Small update. I’ve been writing a lot more lately, after establishing more of a routine. For the past week ish, I’ve been writing around 2000 words each time I’ve sat down to write, and my draft is now up to a little over 12k words and I think I’ve finally gotten over this weird paralysis I’ve had around starting my draft since reworking the plot and fully outlining it. It’s been nice and it feels productive, and I hope I can keep up the momentum.

I still don’t have access to a laptop to update my WIP info, but hopefully that’ll change this weekend. I won’t have a new laptop for a while, but I’ll finally be able to borrow my mom’s (I kept forgetting, and then when I did manage to remember, I forgot the cord for the cooling pad because the laptop itself doesn’t have a fan?? And is unusable without a cooling pad imo) and update things.

I don’t expect to be more active here. I say this every time I post but I don’t really even know why I have this blog. I can’t imagine a shitty tumblr that posts once every few months will ever help me toward trad publication or building an audience If I self publish, but whatever. I feel like making updates now and then holds me accountable in a way.

In other news, my girlfriend bought me the new Fantasy Life and I’m completely addicted :’) Yesterday when she and I tried to play together I thought keywords were the same as passwords and somehow totally missed the password option, and some random person like 20 levels above us tried to join and I panicked and closed the session. Sorry whoever you are :’)

Was planning on redoing my about page to reflect the changes in my wips because I want to be more active here, but it’ll have to wait until the weekend when I visit my mom and can use her laptop, because my laptop has finally permanently died 🫠 and I can’t change anything about my desktop theme with my iPad. Tumblr is not optimized for tablets, at least not mine.

Hi, I’m alive.

I’ve been writing, I just haven’t really felt like talking about it on here? More and more, having a writing blog like this feels pointless.

But anyway, small update I guess:

I’ve completely reworked my wip Celestial Bodies from the ground up, and am in the drafting process.

I’ve put my wip Fallen Star on hold, because it was tied to the original world of CB, but now it might have to be its own stand-alone thing and I might need to rework some stuff.

I’ve been writing for a fandom-based, text-based private RP with my girlfriend fairly regularly, like several times a week, which I feel like has helped me to build a writing routine.

I’m starting to get interested in ttrpg, but I have no one to play with (girlfriend is long distance and very busy with a full time job and I don’t want to take time away from her other hobbies and our ongoing rp), roommate isn’t interested, don’t really have many other IRL friends and afraid of playing online with strangers) so I’m thinking of getting into solo ttrpgs. I’ve made a couple characters already, I just haven’t gotten around to actually playing yet. When I do, I might post about that here? Because it’s kind of writing, I suppose. I’ll either post about it here or just make a sideblog for it.

Got an idea for a fanfic for the first time in forever but it takes place in the 1800s and I don’t know a fucking thing about the 1800s, so I need to do some research before I can actually write it. Will I share it publicly? Who knows! I tend to keep my fanfic to myself and only share it with my girlfriend and one of my old college friends. But it’s a writing project, so I might as well mention it.

Aaand that’s what’s been going on with me.

I don't like resolutions but I like goals, so I'm going to make a short list of my writing goals for 2025 (I'll be making a similar list for art on my other blog)

Write more in general

Try writing more short stories

Finish a draft of one novel WIPs, doesn't matter which one

Read more, without taking over a month to finish a book because I get distracted and forget about it

Read more poetry

Write more poetry, maybe a poem a a week

Try to find active writing servers and actually be active in them

Tied into the last one, make writing friends. Actual friends that I can talk to, not just another mutual

That's all I can think of for now! If I think of more by New Year's, I'll add to it.

✨I broke 5k words!✨

I ended up deleting what wasn't working and switched the pov to one of my other protags and it works much better. It was also much more fun to write, which tells me I made the right choice.

And! I actually wrote earlier in the afternoon for once, proving to myself that I can write during daylight hours. But I wrote the bigger chunk of today's word count after midnight, so I think night writing is still more productive for me.

Feeling stuck so I think that means I need to delete about 1000 words or so and go in a different direction because what I had planned isn’t working and wasn’t thought out well enough 😔

The keyboard is a refurbished Logitech Folio Touch, I didn't get one of those crazy expensive magic keyboards or whatever. I think these are super expensive new too, but refurbished was under $50.

It feels nice and solid compared to the Surface keyboard folio I had like six years ago. That thing felt like I could tear it like paper if I tried hard enough. And it feels nice to type on, I just need to get used to the tiny backspace and enter keys.

I'm broke now, so I have to use a free word processor, but at some point I plan to get Scrivener on my iPad since it's been my go-to for fiction writing for over ten years now. I've had it on a Macbook (now permanently dead, rip) and my Windows laptop, I plan to stick with it on my iPad when I can. But I'll probably just use Obsidian for now.

Passport and iPad keyboard both came in today! So now I can start to plan my trip properly, and I'll be able to write on the plane when I go 🖤

currently writing chapter eight of BIRCHLORN, and the plot is plottening ^^ here's an excerpt:

There's a woman at the counter, writing something in a book—a ledger or a recordbook, if Bai Hua had to guess—, and when Bai Hua enters, she looks up. She looks youthful, but Bai Hua is fairly certain that she's at least middle-aged. There's something familiar about her that Bai Hua can't quite place—around her eyes and nose. It's probably one of the dozens of professors she's had��more than once, she's caught some familiar features in strangers while here; never enough to make it uncanny, but just enough to make her pause.

Hit my very small word goal for the day after forgetting to write for a little over a week. I'm now up to 4,720 words and an unexpected subplot has revealed itself. I can't say I'm upset about it, but now I have to figure out what to do about it

Also does anyone know of any good and active writing discord servers? Preferably 18+ or 21+? And with a focus on original (not fanfic) writing?

I've only just started using discord for 'professional' things and I've made a second account to keep it separate from my personal life stuff. I use my professional account on desktop only, so I won't be a frequent poster in any server, but it would be nice to be able to hang out in one when I want to feel like I'm writing among other writers and maybe make some like-minded writer friends.

So I signed up on the Starting Off Write site and joined the discord. I didn't do Nano this year because. Well. It's gone to shit. This looks like it could be a good alternative. I'm thinking about participating in this a much as I can, but I have plans that will hopefully work out for January that involve traveling abroad (as long as everything goes smoothly with my passport application). I'll be going to visit my long distance girlfriend and also do some tourist stuff, so I won't have a lot of time to write, but I can at least write on the plane? 😅 Which I was planning to do anyway, but now it'll just be part of this event.

I really should work on my handwriting though. I love writing with fountain pen, and wish I could handwrite my first drafts. I handwrite notes sometimes but like I said, they're a nightmare to decipher when I type them up later.

I have a keyboard for my iPad coming in soon (not from Apple, I'm not rich lol, it's third party), which means I'll hopefully be writing more once it's here.

I really hate having to lug out my inconveniently large laptop when I want to write, especially if I feel like writing somewhere outside of my house. The ability to easily write anywhere will definitely increase my motivation
