this was the animation I created to go along with my newest poster design. i find it helps me to go between after effects and indesign in order to get a design that works both as a poster and as an animation.
here, i have the curtains opening and the spotlight trickling down, utilising opacity/fade ins. when at the hollywood, before they start showing the movie and the shorts before, they have the curtains closed and then open then to reveal the screen. i tried to recreate that here.

On tuesday, i showed Caroline the top two posters and recieved the feed back that the first one was more visually interesting yet lacked the meaning that the second one has and that the second one's 'curtains' are maybe a bit chopsticky and i could extend out the curtains from the edge of the page and go on to do the abstract type from the first one and have it go under the curtains as if it were a spotlight or something appearing from behind the curtains.

this is another attempt at adding motion to my poster ideas. this one is a more literal representation of a stage setup as the lines are setup like curtains falling or opening so that a spotlight can fall. this animation shows the intersection between film and music performances shown at the Hollywood as the word cinema - which is only really associated with film is the most significant word out of the quote i used and the spotlight depicts theatrics. it also showcases the different setups the Hollywood uses to adapt to these events.

adding motion!
i decided to take some inspiration from older movie intro sequences with the use of lines, making and tracking as they are really easy to use but it is additionally highly relevant to my place! i chose to use black and red as opposed to my previous concept with white and red as i thought it would be more moody/mysterious which suits the esoteric environment that the hollywood has fostered. i still need to refine this sequence but it was really good to have a play on ae.

New poster iterations!!
The first idea I have is quite simliar to the previous ideas i've had but i really wanted to experiment with scaling and layout. I think this worked out really well however I think the '"Best' and 'In New Zealand"' is a bit small and from a distance would be hard to read so I think I need to work on that as well as maybe the placement of letters as when I got feedback, I got told that i should probably switch the 'I' and 'N' so that it reads a bit more smoothly and after being told that I defiantly see it.
I worked off of the feedback I got for my las posters and tried to apply that here. I liked the idea of a film reel but I got told that it should probably read left to right otherwise it could get misconstrued and read backwards so i flipped it and also only made the squares/perforations not go up the full way. I really like this idea and think that it's really sucessful however the negative space feels a bit awkward.

Poster Reposter, 2024, Einziehen Umr盲umen, Motion Graphic/Poster
This was created in 2024 for the Kunstraum Baden which has been a landmark for contemporary art for over half a century. This animation was created to advertise the first exhibition at their new location. The work focuses on depicting a visual identity as the exhibition is centred around rearranging and change which this animation depicts through its use of moving typography as well as the green lines that are reminiscent of tape that both highlights and crosses out the text. I like the way the type moves in and out and I would like to experiment with such techniques in my work.

This is some new experimentation that i have generated playing with new text ideas relating to my chosen place. I have cited David Lynch as one of my inspirations and have seen a few of his films at the Hollywood. I have been working on new text assets to play around with. I've been trying to utilise a quote said by Quinten Tarantino on my place as well as the different kinds of events the Hollywood does and the bridge between film and live music. All of these designs are very rough and need to be polished up but it was really good to have received feedback so that I know what's working for me so far.

This animated poster was created by London based studio, Spin for BBC's new typeface, 'BBC Reith'. A series of animated posters were created for this campaign, each demonstrating the versatility of this typeface. I was drawn to this poster as it demonstrates the typeface's adaptability to a multitude of languages as well as the different variations, including serif and sans-serif variations of the font. Additionally, it demonstrates the simplicity of the typeface displayed through both the typeface itself and the simplistic black and white colour palette; leaving room for adaptability and to not distract and add different connotations to the typeface. I was drawn to the hierarchy and playfulness of this poster as it immediately draws you to the 'B' swinging back and fourth.

This animated poster was created by Studio Husmee. I chose this poster because I thought the way the colours switch and how the text rotates on beat was very engaging and interesting. The rotating of the text is something I would be interested in exploring.

David Moloney: MakingIt21, Ben Brookbanks from Multiadaptor (Copyright 漏 Makingit21, 2021)
This animated poster was created by Davind Moloney to showcase 21 quotes by 21 creatives in times of struggle. I chose this poster as I like how the 'Look' zooms in and catches your eye and how the 'Learn Continuously' loops around. I though this was a very clever and successful design.

The first poster I chose really caught my attention and I thought the typography was really interesting and eye-catching. I really like the way each letter connects to each other and is really simple in that it only uses black and white but clearly this poster was created very intentionally. I like how there is additionally smaller text that around the poster that creates a border.
The second poster I chose stood out to me as I really like the use of colour and is quite similar to my colour scheme. I really like the texture in the background of this poster as well as the different weights of the typeface used in the This Is Not Yours. I think this poster does a really good job at making a statement with type. I think similarly to my poster, the colours printed out a bit to homogenous and get a bit lost which I imagine is something both of us will have to work on.
