🎉 I’m down with the perennial “New Year, New You” buzz as a catalyst for change. One reservation: most of the time all the talk is just talk. 🗣 Creating yourself does not involve isolated New Year’s Resolutions without a game plan. Be more than just talk! 6 Goal Setting Tips for Creating Yourself: 1️⃣ You are the CEO of your body. You create it, run it, & nourish it. Create a mission statement. Short term (3 months) & long term (1 year or more) from now. What EXACTLY do you want to accomplish? 2️⃣ Think SMART: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic & Timely. “Getting fit” is not as helpful as mastering inversions in yoga or going to kickboxing twice a week for 4 weeks. BY what magnitude do you want to get stronger, faster, happier? How much weight do you want to lose and by when? Incorporate this into your mission statement. 3️⃣ Passion drives progress and the goal informs the content. What is your PASSION? Let it lead you. It can come from anywhere, but it has to be YOURS. If you establish WHY, the HOW will follow. Think about what excites you. If you’ve always wanted to learn to salsa or slaughter a mud run, think about the specific workouts and steps that will get you there. 4️⃣ TELL someone. Your friend, your boss, all of Instagram. It helps keep you accountable, allows people to encourage you, and might connect you with others who have similar goals. POST IT. Make it known. 5️⃣ Make calendar appointments. The CEO doesn’t cancel. Do you function better in the morning? Do you work better as part of a team? Remove the obstacles. Lay out your clothes the night before or join the gym that’s on your way home. 6️⃣ Progress is not linear. It’s circuitous. Celebrate tiny victories. You are ONE of ONE & that is pretty damn awesome. 🙌🏽 Screw New Year’s Resolutions that you know you’re not going to keep. Instead, step up to being the CEO of your BODY for 365, little by little. FEAR IS FUEL. 💥 The morning of my first 100-mile ulramarathon, I leaned into the fear knowing I have survived 100% of my worst days. Every single one - being held at gun point, losing loved ones, horrible breakups, lost opportunities, big mistakes - I'm still standing. So, I ate the fear race morning and let it fuel me. ✨ The thing with eating fear for breakfast is that it feels funny. It's not like my favorite marathon day breakfast of almond butter and toast. When you sprinkle fear on top, it comes with some other ingredients - swagger, hustle, and bravery. Fear means you care. Fear means you’re alive. Fear means you're willing to fight. And with fear, as every superhero knows, survival instincts kick in. 🍽 // This 100-mile race day was no different. I swallowed the fear and tucked swagger in my back pocket for the later miles, until I crossed that finish line and the bling was around my neck. Another chapter, written. 💌 Every time we race, we are writing stories with our feet. Some chapters are filled with cramps and chaffing, some are ebullient and powerful, but they are all yours. I've never met an interesting person with an easy life. Use the fear. Own the pen.
