James Delaney x Matthew Joy (Taboo x In the Heart of the Sea crossover ship)

Occult pirates AU :

Here is the idea : the AU takes place during the 18th century, during the golden age and then twilight of the piracy. Basically, this is Pirates of the Carribean-inspired.

Remember this scene in ITHOTS where Matthew Joy is dying on the island? What if James Delaney appeared to him as a supernatural legendary entity and proposed him to save him from death in exchange for an eternity of servitude on his ship as a crew member?

Matthew would become first mate on James' black sailed ship which appears out of nowhere, coming out of some mist, to attack other ships and especially the India Company's ones with whom James is at war on the seven seas. There would be dark magic, voodoo, supernatural elements, piracy, rhum, Matthew's alcoholism, James' mommy issues, naval battles, and of course a love story between the captain and his ever loyal first mate, because James would find in Matthew a reliable and loyal to the end, sarcastic partner, and Matthew would be fascinated and weirdly attracted to the man known among sailors as the Devil Delaney, who appears to the damned and vowed to die soon to offer them a deal, according to the legend. Matthew would follow James to hell and back, where James will of course lead him. They would fight side by side and sail on the oceans until the end of times.

(and about the why of James'curse and nature, well maybe some ocean god cursed him for what he did on the seas in his past, or his sister with magical powers did it because of their love, or a Ghanaian sorcerer did it to punish him? There can be many versions of a legend)

So here's one of our rarest ships. We ship Matthew Joy (The Heart of the Sea) and James Delaney (Taboo). The reason ? They both have a close relationship with the sea (and traveled, even if it is for different reasons), They have this dynamic of strange and manipulative gruffy asshole x loyal brave and laconic Man. Their stories are heavy and lead to very good angst or alternate universes...

And we called the ship "Dubliners", because we thought Matthew was called "Joyce" and not "Joy", just like James Joyce !
