As Penelope finished working on her project for the day and was packing up her things to leave, Payton texted her. Confirming she was still at the library, he walked up to the study room so the two of them could walk home together.

It wasn't a long walk from the library to the house (as they lived right off campus), but Penelope was grateful that Payton would wait for her--even if she teased him about it.

Typically, Wednesdays and Fridays were Penelope’s study days. After her 8 am class, she would spend the next couple hours in Darby’s Den, eating a small breakfast while she worked on some of her assignments–mainly readings.

After going to her second class at 11:30, she would head to the library to hunker down and work on her bigger assignments. She worked until 3:30, putting her earbuds in and immersing herself in her studies. On Fridays, she’d be lucky; most students didn’t want to spend their free time after classes at the library when they could be out partying and drinking instead. That means she had a pretty solid guarantee of claiming one of the coveted study rooms for herself.

While they ate their breakfasts, Penelope and Eva discussed Eva's latest Simder date.

Eva met with a guy on Sunday for brunch. Everything was going well until he said something that rubbed her the wrong way. Using a totally real essay that she needed to write as an excuse to end the date, she left. She's been ignoring him ever since under the guise of studying, but he hasn't seemed to get the hint.

Though they both laughed at her joke, Penelope was serious about what she said. Eva's track record with online dating was not great, and the way she handled "breaking it off" (if you can even call it that) wasn't much better.

Penelope was happy that her sophomore year was already nearing its end. She needed a break from all the assignments and studying on her agenda, so right now, even a simple invitation to a campus breakfast sounded like heaven.

To make up for her lack of extra-curricular activities since she left the sorority, she decided to join the university's debate team. After a few meetings and a couple of mock debates, the time had come for Penelope's first real and publically judged debate. She was versing Eva Capricciosa, one of the best debaters on the team; she was nervous.

Her nerves got the best of her, and she utterly bombed it. After the winner was announced, Penelope politely and kindly shook Eva's hand out of sportsmanship. Eva responded with a hug, encouragement, and advice for Penelope about debating and public speaking.

Penelope responded with a sudden outburst of laughter--surprising both of them. She said that all she could think about while at the podium was how this was not meant for her, but she really appreciated Eva's kindness. They made plans to get lunch between classes during the week and soon found themselves becoming close friends!

Penelope felt like she spent most of her time doing her homework and assignments for her classes. Majoring in communications was not an easy task, but she was determined to do her best.

When she did have time for fun outside of her studies, she was either at a party on the weekend...

or going on a date with Payton.

Penelope enjoyed the college life she was living. She had freedom paired with expectation; she could do most of what she wanted (mainly socializing), but she was still expected to do well in her classes. There was a balance of routine and leisure—just what she needed to keep herself in check and move forward.

The first set of payments for her sophomore year's tuition came through, and, as much as it pained her, she had to leave the Zeta Nu Zeta sorority behind. Penelope could no longer afford to be in the chapter.

With the academic year already started, Payton offered for her to move in with him at his off-campus house instead of struggling with the housing office to find a placement last minute. Penelope agreed, and his landlord allowed her to move into his room for half the rent (which was a lot less than paying ZNZ!). She now lived with Payton and his roommate, Mitchell Kalani.

Some of UBrite's soccer players celebrate their most recent win.

MANNY SPARACINO, UBrite freshman (psychology major)

Manny is a really big soccer fan and always has been. He's been on a soccer team every year since he began elementary school. As much as he loves the sport, he never saw himself making it professionally, so he is planning on becoming a therapist (who plays recreational soccer).

SAWYER MAHONEY, UBrite freshman (photography major)

Sawyer played on his high school's soccer team, so he figured he would join the team in college, too. However, he's not really putting effort into the game and supporting his teammates. He also chose photography as his major, but he's not really feeling that career path anymore. He's unsure about what he's going to do going forward...

ROLAND MITCHELL, UBrite sophomore (athletic scholarship)

Roland was the star of his high school's soccer team. He was scouted by multiple colleges, but he ultimately chose to attend the University of Britechester. He is proud to be attending UBrite, and he is passionate about his future career in the world of sports. He believes that he will be able to make it professionally (and hopefully onto his favorite team!).

AUBREE STALEY, UBrite junior (biology major, athletic minor)

Aubree is studying to become a sports physician. As part of her program at UBrite, she is required to join one of the sports offered on campus; she chose to join the soccer team. She originally didn't care about what sport she focused on, but she's really beginning to enjoy soccer!

ELLIOTT WHITTEN, UBrite junior (communications major, digital focus)

Elliott only joined the soccer team to force himself to maintain physical activity while in college. He's studying to become a radio operator, something he gained interest in as a child watching his grandfather repair antique radios. Since radio is mostly online nowadays, he has to shift his focus to the digital world of radio communications.

JIMMIE ARCE, UBrite junior (computer science major, programming minor)

Jimmie is studying to become a video game designer; he wants to make one of the world's best-selling franchises! He has ideas, he just needs to learn how to program them into existence. On the team, he has earned the nickname "Jack Shit," after his coach mispronounced his last name as "arse" instead of "arc" during tryouts. Opponents have misinterpreted this nickname to mean that Jimmie is a bad player, but they soon learn their mistake once he scores against them repeatedly.

KAYDEN BOWEN, UBrite senior (athletic scholarship)

Kayden is studying at UBrite solely because they gave him a full-ride athletic scholarship. He does the bare minimum for his classes and mostly spends his time having fun. He is currently seeing Kinley Harding, but who knows how long it'll be before he gets bored and searches for something new and exciting.

PAYTON JOHNS, UBrite senior (performing arts major, athletic scholarship)

Payton received a minor athletic scholarship when he applied to UBrite, forcing him to join the university's soccer team in order to maintain it. He is majoring in drama as he hopes to become a stunt double. He hopes that his sports skills and agility will help him stand out in his field.

I am finally returning to my Singleton save file after two whole years!!! We are picking back up with Penelope Purgton, a freshman at the University of Britechester. Keep reading below the cut to see how her first year of college went!

Penelope's first year at college had just begun, and she had already fallen into a routine: wake up at 8, go for a quick run, have breakfast and get ready for class, grab a to-go coffee while she waited outside the building, take notes, go home, do any classwork assigned, hang out with friends. Penelope's schedule seemed morning-heavy, but she wouldn't have it any other way.

She attempted to join the Spirit Corps but I, me found it too boring and repetitive. Instead, and as expected, she rushed the sorority of Zeta Nu Zeta, one of the Greek houses on campus.

Penelope met many people through the sorority's events and countless house parties during the first half of the semester; some of them friendly and nice, others... easily forgettable and unlikeable.

There was someone who she hit it off with more than others. Payton Johns was a freshman at UBrite, too. He was majoring in drama and was part of the soccer team as per his scholarship conditions. That's actually how they met; one of Penelope's sorority sisters was also on the soccer team. At one party, she invited the whole team over and introduced Payton to Penelope.

As the first semester neared its end, and the weather got colder, everyone was invited to a bonfire at one of the old, abandoned buildings right off the campus grounds. They ended up cuddling by the unlit bonfire. 🥹

The two continued throughout the year to talk and flirt. On the last day before people started leaving campus to go back home for summer break, the sorority house had one last party to throw. To Penelope's surprise, Payton asked her to be his girlfriend! They would call and text each other for the entirety of their break.

Once she got home, unpacked her things, hugged her mother, and ate some homemade meals, she immediately carved out time to spend with her younger sister, Eve. Eve spent most of their time together hitting her with question after question about college life.

And even though she had only been gone for a few months, her mother and sister adopted a new cat, Budge!
