A quick summary of the last 16 months

[shookye]

I like to think that one of the lessons Aizawa taught class A is "always have a knife".

You never know when you'll need a knife so never not be in possession of a knife. As such every member of class A has a knife hidden somewhere in their hero costumes. His gift to them when they graduated were custom engraved knives with their student number on them.

Not on board? Ok. Just imagine how funny it would be tho.

Villain: "Number one hero Deku! I am punch proof! The more you hit me the stronger I get! How will you defeat me now-"

Midoriya: "Knife."

Villain: "Wha-" *gets stabbed*

Midoriya: "Knife."

Hero: "Oh no! We're tied up! However will we escape!"

Tsuyu: "Knife."

Hero: "What?"

Tsuyu, pulling a knife off the bottom of her foot with her tongue: "Knife."

Groupie getting a hug: "Are you using your quirk or are you just happy to see me?"

Kirishima: "It's a knife."

Groupie: "...What?"

Kirishima: "Knife."

Villain, completely insulated in rubber: "You're a one trick pony chargebolt."

Kaminari, reaching down into his boot: "Oh boy are you wrong my dude!"

Hero: "You need to calm down."

Bakugou, reaching down into his V-neck: "Listen here you son of a BITCH-"

Hero: "WHY DO YOU HAVE A KNIFE!?"

Kouda: "Stop scaring the pigeons! They're a domesticated species that we abandoned back into the wild. They're sweet creatures who are pets by nature!"

Douchebag: "Or what?"

Kouda: "..."

Douchebag: "..."

Kouda: "..."

Douchebag: "oh my GOD HE HAS A KNIFE-"

Post no-one knows au where, once Sam and Tucker do find out, Danny realizes just all of the crazy bullshit he's been through as he starts unpacking the laundry list of ghost info to his friends in small intervals.

He realizes he has to explain Dani to them, but she's off on a cross country trip to Europe and said she won't be back again for at least a month so Danny has time.

Danny decides to fill that time by name-dropping Dani into comments and conversations whenever he can. Just small things like "Dani likes that candy," or "Dani once got stuck phasing through the ceiling."

Sam and Tucker just assume he's talking in third person whenever he does it. They don't know why he's doing it-- and boy does it annoy Sam. She's going to strangle him if she hears "Dani doesn't like that" one more time-- but every time they point it out, Danny just gives a blank look and a "What?"

Then a month later they're all hanging out at the Nasty Burger, Danny just staring out the window, and he suddenly goes "Oh, shit! Dani's back!" with a big, goofy grin.

Sam and Tucker start questioning if the ectoplasm Danny drinks has finally driven him insane, before the door opens and a tiny, pre-transition Danny just comes hurtling at him in a crushing hug.

Shit-eating grin in tow, Danny's just like "Guys, meet Dani! My sister-- sort of. Long story."

Sam and Tucker just blue screen. Sam recovers first and asks why the hell he never mentioned having another sister-- a twin possibly.

"I don't know what you're talking about; I literally mention her all the time."

It's incredible the amount of plot holes in Danny Phantom that are easily fixed if only the plot were a little darker.

Like Tucker's fear of hospitals and doctors from Doctor's Disorders, for example.

To be precise, the fact that Danny had apparently no idea that Tucker goes downright catatonic whenever he passes in front of the nurse's office as a result of his fear of anything medical related but Sam did. Especially since Danny and Tucker have known each other for as long as they've known Sam, if not longer.

If the plot were a little bit darker/more mature and didn't shy away from heavy topics like human mortality or that Danny actually died in the accident and came back to (half) life, this would all have a very simple explanation.

Danny didn't know about Tucker's fear of hospitals because it's a recent thing, while Sam does because she was there when it happened.

In other words, if you ask me, Tucker could have developed his fear after Danny's accident. After spending who knows how long inside a hospital waiting for news of his best friend's recovery, with each passing second spent there being a constant reminder of the possibility that Danny might not make it. Thus, his fear would be a result of anything medical reminding him of those agonising times and of the fear he felt at the idea of losing his best friend forever. And Sam would know about it but not Danny because she was right there by Tucker's side as they both waited while Danny was being treated and remained unaware of the world going on around him.

And just like that, you fix a plot hole, and add layers to the story, the characters and their interpersonal dymanics in one fell swoop.
