Judas Iscariot, “Heaven On Their Minds”- "Judas’ Death” Costume (Josh Young) Jesus Christ Superstar Stratford Shakespeare Festival 2011~Broadway Revival 2012 (2/3)

Costume Notes: The purple-grey shawl he wears over his robe is actually part of the robe. It's like an extension of the lining (they're the same fabric). This connection can be best seen in the second row left image, specifically if you look at the left side. The purple-grey shawl/collar is shorter than the robe and ends a before the hem of the robe (last row right). The robe also has a horizontal seam going from slightly above one under arm to the other across the back. Judas removes the coat and places it on Jesus during the "Everything's Alright Reprise" and is without it until before "The Last Supper." Judas's blue shirt is ruched in two places on the front and the fabric cords that gather it hangs out from the channels at the bottom of the shirt. His trousers look to be quite standard in pattern at least for the top bit with a visible fly piece and pockets on either side in the front. He also has a rosary like necklace with black beads on black cord with a silver charm in the center that I think is a hamsa. His shoes are black sneakers (last row left). They look to be standard shoes that they added black belt wrapping around the ankle part (while on Broadway the shoe is fully black while in the Stratford understudy costume it had white soles, see part 1). Also, Getty images have more shoe photos if anyone's interested.

Production Notes: This version started in Canada with the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, then was set to go to Broadway but before becoming the Broadway Revival in 2012 it had a run in the La Jolla Playhouse in 2011.

There is a full recording of Josh Young during the Broadway Revival and other official recordings of him singing Judas' songs. There is also a recording of Josh Young singing 'Gethsemane." Jeremy Kushnier has an 'unofficial' recording of his Heaven on YouTube, specifically a shot from the Stratford run.
