I also want to add that after re-reading this comic (you and I need to divorce this nasty horse comic, god!) I want to say that page 33 irks me a lot thanks to all the talk about DICKtor.

He's a good guy...??? Really...?? This bitch admitted to Dandy on page 29 that he knows about the prophecy, sees Dandy getting scared (because of the trauma) and then proceeds to tell her in page 33 that she will be fine here and she can have a child and (the part that irks me) he says it DOESNT have to be HIS...

If you take this interaction as surface level; then yes, he is being good by giving Dandy freedom of choice... But given the fact that he knows about the "prophecy" and then hears how she YEARNS so much for a child to then say that she can have one and hinting at her that it doesnt have to be his it's disgusting and kinda manipulative IMO. Even since I saw that page and Dandy accepted I was so angry, because Dandy clearly needed more time and healing before having a child with the first dude that gave her some decent treatment. Wow... I wonder if this is how Dyktor got all the other mares.

"Dont worry, I'll treat you well, so you can have babies with me if you want. Wink wink!"

I know this was not probably Sleepy's intention with Dyktor, but for me this is why authors should never rush a romance like this.

It totally feels manipulative, holy shit. He's like the kind of male left politician who's supportive of women as long as they let him touch a boob when he's got them cornered.

And yes, it wasn't Sleepy's intention, but that's what happens when you speedrun a complicated story.

This is why Dyktor bothers me so much, honestly, he completely butchers Dandy's time to process her trauma. She was almost raped by her father, ran away from her family and home and found out that her only desire will be destroyed because God says it. She needs time to rest and breathe, to talk about what happened to her with mares that don't have power over her (unlike Dyktor).

But no, she has to marry Dyktor immediately, he's the good guy, because he's not a rapist, and Dandy should marry him, because he saved her from her father and unlike him, he's not a rapist, so Dandy should- you get the idea.

Could you imagine if I Didn't Know went in that direction?

Little Miss is exiled from her church, finds a random tom cat and he decides not to soothe her religious trauma so she stays with him. They get married and have kittens. And then her husband dies and she gets raped. Again.

How is he not an abusive opportunist? And remember that Dandy is much younger than Dyktor for the religion to have been told to her by her mother. So she's in a similar position that Little Miss was in.

I know I said I wouldn't compare TDS with it's contemporaries, but I'm puzzled as to how Songdogx wrote a good protagonist dealing with SA and religious trauma, is extremely hostile towards anyone who denies the damage done to her and yet... Didn't feel the need to warn Sleepy about the terrible way she was dealing with a similar story? And Sleepy didn't see how IDK took it's time to develop Little Miss's trauma?

I haven't read TDS, and I never will, even if I had free time. But in a nutshell, this comic is Dawn of the Clan, but with horses in a nutshell?

Assuming you're talking about Warrior Cats, I haven't read it, so I'm not sure.

The only thing I know about DOTC is that the male protagonists are mean as fuck and Bumble's horrid situation, wich I can sort of relate to S'mile? Both being innocent women who were treated like shit both by the characters and the authors for prejudiced reasons, Bumble for being fat and S'mile for being arrogant.

I know that one of the main issues with TDS (imo) is the bad passing and focus on certain scenes/topics that can drag on for a little to long.

I mean; 139 pages so far (not in the patreon and never will) and the story not only feels rushed but also doesn't make many sense. They only "good" thing I thought it was cool were the flashback scenes of Caly and Dyktor's past as the tension built up to kill the latter. Like that alone is a good scene, but for me the cause of Dyktor's death felt so... weak.

Caly knows and should've remembered that Dyktor knows he is full of bullshit and should've tried to manipulate his brother into letting Dandy go rather than using the Dragon excuse. Dyktor has shown that anytime Dandy speaks of the Dragon or Caly talks about it, he dismisses it. So why pretend infront of your brother? Why not admit you "like" Dandy?? This is kinda fucked up, but this is a way I would've made that scene:

Caly comes to convince Dandy to leave the herd using the Dragon, Dyktor interrupts like in the comic and dismissed Dandy and Pierces. When talking, Dyktor demands Caly to explain why he is so obsessed with Dandy and to leave her be because she is uncomfortable. Caly hesitates for a moment, weighting his options, knows that Dyktor knows he is full of shit, he admit that he "likes/loves" Dandy and wants her to join in his cult. Dyktor refuses because he loves Dandy. Caly tries to manipulate brother into leaving Dandy for him and convince her to leave. They have a small argument and Dyktor prohibits Caly to talk to Dandy and his daughter again.

BOOM! Now Caly has a good reason to be a pissy baby and kill his beloved brother because he didn't gave him what he wanted. Not only it would make Dyktor be more "aware" that his brother is a nasty piece of shit but he also puts Dandy and Pierces above Caly, which he hates because Caly gives me the vibes of wanting to be adored by all like a god.

But all we got was a very soft argument of Dyktor shouting "I was there!!" and then cut to flashback and then Caly gets the wire. I've never seen Dyktor worried about his "beloved" brother, not even once, specially after their fights... Like, dude, if I see a sibling of mine obsessing with my partner constantly after a couple warnings, I would be on high alert. Eh... but what do I know? TDS is a masterpiece or so many people think.

I like your AU, anon, but wouldn't an infatuated Caly try to speak to Dandy directly?

Tell Crisis the dragon wishes to deliver a message only to her ears, tell Dandy that she's cursed and needs to go with him to get "purified"... And that's it. You have her at your mercy, seeing how passive Dandy is. Caly could even use a storm to convince Crisis that she's cursed and needs to leave immediately.

And if you find Dyktor on the way, just tell him you're going with her on a travel, maybe even manipulate Dandy to keep her mouth shut, "you wouldn't want people to know you're cursed, right?".

If I were trying to court a girl, the last thing I would want is for my brother, who knows I'm full of shit, to be involved.

I stopped reading dragon slayer months ago, just happened to see the hiatus post when I logged back in on comicfury and had a feeling there was some weird shit going on over on Tumblr. It's honestly concerning how much time some of y'all sink into hating on a shitty webcomic. Normal people laugh or move on to doing enjoyable things. Yeesh.

I don't know where you get that I'm power tripping, when I'm a loser troll running a niche blog with less than forty followers VS a versed comic author with more than a thousand fans willing to defend her with tooth and nail. Of course I know Sleepy could potentially find this blog, I'm stupid, but not that much. And you know what she should do, if she doesn't want to see my shit? Block it. That's it. She can block her fans when they disagree slightly over TDS, blocking me is no big deal. And even then, not all of my posts are completely inflammatory.

But I can't lie to you and tell you I haven't spent a lot of time here. I'm an obsessive person, when I have a bone, I get all the marrow out. And I bit this bait like a tigerfish.

I like ranting about terrible media. I enjoy verbally punching the shit of "good" characters that in reality are pieces of trash, like Dyktor. I howl in dismay when I find another "strong" female character who's completely shaped by the male gaze, like Pierces. And I completely lose my shit when an author spits nonsense about consent being "dubious" and trying to deny rape.

I understand it if you find it creepy, to be honest, and you're free to have a low opinion on me. But it's also very funny how you talk about "normal" people, as if you aren't on Tumblr, of all places.

Why do you act like you hate Sleepy personally?

"Hate" is a strong word, I don't hate her. It's the way I speak and text, it's nothing personal. But I can see how it pretty much looks that way.

I'm frustrated that she's unable to see the mistakes she has made and how she's been turning a blind eye on people who have approached kindly to explain why TDS isn't respectful towards victims of SA and others.

I don't care how asexual or tokophobic or prehistoric you are, if you make a comment like "hE bIt tHe buTt!" while the equivalent of a young girl is running away from her father who wants to rape her, and you realize you fucked up (and I really hope she did on her own, and not because her fans where understandably shocked), you own up to it and apologize like a grown up. You don't get to delete your words and block commenters on Deviantart while saying "oh people are complaining a lot about trigger warnings, but not you, you're nice". Then you're sweeping the problem under the rug. Like a child. You're proving that you haven't got the maturity to post a story about SA if you can't handle any backlash.

And this is just one problem of many I have. Again, not enough to hate Sleepy as a person, but sufficient for me to rant crudely about it.

So, in the only QnA of TDS, people asked Dyktor why he doesnt tell Dandy that Caly is a liar and the dragon doesnt exist. Reminding everyone that Dyktor is a nice guy that let his mares come and go as they please and strongly beliefs that everyone should be happy with their life choices and he would never force anyone to stay;

He is scared that Dandy would hate him for being a heretic or that she would destroy her for breaking the illusion of the dragon for her. He is scared she might leave with Pierces. So he keeps the info to himself to keep Dandy with him. Wow... what a nice dude.

I get it from the point that he loves her and is happy with her and their foal, but idk man... very contraDYKTORy of him (heh) to think like that when he clearly sees how this prophecy has Dandy traumatized for life.

To me, this is the nail in the coffin for DandyXDyktor. It might be more interesting with this conflict, but still, they aren't a healthy relationship if this is going on, all thanks to this coward of a stallion.

I understand his point of being afraid she might leave and put herself in more danger but like... Dude. You had a foal with her. If you were so worried about her, you wouldn't have given her a baby so if she leaves, it's her AND the foal, man. Crisis could sweep in and kill Pierces in one hit if he found them wandering, and Dandy's faith would be broken regardless, along with her heart. Did you really had to lie to her AND get her pregnant?

Dyktor's situation is just so uncomfortable to read. He saw his brother harrass his favu wife a couple of times. He knew what the dragon said about Dandy's first child was big bullshit and yet he didn't do anything!! He knew his brother made it up and didn't think about kicking his ass and telling Dandy. He chose his r*pist brother over his wife and kid

Caly and Jimmy are misogynyst pieces of scum responsible for all the conflict in their story. They're almost one dimensional villains only made to be hated.

And both Dyktor and Curly let their male brother/best friend go wild harassing women without punishment, paid a good price by being fried alive and yet they're still woobified by part of their fandom (and in Dyk's case, author). Disgusting, honestly.

I'm glad Dyktor is dead and eaten by the crows, tho, the less we see him, the better. Also, food for the scavengers, yum!

ehhh i think its only natural for people to talk about other comics and their creators since the animal webcomic community world is pretty small and consequently will have some overlap in discussion. totally fair if you want to filter the off topic stuff but i have enjoyed reading discussion on more webcomics. its a little tempting to make my own blog about it

I enjoy talking about other webcomics, don't get me wrong, but it becomes a bit tiring when all the ask comes down to "look at this terrible comic and it's horrible author!".

I know there's worse shit than TDS out there. I'm very aware that some comics are nothing but the author's horrifying fantasies written unironically. I've read multiple comics made by people hundreds of times worse than Sleepy, to the point where direct comparison would be a grievous insult to her. I'm just not interested in reading them all just to answer an ask in a more profound way, sorry. I'm already married to TDS.

I brought up IHS because people asked me about it. And because I think it's nice.

If you want to make your own blog, go ahead, but do me a favor. If you make critics, don't touch comics made by kids and teens, alright? Let them enjoy making "bad" comics. Critiques at that age aren't taken very well and unless it's something to worry about, it's better to leave them alone, or handle it privately if it's very serious.

I don't need her to listen to me, I need her to listen to someone who doesn't coddle her like a five year old kid. Someone who tells her the truth without sugarcoating the gravity of her actions.

In the middle of all her yes men vomit, there's at least three comments who actually gave her constructive criticism. If she reads them and acts upon it, I'll be satisfied.

Sleepy will never listen to me as long as I run this "troll" blog and that's fine.

As angry as I can get from time to time, as much as I might tell her to fuck off, I don't wish to break her spirits. I want her to grow up. I want her to realize that she has fucked up this badly and that she can get up again.

In the "a year of comics summary" the note in the end says "I promise things will get better for Dandy soon". That was in december and a few pages ago she got raped. Do not lie to your audience

"Getting better" meaning she got a traditional nuclear family with a rapist enabler douchebag, got pregnant, became mother, husband died and now she's getting raped because of her douchebag spouse and to protect her daughter. Great life, at this point I would have gone to fight mountain lions for sport, it's less painful than Dandy's life so far.

And her "time to fight" was to surprise kick a pregnant woman. How empowering, how feminist, the mother character is defending her daughter by making a woman go into labor early with a kick in the head.

Whenever I hear somebody say "hey, using this trope that is used everywhere is lazy and you shouldn't do it!" with any ounce of seriousness, I die a little inside. It's the kind of "bad writing advice" you would find being torn apart by professionals. bc why is the trope used in a lot of shows exactly, anon? bc it's popular and appeals to audiences. 🙄

It reminds me of that time Disney was obsessed with "subverting expectations", but didn't realize that you have to know a trope very well to subvert it properly.
