This article talks about how lawn care fertilizers effect the Earth. The fertilizers runoff into our lake, river, and other body of waters which can harm the ecosystem and habitats. The nutrients from the fertilizer cause algae blooms and when the algae blooms die, the remove all the oxygen from the water. Seventy-five million pounds of pesticides are removed from the water per year by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC). With the chemicals in the water, it will cause dead zones and kill off the aquatic life. 

The article goes well with the topic of the research essay because it has all the components of the environment and what is harming it. It gives good insight on what people can improve the environment. The article also let’s the readers know how harmful chemicals have on the water bodies and the ecosystem surrounding it.

In this article, the author talks about the problem with nutrient pollution, the sources, the effects, and the solution towards it. Nutrient pollution is the most widespread and challenging environmental problem america faces. Most of it is caused by excess nitrogen and phosphorus in air and water. The biggest source of this pollution is from agriculture, storm-water, and wastewater. This pollution can impact the economy, people, and of course the environment. The pollution is mostly know for creating algal blooms which has a major tole on people and animal’s health and can cause dead zones in oceans. To stop the pollution problem, we need to reduce the amount of nutrients we used and reduce runoff. This problem will always be around but if we reduce the impact it has on everything. 

The information given by this article has a major role in my next Essay because it talks about the impacts this one pollution has on the environment and people. My topic is about how people effect the environment and since this pollution is one of the biggest people in the U.S., it would work perfectly in my essay. It also helps because it talks about the solution it has to tackle this problem and how we can reduce this problem.

The New Culture of Hunting

In  “Hipsters who Hunt” and “The Changing Culture of Killing for Food”, both articles had the same purpose or statement throughout it. I feel “Hipsters who Hunt” has a more effective at fulfilling its persuasive purpose because the author goes into depth about how the views are changing and how it is not a bad thing that they are. Both articles are credible and equal to each other due to the fact both had information from experience and from people with higher power. These articles are aimed for people in there mid 20s and 30s who are both hunters and non-hunters. The authors just want to point out the evidence of the view change some people have on hunting and how hunting is not a bad thing.

The Colorado River is a major water source to the south west part of the US but it’s also a major water source in parts of Mexico.When Hoover Dam was built it cut off the water supply to Mexico causing the river delta to dry up. This also caused many different types of plants and animals to die out. People had to leave their homes and village to find somewhere with water. This article talks about the different ways scientists and conversationalists are trying to save the delta. One major way is releasing water from the dam so plants will start to grow again. 

This article relates to the next essay I will write. I want to talk about the different way we can help our environment or ways to protect it. For instance, because of the nitrogen in the main water bodies from agricultural runoff, dead zones are forming in seas and oceans. One major dead zone is in the Gulf of Mexico. Dead zones are where there is no living life or ecosystem. In my essay I want to talk about how we can reduce the dead zones or other major environment problems from spreading.

In this article, Amanda Hess takes about the views in Alex Williams’s article, “The End of Courtship”. She agrees dating was simpler back when courting was around but that was because of the gender roles. Amanda states, “this old system relied on “charms”, but it sounds more like “sexism  to me.” Gender roles was a huge topic for Amanda Hess because she thinks that courtship made men and women acted, looked, and even presented themselves a certain way. Women were more submissive and men were more dominant. She states how the old gender roles are still around but becoming less noticeable. This change is because of technology, she thinks it can be a good thing because it is terminating the stereotypical gender roles.   

I have to agree with Amanda on her believes on this subject. Courtship made people believe men and women had to act a certain way and even look a certain way. People should not have to change who they are or how they act to find someone to date or even love. Technology helps bring out our personality by what we like and post on social media. Texting someone helps people get to know each other before having to meet that person; that way you know if you like them or not instead of having to deal with the awkward “break-up” or “i just want to be friends” before hand. You can still go on dates the same way as courting was back then. Some people prefer it and some people don’t. I believe it should be decided on the person.

In David Foster Wallace’s article, he talked about whether or not we should decide to eat animals based on the animal’s pain reception. I believe this is true to a certain extent. It is normal for all humans to want to eat meat but we should be aware of the pain it may cause the animals. We want to cause little to no pain to the animals before we eat them. It is not right to make them suffer, it is inhuman and cruel to the animals.

I always enjoyed watching the Band Of Brothers movies but listening to the veterans that actually went through it all is so much more interesting and touching. These veterans have seen a lot during WWII and you can tell by the way they talk about it; it still affects them today. I can’t thank them enough for what they did and for serving our country. If anyone sees a veteran or someone serving right now, please thank them because they didn’t have to put their life on the line for this county but they chose to.
