora dresses sexy for the family photo because fuk u

A family of snodesh! This is what Kaamos and his family looked like pre-Contagion. I imagine this was a Winterfest portrait taken about 10 years before the Fall.

We have:

Antonni Gallen (argyle sweater vest) – The head of house. Started off as an optimistic dreamer, but became bitter after repeated rejections from the Alchemists’ Guild. Developed a drinking problem and became possessive. He was enthusiastic about the Everlife Elixir, and went ravenous swiftly.

Eska Ivuneq (blue dress) – A sweet and clever woman with a big heart. Incredibly gifted in hermetic pursuits. Wanted to be an Alchemist, but ended up with 6 babies instead. Of course, she loved them with all her heart. Antonni coerced her into taking the Elixir, but she was killed by him before she could go ravenous, herself.

Kaamos Ivuneq (far right) – The oldest of the six, and self-appointed defender of his mother and siblings. He was the only one who grew up in their mother’s Enclave before they moved to be closer to Antonni’s university. This was what inspired his love of polar regions, and later, his degree. If he looks inappropriately possessive of his mother, that’s because he was. He did not take the Elixir, but was infected with the Contagion by his father.

Yora Ivuneq (far left) – The second oldest. Pictured here in what was probably one of many rebellious stages. She wasn’t as critical of their father as Kaamos was, but was always closer with Kaamos than anyone else. She didn’t take the Elixir and was never directly infected, making her perhaps one of the most well-preserved mordesh today.

Noatak Ivuneq (green shirt) – One of the twin boys. Serious, disciplined, and driven. Enlisted early on in the army. One of his ears grew in smaller than the other because his father hit him when he was a baby. Despite this, he looked up to his father immensely. It’s unknown whether or not he took the Elixir, but he did eventually go ravenous.

Ikiaq Ivuneq (red shirt) – The other twin. Bright, enthusiastic, a bit of a jokester. He was rather sickly all through childhood. This and his enthusiasm for science meant he was among the first to take the Elixir. Unfortunately, he was also the first in the family to die because of it.

Tanaraq Ivuneq (brown coat) – Level-headed and introspective. The most like their mother in temperament. She grew up to be a social worker. Despite taking the Elixir, she did not go ravenous, and was able to survive on the ground for a number of years before she was killed by roving ravenous.

Eeva Ivuneq (baby in arms) – The only one in the family who looked more like Dad than Mom. She was a vivacious and curious girl. She was still young and living at home when the Contagion struck. Though too young to take the Elixir, she was killed by her ravenous father alongside her mother.

To a Guy I Love

On the eve of Guy Fantastic’s 40th birthday, Rafael Bravo discretely tucked a letter beneath his pillow. The envelope smelled like citrus and vanilla, and was sealed with a glittery purple kiss.

To a Guy I love,

Some nights I dream about you.

I take a shuttle to a border moon, and I step out onto this quiet ranch with fields that stretch into the horizon. You own the whole moon, because this is the place where you’ve decided to settle down with a lady you love. I walk down a dirt road between two corrals, where I see her teaching a little girl with red pigtails how to ride a roan. I wave and they wave back, all smiles. I step up onto your porch and I knock on the front door. You open up and you don’t even say anything, you just give me the biggest, warmest hug. You look grayer, and the lines around your eyes are more obvious when you smile, but your arms feel stronger somehow. You kiss me on the cheek and then on the lips, and even though you’ve got a family, it’s not weird. It feels right. You take me out to feed the animals and go skinny dipping in the pond, and then we drink wine under a big tree until it gets dark. I kiss you all night under the stars, and just when the sun rises, I wake up.

I wish we had more time. I try not to worry, but every time I think about the future I feel my chest tighten up because I remember that we won’t have one. That’s why it hurts to love you. I never understood what people meant when they said stuff like that, but now I know. I don’t mind. I’d rather love you for a minute than never love you at all. When I think about what my life would have been without you, I think that I probably wouldn’t have one, because you saved me. You save everyone, it’s just what you do. The sick irony of it all is that none of us can save you.

There is nothing I wouldn’t do for you. I would drop everything to fly away with you, if you asked. I have loved many people in many different ways, but I have never loved anyone as deeply as I love you. When you kiss me, I feel like I might melt. When you look at me with those movie-star eyes that have stolen thousands of hearts, I feel a swell of pride knowing that I stole yours. And when you say my name in that gentle way you do, I feel loved back.

My heart has more to say, but words won’t do it justice. Meet me on the rooftop of HQ after your party. I’ve got a present for you there.

Remember that I will be there for you, forever and always.

I have this planner with these absolutely ridiculous pages with like “motivational” quotes on them that are just these bullshit things like “Let your heart sing” and “Always believe in your dreams”

and like that’s always struck me as such meaningless bullshit, I’ve always hated those. They’ve never had that element that truly motivates me.

Bhadra on Rafi: He should be angrier. He should be screaming and calling for blood. I am infuriated on his behalf. I want to protect him, but when he looks at me, I see his fear of my mother in his eyes. I want to hold him, but I cannot forget how easily his neck snapped between my teeth, like there was nothing there.

Bhadra on Yora: Look at those muscles. Look at those tattoos. Why did I never bag that?

Guy on Rafi: I hope he’s the one holding me when everything ends.

Gypsum on Mica: I tried so hard to hate him. But he’s nothing like what I imagined. He’s calm, gentle, kind. He’s so sweet with Emmie. If I’d stayed on Gnox, we’d have been married with babes of our own by now, and despite what I always believed, I think I would have been happy. I don’t want to think about that at all. It makes me feel like I gave it all up for nothing.

Kaamos on Yora: Sometimes, I forget we are separate people. We know so much about each other, have been through so much together, we may as well be one.
