I didn't even get to university; and actually failed out of sixth form college (in the UK that's basically where you go between secondary school and university, it's non-compulsory but still free).

For a couple of years I worked retail, but for the last 18 years or so I've worked as a cleaner. I don't love my job, but it is easy to do and it (just barely) pays my bills, so there is that.

The thing is, I could have buckled down in school and gotten better grades and this probably has a lot to do with still un-diagnosed mental health issues (probably ADHD, possibly Autism), but the fact is, I didn't do that, and that is at least partially why I am where I am.

I don't often think about the roads I didn't take, because I am here, and I didn't take those roads, and nothing I can do right now would get me to those alternate realities. And honestly if I went and did the work now and got into the types of jobs I wanted when I was much younger, I'd probably be much better at the job now, because I'm a much more complete person today than I was 20 years ago.

You claim you got lucky; and yes, to certain extent, you did get lucky. But luck has nothing to do with your continued platform. That requires graft, and not an insignificant amount of it. Just because you work in a highly visible and exclusive club, doesn't change the fact that you're working in that club. Don't denigrate your hard work simply because you happened to get lucky. You are where you are in all ways because of the effort you have put in, and that is far from a failure.

I don't even actually have a degree.... Three years of software engineering, three years of game design, two internships, a ton of student debt, and no degree to show for any of it.... I failed my classes and decided to drop out rather than accrue even more debt, and I ended up becoming a streamer.... Not that I really *wanted* to work in the tech industry or anything, I mean we all know the tech industry sucks, but it's hard not to feel like a failure about it.
