Maybe the real reason Curly and the elder Curtis’s have beef is because when they went to a Mexican restaurant with Pony, Sodapop and Darry just begged Curly to order for them in Spanish, because despite Ponyboy’s biliteracy, he was too shy. Eventually Ponyboy got sick of their bullshit and ordered for himself in English to the waitress, who was Angela Shepard and spoke fluent English. Now the older brothers and curly constantly go back and forth between “racist” and “little asshole who didn’t tell them his sister spoke English.” Ponyboy always loses despite near uninvolvement and being the universal favorite.
