Medalist Chapter 1 Ramblings (part 3)

When Inori goes to school in the following scene, we’re exposed to another sphere in her life, that is having a detrimental impact on her self-perception. At school, Inori is a lone wolf who struggles academically and as a result, a student her peers have a low opinion of. During a break, Inori is once again digging for worms to trade in. Upon seeing her, her classmates make snide comments about how weird and gross Inori is. Yet, Inori continues to dig at the dirt, a desperate expression staining her face as she says internally, “I’ll get good at it and compete”.

Inori is so devastatingly self aware. She knows her weaknesses and is well aware of other’s perceptions of her, spurred by her weaknesses. She wants to change and is doing what she can to change. Inori desperately wants something for herself, that she can succeed in, to help start chipping away at her insecurities and build up her confidence. Something that’s hers where she can really show out and prove, not only to others, but to herself, that she CAN be good at something. And she’s found a means of doing this through something she has a deep love and excitement for: figure skating.

As tears fall from her eyes with her hands covered in soil, you see Tsukasa’s words running through Inori’s mind. “You can’t afford to start much later”. Inori truly just wants to do something she loves and use it to empower her to become a better version of herself. In this panel, you see the culmination of her fears and her desires weighing over her and a realization that with time running out, if something doesn’t change, she might be forever stuck in this place. 

And so, she acts.

Very important, for those concerned

Hello friends, thank you for what you have done in the past period, and thank you for your contribution in any way. I love you all without exception.

Friends, as I told you before, I am studying computer engineering at the Islamic University of Gaza, and this is my last academic year, and as you know, the university needs approximately $600 per semester to pass, divided over 3 months. However, today I need the second installment of these costs, which is approximately $250. I am about to have midterm exams, and my university page has been closed because they need to pay the installment.

Exams start in just two days from now so this is very important, I need to raise the money as soon as possible guys, otherwise it will affect my education negatively, please guys this is my only dream left and that is to graduate from university and get a job to help my family .

A simple and important note, guys, I may receive some donations now, but they may be for my cousin's orphaned family who lost their father a few days ago. I would like to extend my thank and gratitude for the support you have been offering over the last eleven months. ❤️☺️

My family and I have been suffering and going through the hardest days we have ever experienced in our life . Things are very hard to get and and sometimes unattainable.😭😓

No cooking gas and the primitive method of cooking is the only alternative.

Our sufferings and hardship started on the first days of the war when all our possessions were completely destroyed and burned. We have become displaced and homeless , finding ourselves in a small tent in streets with no means of life. We lack every single necessary thing of life; food, water, hygiene essentials, and other necessities have become scarce and rare.

A photo taken to show how incredibly harsh our life has become after the war. We are struggling and facing lots of barriers to obtain the simplest necessities for living. Everything single thing is a complete story.

You can't imagine what difficulties we have been going through all these days of war. No cooking gas , nor cooking tools exist . We struggle to prepare a small meal of food.

The tragedy of getting some water for the daily use .

No bakeries are available. Everything seems a miracle and unbelievable.😭 The war has stolen our joy and smile, leaving us busy thinking only of staying safe and alive. Our future has gone with the wind and our kids lost their dreams and ambitions.

This is a part of burying the dead. We also face some problems in the process of buying our dead people as no place is there for the family. Tombs aren't enough for the number of people living on a small spot of land.

All what we need is to survive the war and be safe. We are trying to secure the daily basic living necessities and this can come true with your contribution and support. sis as you're an anime fan who likes shoujo and fantasy, might i interest you in donghua (chinese anime)? my favourite 2 are MDZS and xie wang zhui qi. quality on quality. MDZS is painful deep and deals in themes of classism, politics, etc within a xianxia world, and xie wang zhui qi is also xianxia but leans more on the fantasy adventure side. they're both romance but the romance is kinda secondary in my opinion to the plot. the relationship in xie wang zhui qi reminds me of sylusmc in a way too. MDZS is currently my obsession though 😄

The way I think I’ve only ever watched one (?) donghua, but lemme spread my wings and add them to my list to tap into 💆🏾‍♀️

Medalist Chapter 1 Ramblings (part 2)

In the scene when Inori returns home, though we’re only presented with a couple of panels, we get a better sense of the home environment that’s played a part in shaping Inori into the child she is currently.

When Inori comes home late from her run in with Tsukasa, she’s barely stepped foot over the threshold of her home when her mom barrages her with questions about her whereabouts and why she’s coming home so late. Questions, mind you, she’s not asking with any intent of getting answers based on how she continues to speak, leaving no room for Inori to answer, before ending the conversation.

Herein lies the problem with Inori’s home environment that has aided in shaping her into this anxious bundle of insecurity. There is no space for her voice in her home. There’s no room for Inori to voice her thoughts and feelings; a truth Inori is all too aware of. Her awareness of this fact, compounded with her low self-esteem and perception of herself as a burden, cause Inori to constantly shrink into herself and repress her thoughts and feelings.

You see this manifest outwardly through Inori’s body language as she apologizes to her mother, shrinking and hiding herself as she again clasps her hands tightly behind her back, hiding the paper Tsukasa gave her to show her mother. Crumpling it away behind her back along with her thoughts and whatever confidence she had to speak with her mother; her eyes again downcast and her head bowed slightly towards the ground in defeat.
