Okay, but consider this: an ancient / immortal being and a time traveler that keep running into each other throughout different periods of history…

as we've talked about it - @shadowedstaff

shadow magic requires the use of tools - at least initially. if a user dedicates themselves to the craft of shadowmancy, it is possible to use it without tools. it's difficult and incredibly dangerous to do so, as it does draw more intensely on one's emotions or strength.

it's easier to get into the craft and use shadow & dark magic if you have the correct relics - such as the skathe hrun or other totems.

of course, natural talent for the craft - for users like morgana and claire - it helps. though, some people can try and just not be able to use it - like hisirdoux.

morgana tilts her head. he's curious, this youngling. most of the trolls would have long fled into the forest's cover, as they've only come to know pain and misery at the hands of humans.

"are you certain, dear boy?" morgana's brow pinches, and she closes the distance between them. "surely removal would help?" she tries to coax, as if he were a bird.

she reaches for that onyx shard, something familiar sparking at her fingertips. what magic worked its way through this troll?

morgana's offer sits on his shoulders. she doesn't know him - and all she should ever know is that he is her enemy. in this time he's only a troll pursued by camelot; but in the future - his present and her distant future - he will defend arcadia against her, only for claire to bind her in the shadow realm.

"no. i'm sorry - i don't know what will happen with it's removal." pain. that's what will happen. pain, and the sense that it'll undo him. running away and pushing it in further did not help, in fact it only made his senses worse, the pain searing in his chest. "i appreciate the offer, but... i can't risk it. at least right now i can fight, i can protect those who can't fight."

he needs to get back to callista. he can't stay here and talk. they're both vulnerable.

"i could remove that shard." she speaks with the care of the trees, the ancient land surrounding herself and "it's dark magic." gold-guarded fingertips reach out to him. her handmaiden dotes on this poor troll, and there is clearly more to the boy. his right hand clutches at his chest, where a onyx point spears through to his heart.

"i promise i will not harm you."

out of all the people to give jim such cryptic, yet sensible advice.... for it to be morgana, mother of monsters. however, right now, right then, morgana is not that. she is only the pale lady, a title donned upon her shoulders with the hunt of magic kind set upon them all by arthur. "... mmkay?" he shrugged. jim doesn't think of himself as eldritch. if anything, that would be claire - the girl teaching herself the same dark arts morgana holds a mastery over. the woman that posessed jim and tried to kill him with his girlfriend's hands. and now, while he stands in the shade of camelot's forest, she tells him this. "i think i have the whole dehumanizing thing down - given the fact i'm a troll, and not human." he can't reveal what's happened, cannot reveal that merlin had given him a potion that has forever changed him to be somewhere between two worlds.

"oh, but you still matter, dear child." morgana gestures warmly. the poor troll is terrified, hunched over in his armour. given the fact the other trolls have left him be at the mercy of human troll hunters, he is either unfamiliar to them, or deemed too much of a hassle to care for in his injured state.

but this boy had been with her handmaiden, when she'd revealed that fated shadow magic to cover the troll boy to protect him from the harsh sun. little lady claire had been so curious, especially as both the troll and she wore armour reminiscent of merlin. "if you make a monster of yourself, do it of your own volition, not anyone else's. and once again, i repeat, i shall not harm you. i made my promise to my handmaiden - and i do intend to keep it."

wizards & witches are something else entirely. to be arcane is to embrace the eldritch; unseen & unknown. they are often masters of at least one element. wizards & witches are not defined by their assumed or chosen gender; they are defined by their practice.

both witches & wizards are known to have long, extended life spans. their magic also lends to them being difficult to kill, but not impossible. their magic also has its limits - and when they are unable to cast to protect themselves, that's when you hunt them.

wizards work by the book - working within guidelines and structure - casting using spells and staves, and often work alone - though can be found with a mentor or apprentice. they are often employed as an advisor to royalty or other powerful figures.

the moment you choose differently - the moment your practice falls to ritual and potion - you may be labelled a witch instead. especially if your elements are dark and your intents darker.

however, there are hedge witches & those working with nature & other light magics are fighting the stigma of shadow magic-bound witches.

" l i t t l e l a m b." the voice creaked from the mirror, haunting. the face was their own, reflecting back wide brown eyes, a haunting stare morgana knows matched her own. the look of someone tempted & taken by shadow magic. a poor lost child, lost to the temptation for more.

and a new way to get back at merlin, sending his naive trollhunters to die at her feet, again and again. oh, how the current trollhunter could never know that she is bound beneath his silly little knight's feet as they seek to destroy gunmar - only a pawn in her plans anyway.

out of everything to first post on morgana - all i can say is that i love evil women and wizards is definitely a product of crunch time. i still love it though...
