#Week 15: Ethos, Pathos, Logos FTW!
Almost done with this semester and this picture describes exactly how the end of the semester has me! The feels are real!
Section A: As a Writer...
The way I will achieve using rhetorical appeal throughout my website is to make sure that each piece of writing that goes one each page is liable and has enough detail backed up with supported evidence (if needed). For instance with the “About Me” page, I can have the use of pathos involved since I’m talking about my future and what I plan on achieving. Ethos and Logos can be implemented within the assignment and course reading reflections since my writing will be credible (it goes through ethos) and I’ll be implementing logical information--facts, statistics, and photos that are valid (ties to logos). The viewer will be able to see little clips of each rhetorical appeal and have an idea of the concepts that I am using.
Section B: As a Designer...
The way that I will achieve ethos, pathos and logos is by using the 5 special elements that make a website, the perfect website. Having an even portion of text and photos will go very nicely in a website, just so the reader doesn’t feel overwhelmed with a huge amount of photos or text. I will make sure to keep my website consistent within every section and make sure that it has a special flow to it in order to keep the viewer/audience engaged. As far as color details go, I won’t be implementing flashy colors--instead I’ll use more soft and professional kind of colors. I want the audience to feel informed and stay engaged as much as possible. I will make sure to follow each of the guidelines required for my website and will take some thought into expanding my vision more--without making it to flashy, but have it more eye-catching to the viewer.

Hi there! I thought it was really wise off you to showcase the title page of your personal website. Very well executed! The colors fit absolutely right, especially since you’re going for more of a serious yet shocking touch. For section A, you wrote some really excellent points on how you would be executing ethos, pathos and logos. I really do feel like you’ll keep your audience/viewer engaged with all the different aspects that your applying in your website. For Section B, you grasped the concept of using the 5 elements mentioned in the previous tumblr and applied them well in your writing. Overall great job and Good luck with your website!
Ethos, Pathos, Logos FTW!
I will talk a bit about how my website will make people feel, I will explain some of the elements that I chose to make my website my own style. Here below is a sample of my website.
SECTION A: As a writer!
I will attempt to integrate the ethos, pathos, and logos in order to give my website more spark so that it can attract the attention of the audience. by adding ethos, I will attempt to add credibility to some of the material that I talk about in class, I will mostly have many experiences about various assignments; so it is important to keep some of the details for the website the most professional as possible. By adding pathos, this characteristic will make the viewer experience a specific kind of emotion according to the elements used in the website. For example my website has many dark colors and abstract effects, this will make the viewer experience seriousness and shock, that is what I meant to do in my website. As for the logos, I intend in making the audience acquire common sense, it is not a good idea to keep the viewers wandering; so I might as well explain the content in as simple manner. the logic here does not expose the material to the point where the viewers could know what to expect next, I can use elements of surprise and keep the audience comprehending the details about each section of my website.
SECTION B: As a designer!
Simple things such as the elements of creating a website such as contrast, consistency, balance, grouping, and alignment; can make or break a website from simply make the viewers disengage and click on another website. To avoid this I will place my best efforts to adjust the characteristics of my website to fit these 5 principles in order to make my site more appealing, I will keep my text; but I will adjust the text on certain sections to give compliments to the sections of the webpage according to important information and other sub-categories. using the same style for headings throughout the website is preferable since only one theme should be used for a website in order to be unique, my website sticks to a theme; that is why some of the fonts included for most of the sections can be slightly different, but the same style. Any images or multimedia used on my website will be properly balanced to the point where the images are reasonably distant from each other, but also to the point were the audience can see a pattern to select from the various videos or images included in the site. I will group my content according to the relevance of what the viewer needs to search for, there will be sub-categories and different sections where information can be found based on each particular topic. my alignment for my website will work best with a vertical layout, since there is more detailed content rather than interactive multimedia website with a horizontal layout. the way I plan to incorporate ethos, pathos, and logos here will be the same as the first section, the only thing different will be the strategies for adjusting material in an artistic manner through out the website.

#Week 14: Thinking About Your Website
Section A:
Questions for Analysis on website #1&2:
1. The balance of “Trendlines Research was not proportionate within the images and the text (there was one big picture on the left side and then text all around “Aaron Marquez’s” website which had an equal distribution (each page had an equal amount of photos and text--not having one overpower the other).
2. The contrasts with “Trendlines Rseearch” is consistent with the text and the headings (given the heading is bolded; not different). “Aaron Marquez’s” website has a different style text and heading for each section that he explains.
3. “Trendlines Research” consistency doesn’t change much throughout the web page (font size and style is alike). “Aaron Marquez’s” website is pretty consistent as well with text style and font size through each of his pages that he presents.
4. The alignment and grouping of “Trendlines Research” seems to be all over the place. (there is no sections or tabs--each piece of information is difficult to find). “Aaron Marquez’s” alignment and grouping goes vertically and has everything tabbed and easy to locate.
5. “Trendlines Research” webpage is not effective, information is not sectioned and the hard to understand compared to “Aaron Marquez’s” webpage which states who he is and exactly what he works on.
(RWS Handbook shows exactly what the website assignment should look like).
Section B:
1. To make sure my website is balanced, I’ll make sure to have a an equal amount of pictures and text. (making sure that there isn’t too much text compared to photos).
2. The way to use contrast in my website is to make sure that body text is different compared to the sub headings or headings. In order for the viewer, to differentiate between headings and actual body paragraphs.
3. The places where I will keep the consistency is when I discuss the major assignments, the about me page..etc. I will make sure that certain things go in certain places instead of not having a certain flow and making the viewer confused.
4. The way I will use grouping and alignment to make my website more effective, is to make sure that everything is organized and placed in the spot that it should be in.
5. The colors that I will use for my website will be black or blue fonts. As far as backgrounds go, I use either a black backdrop, or pictures of the things that I’m majoring in (Nursing).
6. Besides making sure that each aspects of the website goes in the designated area and making sure the backgrounds and font colors aren’t too flashy, and headings, sub headings are different from the body texts...I will make sure that it is comprehensible for the viewer to understand and that it becomes an interesting website.
FINALLY FINISHED!!

Hey Victoria! I couldn’t agree more with you on the website of “Trendlines Research”, it was confusing at times and the owner of the website could have put some adjustments to make it more understandable and more professional. On the other hand, you explained how you were going to execute your website very well. You mentioned how you would keep it simple (as far as not using such flashy and disturbing color text) and organizing your webpage to make it understandable. You helped me get an idea as to what your planning to do for your website and how you’ll follow the guidelines in order to make sure the website is on point! Good luck on your website planning.
Thinking about my website
I will be using five principles of design such as contrast, consistency, balance, grouping and alignment to make sure my website gets a good grade.
Section A:
I will be analyzing this website http://trendlines.ca/ .
Questions for analysis:
1. Identify and describe the balance of the site.
The website is somewhat balanced because the text is very clear to read yet they used different colors in the text and everything is easily accessible. The colors used in this website are fairly well because they are not gloomy or flashy and certainly grab my attention.
2. How is contrast employed on the site?
The contrast on the site is okay but not the best due to the fact they used a light purple background for information given such as price components. The designer of this website could have done better by using other colors. The font size is small and readable.
3. Evaluate the site’s use of consistency.
The use of consistency is not consistent because they use various colors on the website making it hard for the audience to focus on just one thing.
4. Describe the site’s utilization of alignment and grouping.
Alignment of this site is not good because most of the text is spread out with different templates and the grouping of images and numbers in the graph are not at all consistent and are very confusing.
5. Based on your analysis of the site in terms of the principles of design, describe the effectiveness of the site.
Based on my analysis of the site in terms of the principles of design, the effectiveness of the site is very weak and gives me an idea of what not to do in my site such as using different colored text and have the information scattered everywhere.
For the next website, http://www.aaronxmarquez.com/
1. Identify and describe the balance of the site.
The balance of this site is excellent because the images and text correlate with each other making it easy to understand.
2. How is contrast employed on the site?
The contrast of this website is clean and very organized. The format used for this website is appropriate and the designer used a great color of background because everything is easy to read and access.
3. Evaluate the site’s use of consistency.
The consistency of this site is great because the text used in this site was not too small and I was able to read everything not to mention the nice colors he used in this website.
4. Describe the site’s utilization of alignment and grouping.
The alignment and grouping of this website was very good because everything was accessible and easy to follow through.
5. Based on your analysis of the site in terms of the principles of design, describe the effectiveness of the site.
Based on my analysis of the site in terms of the principles of design, the effectiveness of this site is very good. It showed me how clean and simple my website should be. This gives me an idea of what my website should look like.
Section B: Implications for my own design
1. What will you have to do to ensure that your website is balanced?
I will have to use the same size of images I will be displaying on my website as well as using same format of text. Also I will make sure there is not too much on the site because that will throw off the balance.
2. How will you use contrast on your website?
I will use the contrast on my website such as maintaining the same theme and using same colored text and format so that it looks organized.
3. Where will you employ consistency on your website?
I will employ consistency on my website by maintaining the same layout on every page
4. How can you use alignment and grouping to make your website more effective?
I can use alignment and grouping to make my website more effective because it will make it look very organized and to the point. Readers will have easy access to pages.
5. What colors will you use for your website? Why?
Colors I will use for my website are still undecided but I will make sure not to use the blinding yellow with pink text. I will use colors such as grey or beige or something along those lines to keep it simple.
6. How else can you ensure that your website is well-designed?
I will ensure my website is well-designed by following the website supplemental guidelines and asking the professor any questions regarding the website.
Now I can start building my own site!

#Week 13: Wrapping Up The Film-Creating a Plan of Action
A. What days and times will you commit to the project?
The days that I will commit to the project are when I am not in school and I have free time (either on my hour breaks between classes or when I’m off of school). I will be using my time wisely when it comes to this project, and I will not waste anytime. I will dedicate my time to do my part as best as I can.
B. What days/times are you working as a group and when will you work alone?
As a group, we started off meeting Fridays around 10a.m. on the second floor of the library. We have messaged each other throughout the weeks, making sure we are collaborating the ideas correctly and gathering the information correctly. Throughout these next weeks we are planning on meeting Mondays and Wednesdays to start piecing together the video and as stated in part A, during the available time that I have I will be working on certain parts of the project.
C. Specifically, what aspect of the project will you address on each of those days?
The aspects that we will be covering during the days we meet is finalizing the video and putting all of our research together exactly where it fits. We will gather every piece of information that is needed and make sure that it’s detailed and relevant to the issue. We will also be working on the music that we will be using throughout the video and looking for great pictures to use as well. Other than that, as a group we are good to go and making sure we meet every requirement given.
D. Specifically, what will you do to complete those aspects of the project?
The things that I will be doing to complete the project, is doing my part and dedicating the time that I have available to conduct individual research. I will do my best to collaborate with my team and share any ideas that we might be able to use.
E. What specific aspects of the assignments are you most concerned about? What can you do to address those concerns?
The aspects that I’m concerned about would be the ability to make sure that each idea and supporting evidence we present isn’t broad, but narrowed and correlates to the message my group is trying to get across. Another concern is not having enough detailed information or going in depth for each point we are covering. We could fix this, by making sure the information that is used is detailed and meets the professor’s feedback.
F. What specific aspects of the assignment are you most comfortable with? Why?
I am most comfortable with the collaboration of ideas for this video project, only because I feel like as a team, we have enough good and liable explanations to include in our video. The interviewees that were interviewed gave each of us excellent answers and we can use them in our video. Each of us brought good ideas to the table and we just need to put them were they fit best in the puzzle.

Hey there! Your timeline was well written and I was able to grasp every aspect you explained regarding the project. The information that we have discussed and talked about during the times that we have met, are relevant and are good points to be addressed during the video. After receiving the feedback from our professor in the outline, we can fix those minor things and make each point clearer and detailed in order for the project to come out great! Working together as a team will benefit us and make the job get done faster as long as we all do our parts to get the job done. I can’t wait to see how the video comes out, and I hope we meet all the requirements.
WEEK 13 !
Time to for action!
A. I will commit to the group project when I don’t have class. Which means I will be working on this Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. I also work, so I would have to manage my time wisely to handle this project the right way.
B. Our group has been getting together during Friday mornings. We have been planning to meet Monday or Tuesday mornings as well to make improvements if any in our projects as needed. I will be working alone when I have no class or have work which are the times provided in letter A.
C. A specific aspect of the project I want to focus on will be creating the movie/ video itself. Providing my part of the information will be required, however I would like to put most of my time in the process if making the video.
D. I would like to attend another imovie workshop to be able to enhance my ability to work with the program. This will benefit me in many ways when putting in work with the video itself.
E. I am concerned about how effectively we will be able to gather all our information to put it together in the video we will be making. My group and I could manage this problem by getting together and working things out right there and then instead of waiting last minute. Coordination will be key.
F. I am most comfortable with our team work. This is the base of our project. We are all combining our projects together to make a general video to bring awareness and change into our young society.

#Week 12: Building a Production Team
Topic: Ethnicity Diversity in the Medical Field
Purpose: Persuade students and medical professions in different backgrounds to enter the medical field and work in different ethnicity environments to achieve diversity.
Audience: Students going into the nursing field (college age people) and those pursuing a degree in the medical/healthcare field.
Solution: To encourage students to volunteer in the medical field for new experiences outside of their comfort zone.
Part 2: Main focus is Audience
Ethos: According to Dr. Carlos Gutierrez, he states that it’s important for nurses to be comfortable with their working atmosphere especially when there are diverse patients in the area. --”Diversity in the nursing field can achieve cultural competence by helping us come together to work with different cultures encountered in the workplace”.
-->”It is essential to create an academic environment that facilitates intellectual curiosity and respect for diverse viewpoints, whether cultural, racial or gender” (McGraw & Epeneter).
-->We have to have a workforce that mirrors the different diverse communities to give equal opportunity” (NMNA 2015).
youtube
(this video discusses a nurse’s experience as they enter a diverse atmosphere and some insight on the diversity issues in the field of nursing).
Pathos: Given the audience that is being targeted, the main aim is to emphasize the importance of those going into the medical field and help them learn that having diverse experience with others does help them when entering any field.
Through the use of targeting this specific audience, students will be able to understand that it’s not a bad idea to “get your feet wet” in working in a diverse community with different ethnic nurses, doctors and patients.
Ethos: Students need to be advised that interacting with diverse patients can change the atmosphere of the workforce and benefit the other nurses present, since they have some experience in working in a culturally different area.
Dr. Gutierrez mentions that there needs to be more diversity in any area of the medical field and encourages other students who are going into nursing or entering the medical field to engage in diverse situations.
-->There will be more statistics added to the information being shown as more data is collected throughout the research.
Solution: The solution is to encourage students to volunteer at hospitals, clinics, or offices and have them learn from different diverse nurses, along with deal with different cultural patients in order for them to gain a higher level of knowledge.

Hey there! I figured I would just respond to someone in my group since we all discussed the different points in this proposal. Viewing your two posts on topic and purpose, I thought that you did a great job in executing each point. Everything was put in an organized matter, and I was able to understand each explanation that you put. The videos that you used for either of these posts were able to connect well with what you were saying. Each specific video explained the right amount of information needed to get the message across. Overall, I think you did well with this assignment and I can’t wait to see the final product.
Ethnicity Diversity in the Medical Field.
A.) Topic: Ethnicity Diversity in the Medical Field.
B.)Purpose: We are in favor of increasing and making the medical field a better diverse workplace.

Hi there! I thought that your reflecting section was well written! You touched base on exactly what you learned throughout the essays and assignments that you have done. You were able to relate to other assignments in other classes in which you have implemented the research and writing aspects. The future profession that you are going for to be a social worker, is a really good job to go for and look into. It’s really cool that you are able to volunteer; even though you have to be 21...but either way volunteering for your future profession is always a great way to go! The writing was clear and easy to follow. I wish you the best of luck as you continue your education.
Week 11: Reflecting on our research skills
1.WHAT:
I have learned so much there past two months. My semester topic is Diversity in Social work. Diversity including ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, and skills needed to be successful. I have learned that Social Work is a growing field and its courses in college are constantly changing because of diversity itself!! By doing my Literature Review I was able to look more into diversity and what were their methods used to train future social workers. Conducting my primary research was pretty nerve wrecking but I survived!! Professor Eva Moya was such a sweetheart and she made me super exited for the future. Researching at the academic level so far has been a great challenge for me, but I am leaning so much every week and it makes me very proud of myself.
2. SO WHAT:
All that I am learning in this course is very important because research must be done almost everywhere! Maybe different research, shorter research or longer research but it is still similar to the genre analysis and literature review. For example, I had to write a research paper for my politics class on the current election. I was able to learn abut the individuals running for certain position and I learned the importance of research. I learned what these people what to do , what they are passionate about and I even learned who they are as a family member. It made me really exited to vote. I will be working in a professional environment in a few years, and what better way to advocate for diversity and changes when I am able to prove my ideas through research.
3. NOW WHAT:
Now its time to make changes. I now have knowledge of the importance of diverse social workers, yet Hispanics aren’t even half of the employees in the social work industry!! I am sure I am not the only one who thinks this way and I can look into it and raise awareness of the importance of the health of all of our minorities. I can even volunteer and further my research when I turn 21 ( because you have to be 21 to volunteer with social workers), by volunteering I can even notice other issues and research about it to make a difference.

#Week 11: Reflecting On My Research Skills
To start off, I have to reflect on my skills that have developed throughout the semester and provide detailed responses concerning research, my profession, and my knowledge.
WHAT Section: The nursing field happens to be a very competitive field, that requires you to achieve great excellence. Being able to conduct research on the “Diversity of Hispanics in Nursing” helped me to gain insight on the issues at hand. Only knowing the surface level of issues that may go on in the field, I was unaware of how much Hispanics and other minorities aren’t being given a fair advantage. These people are having difficult times making it into nursing programs or receiving jobs due to their ethnicity. Coordinating primary research (interview) helped me expand my social compass; as far as knowing a greater number of doctors/researchers. The literature review also helped me to expand my knowledge and learn from different perspectives. Being able to research at this level, helped me gain insight on things that I thought I never saw doing and it opened many doors to opportunities.
SO WHAT Section: The importance of what I am learning in this course is highly emphasized, because we are likely to use the components (rhetorical appeals, scholarly perspectives, primary research) we used to write an essay, analysis, or review when we hit the classes that correspond to our major. As a future graduate being able to explore the different aspects of my college education opens a whole new perspective and helps me in a sense to become more prepared for what’s to come. As a future professional, I am able to back up my knowledge with other information that I may have encountered and have more insight on what to expect, due to what I learn in previous classes. As I get closer to becoming a nurse, I will be able to make a change through knowing all this research/information.
NOW WHAT Section: Now that I have more than enough knowledge based on the assignments that I have done and all the research I have conducted, I am able to apply what I know when I start to work. I am aware of the issues that Hispanic nurses might face and I can definitely figure what’s to come. As I continue to further my education later on in life, I can implement the changes if not any have been made still. I plan to make a difference in the field of nursing in order to help other Hispanic and minority nurses have a fair advantage. Change is good and can have an influence on the live’s of others.

#Week 10: Methods & Interview Material
Here are a few little guidelines and pointers to help you out when writing your method or interview section on your essay. It can be a time consuming and hard task, but following this helpful timeline can make the job a whole lot easier.
So let’s begin...Guidelines for this peculiar subject can be found on blackboard on the side tab that reads “Weekly Content”.
Then you go to “Week 10″ and click on “Literature Guidelines”.
Once you clicked on the “Literature Guidelines”-->You’ll find the information posted below on the “Methods Section”.
Here are the “Interview Material/ Primary Source”.
More information regarding the interview.. can be found on Blackboard--> you click on “Weekly Content” then go go under “Week 9″ to locate the “Interview Material Tab”.
After clicking the “Interview Material” tab, you’ll be able to locate these items for conducting the interview.
There is also more information found on the RWS ebook that can be found on one of the blackboard tabs.
By clicking on that tab, you can just log in to your ebook and then on pages 223-225 is where you can find information regarding the “Interview Material”.
Then on pages 227-228 is information regarding the “Methods”. This is an overlook of how your “Method Section” should look.
If that didn’t really clarify enough to make it understandable here is a video that might help on conducting a proper interview.
youtube
I hope these steps helped in creating your interview and method section for your Literature Review Paper and that you were able to understand the concept a little bit better.

Hi there! I really found your how to make a Cover page, Abstract, and References timeline extremely helpful. The organization of the step by step instructions was clear and easy to follow. The two videos that you picked for this assignment happened to be a good choice. The videos were helpful, in a sense that it gives the viewer visuals on how the Abstract, Cover page and References should look. I think you did an excellent job executing this assignment and making sure it was clear for your fellow viewers.
Abstract, Cover Page & References
Don’t know where you can find information on how to create a Abstract, Cover Page and references……
Well follow these steps and it will help guide you!
Let’s Begin!!!
First go into blackboard and go to weekly content. Click on the folder “Literature Review Supplement Guidelines.”

#Week 9: Interview Preparation
Beginning the preparation process of completing an interview timeline is the the start of feeling all the nerves hitting you at once...not mentally ready for this interview, but you have to do what you have to do. So let’s begin the timeline package.
To begin, I read the instructions that my professor told us to follow and first thing is first I need to show proof that I emailed Dr. Hennessey.
Step 2: Next, I downloaded the Interview Release Form and then saved it to my Dropbox.
Step 3: Next I began to document my interview questions along with the quote that follow with it. Here they are below.
Step 4: After documenting my interview questions, I can then download and save to Dropbox the Interview Confirmation.
Step 5: Then, I need to post a picture of the materials that I will be using when I go to interview my candidate. I will be taking a a notebook, pen, and my cell phone to record the audio and a camcorder just in case to use just for visual recording (if interviewee allows).

I am finally finished and my timeline of events is completed! I am feeling so nervous for my interview...but I can do this!!

Hey there! You did a great job on your interview checklist. The way you organized each step was really clear and you also followed the instructions correctly. I was looking at your questions and it was a little difficult to read, since it was a little fuzzy/blurry. From what I was able to read from the questions, you’re off to a great start and are prepared for the interview. I’m super nervous too waiting for a reply and then interviewing my scholar, but seeing your timeline and the well-executed questions that you had..you’re going to do great!
Documenting my interview preparation
Now that I have all the weight on my shoulders from preparing for my interview, I might as well show you the procedures that I will use to get to this interview off to good start. First of all, I will show you how I will get connected to my chosen scholar, and that will be by composing and sending an email.
Now the next step is downloading, printing, and completing an interview release form, this is important to consider since the form states specific procedures and agreements. I will also place some attachments on the email with the access to the articles, the research questions, and the interview release form so that the professional scholar could be ready as well.
Next step is to ensure that I have efficient and effective research questions ready to provide for my professional scholar, and to do this was to revise the original questions to fit properly to the assignment; not double-barreled nor bias but neutral.
Next step follows up on the original email, now this step is to receive your response and reply with another email that has a special confirmation format.
Last but not least, I will show you the kind of equipment I am going to use to capture this interview in depth. here are some essentials such as a recorder, a notebook, and hopefully a camera that I can use for capturing video. I do not have a camera just yet, but I can probably get my hands on one at the library.

Now the only thing left is to be ready for this interview, I’m hope that I am ready to get faced with the huge avalanche of answers that I carefully will need to analyze. Literature review got me like:

Hello there! After reading through your sources and then the interview questions, I felt lie you hit every point that you needed to hit. Each question that you asked did follow really well with your source and it made perfect sense. Each interview question is specific but isn’t to the point where its biased, double-barrled, or confusing. You did an excellent job in showcasing your questions. Your topic that your evaluating for the semester is a really good topic! I hope to hear more from you, regarding your topic choice. You did a really good job and you’re already prepared for the interview!
Creating Interview Questions from my Research Questions

After creating these interview questions from my original research questions I can’t feel anything else but excited to hear what each of my interviewers have to say about my topic. Also, after conducting these pending interviews, I will have more sources before I complete my twelve sources I have to accumulate before the end of the semester!
