â hook, line & sinker ;
rkpjsâ
in a strange way, pj was here for jeno. he wanted him to give siyeon a chance, and, in his own way, this was pjâs way of giving her that chance. maybe they had gotten off on the wrong foot, or maybe siyeon just couldnât bring herself to tolerate him for whatever reason. why was it that she disliked him so much? pj couldnât remember, but he thought it had something to do with him being annoyingâwas she the one to say that? again, he couldnât rememberâmemories of her and others who had disliked him in the past blurred together. or maybe he just didnât want to remember. he subtly shook his head, pulling himself from his thoughts. now wasnât the time to dwell on any of that.
pj absentmindedly licked his lips as he looked down at the cake, momentarily forgetting that he had sabotaged the cake. even after remembering, however, he was still tempted to dig in. could it actually be that bad? sweet and spicy sounded like a perfect combination, and he couldnât help but consider the fact that he could have been onto something big. âpretty big, iâd say? likeâŠâ he held out his hands, doing his best to display how large he wanted his slice to be. maybe he was exaggerating a bit, but he doubted that siyeon would mind giving him the whole cake once she had tasted it. âlike that? yeah, like that, if thatâs okay. your cake, your call.â
she really doesnât want to jinx it, but something feels terribly off about this whole situation. heâs here to make amends, which in itself is suspicious, but heâs doing it so convincingly that sheâs torn. on one hand, accusing him of foul play seems like itâd be cruel if he really is here to make a deal to be civil ( for jenoâs sake, at least ), but if he isnât then she just looks like the fool for trusting him. how can she trust someone whoâs given her basically no reasons to? jeno always vouches for him and thereâs always a distinct guilt on her heart when sheâs reminded sheâs partly responsible for making it difficult for him to have both of them as his friends, but at the same time, sheâs not sure how anyone can blame her. pj had done nothing but antagonise her. she huffs out a breath, dragging herself back to reality as she watches him measure out the size he wants his slice.
âdamn, why did you even bring it over? if you wanted that much, you couldâve just kept the whole thing for yourself over a few sittings.â she clicks her tongue, but itâs a little playful. she hopes it comes across that way, anyway. âitâs definitely okay, though. the best part about baking is eating the final product, so Iâd feel bad if you didnât get a big portion even if it is technically a peace offering for me.â they might not always see eye to eye but when it comes to others enjoying and experiencing the same love for baking she has ( that is, without being as good as her ), then sheâll put aside any hard feelings. âhere you go,â she chirps, plating the slice and sliding it across the counter. âIâll have some, too.â she portions off a smaller slice for herself and grabs a couple bits of tissue for their fingers. âbon appetit?âÂ

the girl really seemed exceptionally cranky. maybe yuzu should leave her to it? but if she wanted to vent out her anger by trying to diss her, the future idol worried sheâd only talk herself into more of a frenzy.
âah I think I recently got into a line of work thatâll keep me plenty busy in the future,â she states vaguely, calm expression remaining on her lips. shifting her weight back and forth on her feet she swayed a little in a rather unbothered and laid back manner.
should yuzu somehow comment on the girlâs mood or would that only leave her more cranky. âitâs just a short somethinâ thatâs interestinâ t'sum. did one tarot reader tell ya that much bullshit that yer so iffy âbout 'em now?â
she doesnât know whether the otherâs vague answer is more ominous or just weird. truthfully, itâs always a little weird when people describe their career or job as a âline of workâ â isnât that the phrase crime shows use to hint at you who the perpetrator is? she rolls her eyes, hoping itâs just a difference in the way they talk rather than anything she should worry about, especially seen as sheâd so willingly been giving her attitude even in just these few short minutes of knowing one another.Â
âwell, I hope your line of work doesnât keep me busy...â she mutters under her breath before jumping back into a more confident tone. âpower to those people, but I just think itâs bull, you know? anyway, Iâve only ever been to one and it was a waste of my time and money. she forgot my name before Iâd even sat down. I just think itâs a bit of a scam. fun for some, but I canât ignore the hundred food stalls I could spend my money more wisely at.âÂ

at least i look cool.
sichengrkâ
itâs genuinely not his intention to make her so uncomfortable or shifty, but heâs never been the best at cautiously tiptoeing around sore topics. he does wonder why she is so weird about having a crush. then again, he supposes that he usually is about his own, too. itâs too risky to openly talk about it when itâs not something that anyone wants to get back to the other person. sicheng could potentially trust siyeon with knowing about his own, but thatâs only because he is pretty certain she doesnât personally know the one who makes him weak in the knees. âi can see youâre being kind of strange about it, so i wonât ask a lot of questions. also, itâs not my standards. i mean⊠i donât exactly play for your team⊠if you know what i mean.â he looks at her with a bit of an awkward smile, then quietly laughs. âitâs a good thing i donât like you, then. well⊠not in that way, that is.â
her questions amuse him, and he pretends to accidentally bump into her even though itâs actually one-hundred percent intentional. âyouâre so ridiculous. of course itâs human. itâs not a fictional crush, itâs a real crush. itâs, uh⊠an ex-idol. but the thing is, when this person used to be an idol, i was a big fan. in a way, i guess i never got over that, so itâs just⊠complicated. heâs extremely out of my league. but then again, iâve always had self-destructive tendencies.â
she doubts sichengâs going to tell anyone, much less jeno himself, but she feels so nervous just saying the words out loud. itâs almost as if doing so makes it all that little more real. if itâs all inside her, she can pretend it doesnât exist, but the second someone else knows, thereâs not much she can do to deny it. she wouldnât call herself strange about it either, though; from all the chick flicks sheâs seen and her own previous experience, this is pretty standard âteen girl with a crushâ behaviour. that being said, the word does make her shiver a little. not only does it feel a little immature, it also doesnât really begin to define how she feels. so maybe she is being a little strange, but he doesnât have to point it out so frankly. âyou shouldnât ask any questions because the less you know, the better!â she threatens, though her red cheeks arenât exactly intimidating. âoh. in that case... if you think about it, technically, you do play for my team.â it isnât a big deal and she tries not to make it as such. heâd come out to her so casually; sheâs just relieved he is comfortable enough to, and that he seemingly trusts her enough to do so, too.Â
âan ex-idol... right, so does he actually know who you are? because the answer to that completely changes this conversation, you know.â she tuts, pursing her lips. trust sicheng to make things unnecessarily complicated. he couldnât just have a crush on his timid and anxious best friend who he makes out with regularly without admitting the lingering feelings in every kiss? damn. âif you know him in person, I donât think itâs really fair to put so much thought into being a fan before. if he wasnât a good person when you got to know him in person, you would surely stop liking him pretty quickly?âÂ

. why you gotta be so rude?
rkjunhyukâ
this shouldnât be difficult. june was pretty sure that most people wouldnât be so annoying about giving a book they had found back to the actually owner. it should be a five second conversation, not sitting there and arguing about things. and it was starting to annoy him somewhat, a thick scowl on his face as he glared at the older female. why did she want to be so difficult and annoying about this anyway? he was just a kid, most people went easy on kids because they were, well, kids. sure he was almost sixteen and wasnât a little child anymore, but he usually still got nice treatment from older people because he still looked all sweet and innocent and that was usually enough.Â
âthatâs just a load of rubbish. i already said i didnât leave it behind on purpose. it was just an accident and it happened to slip my mind when i left,â and one he was going to be careful not to make again. especially in this establishment just in case she happened to be the one to find it again. âitâs nothing important,â he snapped, finally grabbing his book back, instinctively holding it out of reach just in case she tried to make a grab for it back. âschool notes, scribbles, stuff like that. nothing important.â though it was mostly filled with rap lyrics, but he didnât really want to talk about that. though, if she had managed to get a good look at the contents while she was being all nosy, then she had probably seen them already. âdonât think itâs any of your business whatâs in my notebook, anyway,â he did conclude with a small nod of his head.Â
this guy just isnât any fun. thereâs no urgency in his voice over something embarrassing she mightâve seen, or a hopeful twinkle in his eyes that she wonât spill all his secrets to the probably zero mutual friends they have. thereâs no play in the way he scowls at her, just pure annoyance and itâs growing so boring not getting her way. itâs all for amusement and if sheâs not getting any then whatâs the point? honestly, sheâs surprised he hadnât bolted the moment he got his notebook back. what is he getting out of continuing to talk to her?Â
âyeah, you say that now. but I didnât know that when I found it, genius.â sheâs one to talk. âanyway, if you ever were to leave it again, at least Iâd know this time whoâs it is, so I wouldnât have to look inside to find out.â she grins, just to irritate him a little more. she hates that it feels right to have people think poorly of her â that sheâs rude and annoying, that sheâs what sheâs always been lead to believe she is.Â
âsue a girl for being curious. Iâm sure if it it were me whoâd left my notebook behind, youâd be reading it, too.â sheâs not sure, but it rolls off her tongue before she can stop it. âanyway, itâs kind of boring if thatâs all thatâs in there â wasnât worth peeking.â she clicks her tongue. âalso, donât judge this place on me alone. the food and the service is good, even if I am kind of nosy and annoying. itâs pretty quiet sometimes, too, if you need to go over any of those school notes, or whatever.âÂ

â thunder only when it rains,
rkxliaâ
the pound of music blasts loudly ( but comfortably ) through the earphones plugged in her ears. julia nods her head in accordance to the beat, seemingly oblivious to the world around her. way above, blue skies have completely disappeared and replaced with it an overcast shades of grays. despite the impending doom, she bobs her head happily. it was all that can be said about her minute attention span and how she vanishes when sheâs engrossed in one thing.
as fleetwood mac sings about the sorrows of letting go, the sky opens up and brings down a torrential pour of rain. flustered and cursing under her breath, julia did the most rational thing at that moment; pushes open the door to the establishment closest to her. with no umbrella and no time to gather her wits, she acted upon impulse. frustratingly, even in that few seconds, the rain did a good number on her.
âiâm so sorry,â she squeaks in greeting, a gust of cold wrapping around her petite body. sheâs well aware of the drops of water falling steadily on the floor and cringes as she realizes she canât do anything about it. âiâm sorry,â julia repeats, eyes wildly roaming the space she enteredâbrown irises falling onto the lone girl behind the counter and the pretty signage behind her. mayflour bakery. âi know i shouldnât be here but is it okay if i dry off for awhile? i promise iâll step out as soon as the rain stops.â
itâs a quiet day, so itâs easy for her to get caught up in her thoughts as she wipes down the counter for the fourth time. sheâs on autopilot, circling around one spot with her eyes out the window watching a tree sway in the wind across the street. thereâs so much to think about when she makes everything so unnecessarily complicated, so sheâs surely startled back to reality at the sound of the bell above the door. it isnât loud by any means, but she hadnât been expecting anyone, much less when sheâs just about to convince herself to completely give up on love and adopt ten cats.Â
âo-oh, no, itâs okay!â she insists at her repeated apologies. sheâs not really sure at the time what sheâs apologising for, but thatâs enough for her to know itâs not needed. itâs only when she looks at her that she realises the rain had been heavier than she thought, because sheâs sure it only started a moment ago but the girl in the doorway seems to be soaked through. âare you okay?âÂ
thereâs no rules to being in the bakery, really â especially not when itâs pouring down outside and siyeonâs the only one out front. sure, maybe most places expect you to buy something, but when itâs empty like this, itâs not like having one less table is bound to cause any fights or loss of profits. âno, no, take a seat. of course itâs okay. itâs pretty shit out there, huh? wouldâve been nice to have some kind of warning before the heavens just opened like that, you know? do you want a coffee or somethingâ to warm you up?âÂ

carbon cookies.
rkchayâ
âoh?â the offer to bake together really piques chaewonâs interest. if she actually had siyeonâs help, sheâd want to tackle something grandiose. but keeping it simple is probably the best way to start, she begrudgingly admits. âyeah, we can make muffins! as long as theyâre not too sweet. maybe like a bran muffin or something.â
âyay!â she claps her hands together excitedly and grabs a cannoli as soon as theyâre offered up. the crunch and the taste are ridiculously indulgent. âmmmm. wow, talk about the benefits of being your friend,â chaewon says through the mouthful of sweetness. itâs definitely different from the ones she remembers having in italy - dishes always seem to change in translation when hopping borders - but thereâs no denying that itâs amazing. âiâll have to call it a tie,â she jokes. âitâs really good!
âsoâŠâ she leans on the counter, propping up her head as she finishes the snack. âif you have the stuff on hand, do you want to try making muffins now? the sooner i can forget about that mistake, the better,â chaewon says, pushing the plate of cookies away with a curled lip.Â
sheâd only suggested muffins for their simplicity; siyeon certainly wouldnât mind making something more exciting with chaewon in her own time. even if they spent the entire day baking, itâd be time well-spent in her eyes. any time in the kitchen not foraging for late night snacks is valuable to her, but she doesnât say anything. doubling down on how it isnât a big deal always makes it feel like it is â like her kindness isnât genuine.Â
âwe can make whatever kind of muffins you want; theyâre for you, after all!â she smiles, her eyes wrinkling and her cheeks rosy. âbran would be good, though. now that you mention it, itâs been a while since Iâve made muffins that arenât sweet. I made a ridiculous amount of cinnamon ones last christmas, and Iâll probably do it again this year. they seem to go down well in the winter.âÂ
she hums at the sudden question. a quick glance around the bakery confirms her suspicions â theyâre the only ones here, really, and thereâs a couple other staff members who can easily cover the counter should anyone come in, so why not? âsure! I donât think my manager will mind, as long as we donât burn anything.â she giggles. âwe should have everything we need; we stay well stocked.âÂ

she didnât expect the temper coming her way. blinking her lids and obviously taken aback a little, yuzu decides to keep it cool. âsorry, my bad,â she apologizes again before following the girlâs gaze and turns back to raise a brow at her. something told yuzu the girl had been in a foul mood today. better tread carefully if she didnât want to lend herself in the middle of an uncomfortable encounter. definitely not the type of publicity sheâd need just a month prior to actually debuting as an idol.
âwell to each their own believes,â the fool continues on calmly, hands disappearing into her pockets. âI find tarot fascinating,â is her follow up reasoning. did yuzu believe in tarot? maybe a little. the aesthetics alone were what drew her towards the craft the most though.
ânot really a belief, just presence of common sense, you know?â she mutters back, barely resisting the urge to roll her eyes. fortune tellers are just scammers to her; donât they just use body language and statistical chances to âpredictâ things that will get the best reactions from their customers? she isnât saying it doesnât take a lot of knowledge and skill, and if it comforts people to believe in it, power to them â excluding this girl. an eye for an eye. sheâs ruined siyeonâs mood a little more, so sheâll return the favour.Â
she hums, âif thatâs the case, you should get a little more excitement in your life. maybe pick up a new hobby? knitting?â she clicks her tongue. sheâd like to say sheâs not usually like this, but when sheâs wound up like she is today, she canât really be stopped. she isnât proud of it, though. ( sheâll certainly regret this later, or even before they part if she calms down soon enough. )Â

she had to. yuzu simply had to. the visit to the tarot reader was a must have for her. especially with the heavy changes happening in her life, she simply wanted some insight as to what to expect and what she could work against when changing her fate.Â
the persona fan within her jumped out again but she doesnât regret that purchase. to the fool it was money well spent.
pondering over the reading and the advise given to her, she doesnât stop to see the girl walking past the tent just as yuzu is coming out of it. shoulders bumping she moves a step back in surprise, eyes wide as she looks back into an unfamiliar face. âoh, sorry. didnât see you there.â
though the extent of the event is impressive, today, siyeonâs really only interested in her selfish desire to have a sort-of date on a picnic blanket with jeno and see minseo. any chance to see minseo is one sheâll take, especially if itâs free, though clearly thatâs a popular opinion because the park is packed out. crowds arenât a big deal to her, but when she bumps into another person ( six and counting ), she finally loses her temper a little.
âwill you watch where youâre going?â she snaps, adjusting her shirt where itâd bunched at her shoulder in the impact. looking over at the tent sheâd come from, she scoffs. âyou know that stuff is all hocus pocus, right? just plain nonsense; wasted money.âÂ

â hook, line & sinker ;
rkpjsâ
pj eyed the girl for a moment, shocked that she seemed so willing to hear him out. iâm surprised she didnât slam the door in my face the moment she saw me, he thought. he was glad that she didnât, though. everything seemed to be going according to plan, and pj hated to think of how disappointed heâd feel if he had gone through so much trouble for nothing. he was confident that this would eventually be something they could laugh about, and, even though the joke did rely on tricking her, maybe it would be funny enough to mend their relationship to a certain extent. even someone like siyeon had to see the humor in a perfectly executed practical joke, right?
âyeah, sure,â he replied, taking a step closer to the doorframe. âgotta say, though⊠iâm a little surprised that the noble queen is inviting the meager court jester inside,â he teased, closely following siyeon inside. his eyes darted around the interior of her house, as it wasnât a place he saw often. perhaps he was being a bit too nosy as it seemed like something new caught his attention with each second that passed. ânice place,â he noted under his breath as he continued to follow the girl. once the pair came to a stop, pj cracked a smile as he shoved his hands into his pockets, eager to see what would happen next. âman, iâm way hungrier than i thought iâd be.â
âtrust me, no oneâs as surprised as me.â she quips, already regretting it. itâs not difficult to decide she dislikes pj the least when his mouth is closed, though when he continues through her home, eyes darting around, the nervous nagging in her stomach reminds her she isnât too fond of him quiet either. he mumbles a compliment, but siyeon canât help wondering if itâs just a front, just a polite thing to say when youâre in someone elseâs house and his actual thoughts are a million miles away from it. does it really matter, though? why does she concern herself so much with what others think of her â especially people like pj who are probably never going to like her anyway? sheâs trying, she really is, but if it werenât for jeno, itâd feel completely hopeless.Â
regardless, she places the cake carefully down onto the kitchen counter, looking across it at the younger on the other side. something here is off, she can feel it, but she puts it down to the less than comfortable air between them. maybe heâs feeling just as weird about all this as she is. maybe itâs the strange consistency of the cake when she takes a last long glance before turning to grab a couple small plates and a knife. she wonât say anything; she isnât the type to shoot down someoneâs honest attempt to learn a new craft, especially one she loves so dearly. if he was actually good at it, on her level almost, itâd be another story, but heâs just a kid trying to make amends. right? âhow big of a slice do you want then, if youâre so hungry?âÂ

the power of three.
rkxricâ
rkjeno
normally, jeno would be fixated on siyeon enough to notice how nervous she seemed. he was usually pretty good at reading her, but his mind was too preoccupied for him to entirely notice. truthfully, heâd been out of it ever since he found out about eric. carrying around such a huge and horrible secret weighed him down, making him a hundred times heavier than usual. he wasnât constantly smiling or making jokes, he was far away, lost inside of his own mind. he agreed to do this because he wanted to start making an effort at strengthening his relationship with eric now that he knows heâs his brother, plus it was important to siyeonâŠ
but he couldnât help but feel there were more important things for him to be doing. with every day that passed by without him telling his mother the truth, or at least confronting his dad, he felt worse. he almost felt like an accessory to the crime, given he is withholding the information. it felt wrong⊠dirty⊠but he doesnât want to focus on that. he wants to have a good day, he just wishes that it wasnât so hard. finally, he turns to look at siyeon, trying his best to seem in good spirits. âheâll be here. maybe he got lost in the crowd.â
ericâs been trying not to think about it. that day at jenoâs when they figured it out had been one of the scariest days in ericâs life, and heâd been pretty on edge since. heâd been trying not to show it though, putting on a happy, bright, unbothered exterior so that know one knew he was constantly terrified of this situation going south. heâs scared that jeno blames him for ruining his perception of his family, and probably eventually the reality of his family, since eric assumes itâll eventually come out and heâll have been the catalyst to his family falling apart.
but, heâs got to pretend everything is okay for his own mental stability right now - he canât let his worries take over, especially not this weekend when heâs got so many people to spend time with. two of those people being jeno and a long-time friend of his, siyeon. eric has heard a lot about her, and knows she means a great deal to jeno. so, he has to make a good impression.Â
only problem is heâd just fallen in the river with chaewon and had literally only minutes ago waded out and parted ways with her, sending her off with his soaked plaid shirt to cover her white dress. heâd left her with other friends, knowing he needed to get to this picnic with jeno and siyeon, even if he was soaked and shivering. luckily itâs sunny, so heâs rapidly drying off as he walks across the grass, heading for the couple he can see on a picnic blanket not far away. âjeno!â he calls out as he gets close enough, finally stopped beside the blanket and giving a slightly embarrassed smile. âuh⊠sorry about⊠this,â he gestures at his soaked self. âi fell in the river.â
honestly, thereâs a million ways her mind conjured up that this could go, but this was never one of them. really, could anyone have expected this? at the very least, itâs an interesting story to tell in the future of their first meeting, but in the heat of the moment, sheâs not thinking of that. sheâs too busy tripping over her own feet so stand up and tug him closer to their picnic blanket.Â
âoh my god, you must be freezing, come here. itâs a good thing I was embarrassingly over-prepared.â ( thereâs no shame in bringing an extra blanket to a picnic, right? or enough food to feed them four times over? or packing three different types of drink in case he didnât like the first two options? right? ) sheâs tugging the blanket from her spare bag in seconds, unfolding it and frowning at the fact that, unlike a towel which would have been so much better to pack had she ( by some miracle ) predicted this, it probably wonât be too absorbent. that being said, the summer sun is still beating down so hopefully it wonât be too long until he dries off naturally, anyway â enough to enjoy the rest of the day, at least. unless youâre having a romantic kiss under the rain, being soaked to the bone isnât really a happy or comfortable experience. hurriedly, she wraps it around his shoulders to keep him warm.Â
what she should be asking is how this happened, or why, but it doesnât really seem important. her curiosity can get the better of her later when sheâs stopped worrying that heâs going to catch a cold or worse. âjen...â she starts quietly, turning back to her best friend with soft eyes â the kind of gaze only he and her grandma typically get, one thatâs full of concern and fondness. it doesnât last long, though, because rather than make things too serious, she cops out into her usual playful snark. âI hate to say it, but looking at you right now,â she turns to eric, âand what I know about you,â then jeno, âyouâre definitely related.âÂ

what is there to say about siyeon? pj doesnât hate her, but he doesnât consider himself to be her biggest fan, either. they both consider themselves to be jenoâs best friend, and pj thinks itâs only natural for him to feel somewhat insecure in his position. neither pj nor siyeon seems too keen on becoming best buddies, which, funnily enough, seems to be one of the few things they agree on. theyâre polar opposites, and, despite the fact that some people claim that opposites attract, pj and siyeon have inevitably butted heads a few times in their time of knowing each other.
the muddy waters of their friendship, or lack thereof (pj isnât sure at this point), is why he finds himself at siyeonâs doorstep, tightly grasping the dish in his left hand. pj exhales, fighting back a chuckle as he knocks on the door several times. when siyeon opens the door, the younger offers her a disarming grin. âhey, siyeon. i bet youâre thrilled to see me, right?â he chuckles, rubbing the back of his neck with his free hand. âi know we havenât always gotten along, so⊠i brought a peace offering,â he says, extending the dish in the girlâs direction. âitâs carrot cake. made it myself, actually. jeno told me you liked it, so i just kind of figuredâŠâ his voice trails as he conveniently fails to mention his secret ingredient: extra spicy chili powder.
siyeon doesnât really like pj. initially, she had attributed it to his insistence that he was jenoâs best friend ( and her slight protective nature, and probably a little of her desperation not to lose him ), but as time went on, he just seemed to create more problems for her. sheâd not at all affectionately announced him devil spawn a little while back and she still thinks about the look in jenoâs eyes. it haunts her, makes her stomach bubble, so she tries ( keyword: tries ) to be nice to him, to tolerate all the shit he gives her without dealing too much of it back. sometimes, he just makes it so damn difficult, though.Â
âoh, absolutely. I canât contain my excitement at all.â she answers, hand still on the door so she could slam it shut at a momentâs notice should she need to. thereâs a sliver of doubt in her mind, but the tone of his voice sounds sincere as he continues. not to mention, he went through the effort of making ( or buying and saying he baked; either way, itâs a cake ) something for her thatâs relevant to her interests. he even asked jeno about it. he couldâve easily just picked up some random chocolates and showed up with one mysteriously missing from the corner of the box, but he didnât. stupidly, she reaches for it and offers him a small smile. âwell... I canât say this isnât a complete surprise, but... thank you for trying. do you want to come in? Iâll cut you a slice.âÂ
