So far it’s been two days at my new job and I’m loving it! It’s a lot of tedious data management work flow stuff, but it’s waaay better than being a deli worker thats for sure.

Despite having does this quite a few times, it doesn’t stop the heaviness in Yukino’s stomach. She sighs, figuring at least he wasn’t being obnoxious and has been polite throughout all their interactions. The kid’s cold, but at least he has manners. Her eyes widen as she remembers something that might bring some sort of compromise. 

“So...there’s this run around Yoyogi Park for a charity that I’m gonna be participating this weekend.  If your up for it, I can sign you up. You don’t have to be super fit or anything. You can power walk the whole way if you want to.”

She feels her old sportive, competitive side coming back and she folds her arms over her chest in a confident pose. 

“Or, try to out run me.” 

“Unfortunate…”

The male utters, never changing his expression, however, there was a slight hint of disappointment in his voice, he gives a polite bow to the girl.

“….but understandable…forgive my forwardness.”

Yukino can’t quit figure out for sure, but she feels like she’s said something wrong. Insensitive? Awkward? Naoya’s face gives hints that make her stomach heavy with worry. 

“Again, I’m sorry if I...made you feel uncomfortable.” She pulls her cap lower to hide her eyes. Yukino muses over his kind words. 

“Be myself, huh?” She brings her hand up in front of her and balls it into a fist, eyeing the scars from her youth still there. Being myself...

“Mhm? Well, I did always try my best to make sure you guys didn’t do anything stupid.” Yukino chuckles softly at the memories of her time in Hermlin. 

How is it possible to feel disillusioned by this outcome, even when he had already felt a strong premonition of the aim that underlay her words beforehand? 

No. For a split second there, Naoya had come close to being convinced that Yukino must have drastically changed over the years. Her friendship with Maya Amano is sure indication of her growth, if her Persona alone isn’t proof enough. Only, he hadn’t anticipated for her to develop as far as… speaking her mind in a much more agreeable manner compared to the blunt honesty from back in St. Hermelin’s.

Demon negotiation, was it? Suddenly, the corners of his mouth feel almost too heavy to continue sustaining a smile.

“D– don’t sweat it.” The ‘guinea pig’ comment stings more than it ought to. “I don’t know about Amano’s advice, but I think you’ll do pretty well as long as you simply act yourself.” He offers her a candid grin. “You have a way with words when it comes to encouragement, right?”

This guy is serious...

She’d had young guys at the youth centre ask her on dates before, in the usual awkward manner, or in an overly cocky fashion. But this...he sounded so serious. It was really straight forward, something Yukino just was not used to seeing in someone his age. 

“I-listen, I’m flattered by your offer and all, but I’ll have to decline.” She says politely as she can. Does this kid have a weird older woman complex?

“Yes, I’d still like to go on a date with you.”

The male utters in a pretty matter-of-fact way, he couldn’t care less about these sorts of restrictions,he enjoyed the girl’s company, he’d like to spend more time with her, for him, it was simple like that.
