Apart from being an esteemed journalist and distinguished writer, Govindlal Vora had the hidden talent of photography. Time and again he proved his photography skills by capturing historical moments. He believed in covering his stories to the extreme depth and analyzing every aspect of it, hence he preferred doing photography himself.
He captured many important political activities such as speeches, conferences organized and events attended by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Pt. Govind Vallabh Pant and other political leaders. He never missed on any moment and presented the news with due credibility

Govindlal Vora was a socialist while being a journalist and hence he went an extra mile to capture the story of hardships, changes and improvements of the tribal sections of Chhattisgarh. While the veteran journalist Govindlal Vora is known for his fearless and unbiased journalism, his integral personality was of a philanthropist. The quality and success of his journalism was the result of his urge to work to towards the betterment of society and upliftment of the human race, along with his passion for writing.
Before leaving this world in 2018, Govindlal Vora actively and dedicatedly participated in every endeavor working for the social causes. Apart from the social institutions, he was an esteemed lifetime member of the Rotary International Club. Apart from being the District Governor, he held many positions of power in the Rotary Club.

Considered as the Godfather of Indian journalism, Govindlal Vora passed away in year 2018 after suffering from Pneumonia and breathing-related problems. The passion for writing and vision for working towards social upliftment, encouraged him to highlight the true picture of the society. His contributions to the journalism are immeasurable.

The six decades of fearless and unbiased journalism has not only earned him respect but also introduced the state of Chhattisgarh to the world. Imagining Chhattisgarh’s journalism without his leadership is a hard nut to crack. He was integral member of many associations working towards the wellbeing and betterment of journalists.
Govindlal Vora was the driving force behind the foundation of Raipur Press Club. He believed that the young journalists needed to develop strong principles and should adopt an honest approach in covering any news, issue or event. He wanted the journalists to meet and discuss new ideas to empower the national journalism. He even held the position of Director of the Raipur Press Club.

Nothing stayed untouched by Govindlal Vora. He was the Director of the Chhattisgarh Hindi Literature Convention. He also encouraged the foundation of the press community at Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University. In parallel, he stayed an active member in many social institutions like ’Gram Seva Samiti’ and ‘Krishi Gaurakshini’ which operated on the principles and visions of Mahatma Gandhi.

Be it Shanti Sarovar in Chhattisgarh or Mount Abu in Rajasthan, he was regular and dedicated visitor at the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University. The Divine Sister BK Kamala ji was aware of this spiritual side of Govindlal Vora and hence she would often seek his advice. Even his wife Prakash Vora accompanied him in his spiritual journey and was often found by his side during his visits to Brahma Kumaris.
Govindlal Vora became such an integral part of the Brahma Kumaris movement that he was even invited to lay the foundation of one of the Brahma Kumaris University in Chhattisgarh. He was close to the BK leader Dadi Janaki and used to seek her blessings & counsel before choosing any new path.

Early Life of Veteran Journalist Govindlal Vora

With the roots of Rajasthan and upbringing of Chhattisgarh, a gem of a journalist was born during the struggles of Indian Independence. The feelings of patriotism seeped into the womb and the child was born in 1932 in Nagaur, Rajasthan to become one of the most celebrated hindi journalist of India. Govindlal Vora is known for his invaluable contribution towards journalism and his active involvement towards the upliftment of society.
The early life of Govindlal Vora was every inch a roller coaster. Trying to find the voice amid the independence struggles by educating himself with utmost dedication and realizing his passion for writing, he started giving words to his thoughts, which in turn gave the voice to his honest journalism.
Vora did his schooling from Chhattisgarh and gained Masters of Arts in Political Science from Madhya Pradesh. At the age of 18, while pursuing his education, he started doing freelance journalism and got recognized by esteemed media houses for his honest news coverage. By twenties, his views and thoughts started reverberating throughout the nation as starting for Hindustan Times, Nav Bharat Times, The Statesman, Illustrated Weekly, Telegraph and Jai Hind.
He became one the youngest Chief Editors at the age of 27. His proficiency in both Hindi and English landed him in Deccan Chronicle in 1975 where he maintained his post of Chief Editor. This made Govindlal Vora one of the few people in the country who was simultaneously the Chief Editor of both Hindi and English newspapers. His revolutionary thoughts and excellent writing skills were read and appreciated not only nation-wide but also internationally as many of his articles were published in Wall Street Journal and New York Times.
Vora eventually went on to establish his own newspaper, Amrit Sandesh in 1984 and since then the newspaper has been most trusted and reputed daily in Chhattisgarh. The demise on Govindlal Vora in 2018 has paused the golden era of journalism.
