I think it's a kind of important aspect to Dick's character that he sees Bruce (and people in Bruce's age group) as closer to being his peers than any of the younger members of the Batclan, and that his relationship with Bruce is closer and has existed longer, and this is partly why all attempts to reduce his age difference with the younger Bats end up feeling like they're robbing something from him.

not all ships are For wanting them to be in a happy healthy relationship together. sometimes shipping two characters means you want them to be erotically obsessed with each other and become entwined in a mutually toxic love affair for a few months and then horrifically break each other's hearts and never speak again. sometimes you want them to be codependent best friends with enough repression to explode a submarine who only make out/have sex when they're at their worst. sometimes you want them to pine after each other for years, never say anything, and then die. sometimes you want them to kill each other. this, too, is shipping

Absolutely can't stand this one character/trope/relationship? Exclude, exclude, exclude. And all they ask in return is that you tag your stuff properly. Incredible.

so embarrassing when people try to turn him against bruce. he could be actively screaming raging fist fighting with batman in front of you yelling at bruce that he'd rather get hit by a truck than spend another minute talking to him and he'd still turn around and bite your head off if you even THOUGHT he would ever turn a single fiber of his being against batman

No matter what came next, that moment became the foundation. Bruce had started it. Bruce had been the one to close the distance.

He told himself afterward that he shouldn’t have. That it would have been safer if Dick had been the one to move first. Now he couldn’t untangle the possibilities. Did Dick kiss him back because he wanted to, or because Bruce had acted first?

Now that I'm thinking about it... How many of the batkids (especially Robins) had their first inappropriate crush on Bruce?

Like, most kids have it on a teacher, or someone in a similar position of power. But Bruce is the ultimate "adult who showed kindness to me" for his kids - sometimes he's even the first to have done so.

Add in that they're all at least half traumatized, and that's got to fuck with their heads.
