From what I've gathered reading your blog you seem to be very much pro-kink, even the ones most people would find 'gross' and until very recently this was something I agreed with. Fantasies are just fantasies and don't have any meaning on reality, right? But lately I decided to browse through some masochistic kink tags on Tumblr out of bored curiosity and what I found made me feel sick to my stomach. Teenage girls (that's what they mostly were) posting about being raped, made into sex slaves, being 'put in their place as women' by men, it all seemed like something out of a misogynist's wet dream. I don't know what I expected by checking in those tags in the first place, but I didn't think it would be that extreme. It just seems hard to imagine a young woman posting about being bred like livestock as is her place as a female and going back to having a healthy view of herself and others as women when she's done. Especially teenagers, since their minds are still growing and being molded by what they experience. It reminded me that I've been seeing a lot BDSM bleeding (heh) over into mainstream vanilla sex, like choking and beating. It just seems like maledom is becoming synonymous with sex and sexuality itself, and I don't think it's natural. Femdom is still and always was very niche, so unless someone wants to argue that women are naturally more masochistic than men I think a lot of female masochism is a result of living in and being influenced by a male-dominated world and should not be seen as healthy and encouraged. This ended up being a lot longer than I expected, but you generally have pretty good takes on things and so I was curious about your opinion on this.

If this seems shocking and extreme to you, I don't think you've explored freaky porn spaces very much. When I personally was 14, I was reading snuff stories with dudes jizzing into bullet holes. The ones that weren't about shooting featured long, detailed descriptions of strangulation. Plenty of them also featured misogyny kink, but my favorite author and photo essayist was always writing about herself as a murdered corporate spy and shit like that without any particular misogynistic element. She'd make her husband cart her around and take photos of her playing dead.

My favorite movie was Crash. It just spoke to something inside of me.

I am far healthier for having been able to explore that through fiction without being yelled at and told I was mentally ill. Kinks develop early, and you cannot make teen girls not have rape kinks. They're one of the most common human sexual fantasies that exists!

We don't know where these things come from, but pathologizing them or imagining they come directly from art teens are looking at right then is shitty. Many people can trace the kinks they find sexual as adults back to things they were obsessed with in early childhood. I think it's possible that misogyny kink would decline somewhat if society got less misogynist, but rape kinks aren't going anywhere, and this kind of social change would be years too late for anyone who's currently a teen even if you could wave a magic wand today.

New Unity Series

For the past year I have been struggling to crawl uphill and I was burned out. This past week or so I have been inspired by one of my friends, @obeysalsaverde, to write for a character I had on the back burner.

The worldbuilding is ongoing, and I have been taking it as an opportunity to do what I’ve wanted with the Obey Me characters. I’ve struggled for so long with actually just doing what I have wanted to, write what I wanted to write, and while that anxiety persists, I have chosen to just do it. I don’t know if this means I’ll be doing more on Tumblr yet, Muse and I have so much happening and we both want to redo our Tumblr skins, but I am being more active on a new story.

I have a new fic I’m doing for a fandom. Prologue was 2.3k, the first chapter was 4k, and the second has ended up being 5.6k. I am not adhering to any word count structure with my story, and allowing myself to just say “This is a good place to end the chapter” has been my way of remaining happy with my work as well as keeping myself from burning out. I also am writing the fic for a professional editor, who hasn’t been nitpicking my terrible grammar etc. She said she doesn’t nitpick if she’s not being paid and that made me realize, I can just...not care and write without worrying about these rules of language. Ultimately, I was writing the fic for a friend, for myself, and because it made me happy. So just, don’t focus or allow myself to be overconcerned with something that’s only hurting me and my story. I will edit and go through later, but that can be for the times where my brain doesn’t know what to write. Keeps the story in my head, but without the stress of writing impeding my ability to edit. And writing without my editing stressing me to the point of no longer moving forward with my work.

Hopefully that’s something that helps others as well.

I saw a post talking about how Terry Pratchett only wrote 400 words a day, how that goal helped him write literally dozens of books before he died. So I reduced my own daily word goal. I went down from 1,000 to 200. With that 800-word wall taken down, I’ve been writing more. “I won’t get on tumblr/watch TV/draw/read until I hit my word goal” used to be something I said as self-restraint. And when I inevitably couldn’t cough up four pages in one sitting, I felt like garbage, and the pleasurable hobbies I had planned on felt like I was cheating myself when I just gave up. Now it’s something I say because I just have to finish this scene, just have to round out this conversation, can’t stop now, because I’m enjoying myself, I’m having an amazing time writing. Something that hasn’t been true of my original works since middle school. 

And sometimes I think, “Well, two hundred is technically less than four hundred.” And I have to stop myself, because - I am writing half as much as Terry Pratchett. Terry fucking Pratchett, who not only published regularly up until his death, but published books that were consistently good. 

And this has also been an immense help as a writer with ADHD, because I don’t feel bad when I take a break from writing - two hundred words works up quick, after all. If I take a break at 150, I have a whole day to write 50 more words, and I’ve rarely written less than 200 words and not felt the need to keep writing because I need to tie up a loose end anyways. 

Yes, sometimes, I do not produce a single thing worth keeping in those two hundred words. But it’s much easier to edit two hundred words of bad writing than it is to edit no writing at all.

XD not me having had a very similar conversation as this not three days ago. Mine was more that MC gets Beel to realize and understand that Diavolo is lonely and so Beel gets all determined to actually befriend Diavolo. Months pass of the two having meals together, Diavolo attending Beel's Fangol games, and Diavolo realizes he's in love, but doesn't want to ruin this new friendship he has. Beel honestly thought they were dating after a conversation with Asmo (wherein Asmo listed all of the couply things the two did as he tried to get Beel to answer a question about their relationship) occurred, but, get this, Beel never actually thought to communicate that with Diavolo because "If Asmo thinks we're dating then we must be."

Like, no, Beel, baby. You have to ask him to confirm that you're dating, even if it doesn't ultimately change your relationship beyond labels. Especially since it may be obvious to you now, but it wasn't before and Asmo was honestly just guessing.

Beel does love Diavolo too, he just thought that was obvious and didn't need to be communicated because he loves Dia "more than he loves food." So like, communication guys. Please.

I just had this hilarious idea of Beel and Diavolo accidentally courting each other. Like Beel overheard his brothers talking about how lonely Dia must be because of his role as future ruler of the Devildom keeps him fairly secluded and he decides one day to send Diavolo a photo of what he was eating and explaining why the prince should try it. He just does this from that day onwards and Diavolo starts sending Beel back selfies of him eating the food Beel recommended, and it just kind of escalates from there to the point the brothers genuinely think they're dating.

Lucifer has a crisis because 1) Diavolo is his prince and can't be seen courting just anyone, and 2) that's his little brother and he's unsure whether or not he deems Diavolo worthy to be courting him in the first place. The rest of the brothers are firmly on the latter. They are constantly scheming of different ways to break them up without inciting a full on civil war (they're not going through that again, thank you very much).

Of course neither Beel nor Dia are aware of the unintentional chaos they are creating by literally just sending each other selfies. They're just two oblivious teddy bears who are happy to have a friend.

Diavolo: * sends selfie of him eating grilled scorpion *

Brothers: oh fuck what do we do--

i know nobody here cares but i'm gonna bitch here about it anyway since this is my AI art blog: it *really* bites my ass that neuralblender, the thing that has become astoundingly popular seemingly overnight for AI art, very transparently uses several pre-made AI Art code assets without any sort of credit towards the creators who spent months of hard work on that code.

I'm genuinely a little offended that clicking on "credits" brings you to a page where they ask you to spend microtransaction money on generating stuff from other people's code notebooks (THAT YOU CAN ACCESS FOR COMPLETELY FREE, WITH MORE OPTIONS, THAT RUN FASTER, HERE'S NEURALBLENDER HYPERION AND HERE'S NEURALBLENDER CRONOS, BOTH FOR FREE THAT YOU CAN RUN AS MUCH AS YOU WANT, FROM THE ORIGINAL CREATORS), and not, like, a page crediting the original sources of their code.

just as to continue the gripe chain the website is also just lazy as hell, they didn't even change the favicon from the default react icon, so the fact that neuralblender is exploding and the original creators of the work (and the people whose shoulder's they are standing on; Advadnoun, RiversHaveWings, and DanielRussRuss for starters) don't receive a lick of credit or acknowledgement really just bothers the shit out of me, that they can exploit the hard work of the developers in the AI art scene without crediting them.

A friend of mine from around here who is Very Christian and has never had a Jewish friend before was asking me some stuff about antisemitism today, and it made me realize that the ways people talk about various types of bigotry and racism are so designed to stump people about the nature and purpose of systems of oppression. "Why do people hate the jews so much?" is such a common refrain and while there have been many books and articles written pulling apart all the important contextual and historical things that can help people understand antisemitism SPECIFICALLY, what I ended up saying to my friend was this:

"Something to understand about antisemitism is it isnt just ideological. The expulsion of jews from various countries was very often a method of "legally" seizing their wealth when the church needed money. It has been historically an incredibly convenient source of both a group of people to blame and also an easy way to just... Be able to steal from people, lmao. It has served very concrete material purposes for churches and governments throughout history. Sometimes you have to approach asking those questions from a different angle because it often isnt about the hatred so much as it is about ... Redirecting energy and attention, right, like upholding structures that benefit those in power. The hatred is convenient because it allows those in power to take actions that would not be tolerated if the group in question were not considered to be Exceptional in their inhumanity. Like the undocumented immigrants now, asking "why do they hate the immigrants so much" isnt always a productive avenue of thought because the hatred is usually just... Useful. Rather it is more helpful to ask "Who does it benefit for these people to be treated this way" -> "what do they need to make the general public believe about that group of people in order to justify this treatment". I think sometimes we are made to think hatred of jews is special and rooted in something different than other hatred... It's not. I mean all types of racism etc are unique. But it very much is about justifying actions that benefit a ruling class in all instances, imo."

✨Welcome to the world, little puffling!✨

We’re excited to announce that our tufted puffin colony and our un-beak-lievable aviculture team have been raising our first-ever tufted puffin chick!

Our aviculture and veterinary teams have been monitoring the little lady’s progress since the egg was laid on June 6th. Since it hatched on July 19th, we’ve seen this cute black puffling grow from a mere 61 grams to 483 grams as of today!

We were able to keep an eye on the chick behind the scenes while her parents reared her in their nest in our seabird exhibit thanks to specially-designed tunnels that mimic the deep burrows that puffin parents dig for their families in the wild. Now she’s fully behind the scenes with our aviculture team for a short time, practicing her swimming and eating skills until she has fully fledged and can join the rest of her colony on exhibit sometime within the next few weeks.

This is the first time we have attempted to rear tufted puffins at the aquarium. The birds in our colony are part of a Species Survival Plan (SSP), a program managed by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums that oversees the health and breeding of over 180 tufted puffins at 14 different facilities.
