     { ☆; } What was the fun of eating something healthy? Umi should know that Rin wouldn’t go for something like that. “Any place is fine! All ramen is good ramen! Well, actually, Rin-chan probably could think of some bad ramen... Like fishy ramen...”

❝ Ramen? Well- ❞

She was going to suggest something healthier, but this was Rin. Besides, it was supposed to be a celebration of sorts.

❝ Okay. Did you have a place in mind? ❞

     { ☆; } “We should celebrate my arrival! With ramen!” It was an excuse to get ramen but also an excuse to go someplace with Umi again.

That only caused her to roll her eyes, looking off to the side. Rin really was just like a cat sometimes.

❝ I missed you too. It’s good to have you back. ❞

    { ☆; } Like the affectionate kitten she is, she rubbed her face against her. “I missed you, Umi-chan!”

❝ Y-You don’t need to thank me! ❞

She huffed, bringing a hand up to gently pat her on the head. She probably should have expected this hug, but she was still somehow unprepared.

     { ☆; } “Umi-chaaaaaan!” She’d bounce her way right over to the second year and wrap her arms around her. “Thank you!”

       { ☆; } “It’s Nozomi-chan’s birthday! As a gift, I’ll let her grab my boobs as much as she wants today! At least until I get her her real gift.”

    { ☆; } If date attire was necessary, Rin might’ve put a little more effort into what she was wearing, but not a lot. Maybe get rid of the basketball shorts and wear a skirt. But, since she has absolutely no clue the other was even considering this a date, she was happy with the comfy clothes she had on now. Rin’s never even been on a date before herself, obviously. 

              “Ooo, really? You guys have been practicing even though I’ve been away? Aaaw, I guess that means I need to catch up now... Booooring. But, if it’d dance routines, I pick up on ‘em real quick!” Besides Eli, the first year liked to pride herself in being one of the best dancers. It was probably the only upperhand she had in this group. 

       The sudden mention of her classmate caused her to turn and look at the other. “Kayo-chin? Did she? Me and her texted and Skyped a lot while I was gone, but I’ll make sure to plan something with her sometime this week!”

Umi herself was just wearing a white t-shirt with a blue shirt and a short blue coat. It wasn’t like she thought it wasn’t fine, but it felt like she should have to put more effort in for something like a date! These felt like ordinary clothes instead of date clothes. Then again, she didn’t really know what would qualify as date clothes either. She was kind of useless.

❝ N-Nothing much! Just… Practising, mostly. ❞

Ah right, she’d likely have to give Rin lessons by herself to help her catch up with everyone else when it came to the dance steps in their next song. But she wasn’t worried, Rin had always been fairly good when it came to dancing. The part she was worried about was the fact they were going to have to have a private lesson after having a date. That was kind of… No, no. She had to stop thinking about that immediately.

❝ I think Hanayo missed you quite a lot,     you’ll definitely need to go see her after     this. ❞

      { ☆; } “Rin-chan remembers quite vividly! You killed me!”

“Remember when Rin-chan was dead? I do!”

      { ☆; } “Well, since I’m back now, I guess teeeeechnically you can misbehave again.”

“Well, I haven’t touched any boobs in a while. I suppose that counts as behaving, but it’s unfortunate.”

    { ☆; } Well, if this was a date, Rin surely was dressed appropriately either. The warm weather called for a baggy crop-top, cut from a t-shirt, and a pair of basketball shorts. If anyone wasn’t dressed right, it was the first year. But, in her tiny mind full of cats and sunshine, she didn’t even realize this was everything a date would entail. She’s just going about life how she normally would, and spending time with Umi in a more relaxed setting seemed so nice.

      Truth be told, she’s equally as clueless as to how dates go. Like she makes clear often, she’s not a girly-girl. Romance and dates were boring in movies and what not. Her and Honoka always ended up falling asleep during those kind of things. Swinging their hands happily between them, there was a perk in her step, “So, what have you guys been doing while I was away? Anything good and exciting? Hope you guys didn’t have too much fun without me!”

Rin was- She was taking her hand! Was this- It had to be a date, didn’t it? Umi didn’t dress for it at all! This was… It was just… Well, embarrassing seemed like the most obvious word that came to mind. More than anything else it made her want to faint after a short moment, but she managed to persevere. Okay, so she was on a date with… With Rin. And they were getting ice cream. She could do this. 

She puffed out her cheeks slightly for just a moment, squeezing Rin’s hand. This was just fine. She was fine. Everything was fine.

❝ R-Right. ❞

She nodded, taking a deep breath. This wasn’t how she imagined her first date going, but it seemed like this was it. She had to make it count! Not only was the date on the line, her friendship with Rin was on the line too. She didn’t want her to think she was bad at dating! She just… Didn’t have a clue how to date.

    { ☆; } Was there a reason she was getting so flustered over ice cream? They got ice cream all the time as a group, and nothing was wrong with it then? Maybe she’s just really excited by ice cream. -- Rin might be good at handling people’s feelings, but she sure is oblivious when it comes to them sometimes. 

             “It’ll be fun! We’ll catch the train and then we can just enjoy the weather! The sun will be setting soon enough, so it’ll be extra pretty!” She caught up with Umi who seemed to speed right off and took a firm grasp of her hand. Rin was always someone who was loudly affectionate, so sometimes she doesn’t realize when things probably are a little more intimate than others.

Right. Ice cream, that was… Relaxing. Right? She still felt stiff all over, she was definitely not relaxed.

Wait.

Was this a date? Maybe she was over thinking things. She just needed to calm down and take a few deep breaths. She brought her hands to her face and did just that, clearing her throat and rubbing at her cheeks in an attempt to stop them from being quite so red. It didn’t work, but an effort was made.

She was suddenly positive it wasn’t a date, if only to stop herself from being quite so flustered. They were just getting ice cream! That was all it was.

❝ Th-That sounds nice. ❞

She nodded, beginning to walk in that direction without any delay.

     { ☆; } Judging by Umi’s mannerisms, changing the subject really wasn’t helping any, but hopefully once they get out and do something, the stress will slowly melt away! 

      Tapping on her chin, she tried think of a place to go, but soon, a light bulb went off in that cute little head of hers. “Nya! I know! Why don’t we go down to the boardwalk and get some ice cream and just take a nice walk! That’s nice and refreshing, especially when the weather is this nice!”

Going somewhere? Right, that was… Something that they did. She cleared her throat as if it’d clear her mind in turn, seeming surprised when it didn’t work. Clearly she wasn’t operating on all cylinders right now, she had a lot on her mind all of a sudden. She was thankful Rin was changing the subject in an attempt to give them a break, but it didn’t stop her from continuing to think about it.

❝ Going somewhere? Did you have anywhere                              in mind? ❞

That was probably the most important question, she herself didn’t have a clue. Maybe they could go and get something to eat? She doubted that’d clear her mind, though. When she got like this, there wasn’t much that’d clear it.

    { ☆; } The liking girls thing was never really brought up to Rin’s parents, but for some weird reason, she felt like they might’ve known. She didn’t want to directly say anything, though, just for the sake of peace. She can imagine all of this is a lot rougher on Umi for sure. That’s why these topics were so difficult. 

     “Well! Now that we got all of that out, we shouldn’t be thinking too much or our brains will fry! Do you wanna go somewhere, Umi? Let’s go somewhere!” It’s good to just let the topic sizzle in their minds and do something else now, she wouldn’t want to overheat the second year with too much to think about.

Thankfully for Rin, Umi was still far too flustered to notice that she was flustered at all. She did notice that she seemed to perk up once again though, that was good to know. Hopefully telling her that she shared those feelings would help her a little bit, much like she’d helped her in the past. She was positive her parents wouldn’t agree, but she was also almost positive they wouldn’t agree with her liking women. It was just one more thing to add to that.

❝ R-Right. The… The more the merrier. ❞

Now that she’d gotten that out, she seemed even more nervous somehow. She clasped her hands in front of her, looking down at them instead of to Rin. It was much easier looking at the ground, she found.
