Debuted in 1993, and changed Korea music scene COMPLETLY. They gained insane popularity in less than a year and basically establish how modern k pop sounds and how Idoldom work in kpdh Korea.

Mi Yeong has to leave her cat, Kimchi, with her grandmother when she joined the hunters (one of her mentors was allergic) and repeatedly tried to convince Celine and Hayoon to get a cat post-debut. Celine always refuse bc they barely have time to breath or sleep with being both idols and hunters, and a pet would be too much effort. Mi Yeong probably could convince her if Hayoon would've joined her in the pressure on Celine, but she doesn't like cats. :(.

Hayoon and Celine fought all the time, from innocent argues and often funny like their different opinion on the Beatles (I have an image in my mind of the " I fucking hate The Beatles" meme(?) with Hayato Miyazaki but with Celine and I can't ride of it) or Celine' fondness of spicy food VS Hayoon' sweet tooth, but also bad ones, about how Hayoon thought Celine value their duty higher then she value her and Mi Yeong's happiness and safety, and Celine was often hurt by Hayoon's impulsiveness and ignorance. This sure will not end in Celine's sword on Hayoon' neck and in cold words about how if she will even do as much as GET CLOSE to Rumi again, Celine won't hesitate or hold back like she did now. Sure.    

Both Hayoon and Celine tend to be overprotective on Mi Yeong during battles, bc her gukgung (Korean bow) didn't fit to close range combat. It's drove Mi Yeong CRAZY, since she could hold herself perfectly fine in close range combat even with her bow, and she already felt like the other two don't treat her equal bc she's the maknae and hated that their company demands  she will always act like the sweet and innocent member in public when she was definitely the most emotionally intelligent in their trio.

Mi Yeong was the fan's favorite. Many in Korea has issues Celine and Hayoon' not Asian heritage, and Celine' calm and always-on-control carefully crafted image made many of the younger fans to see her as e colder than Hayoon and Mi Yeong who were very social and friendly with their fans, and the more misogynic often sew her as "bitchy". Hayoon was always all over the place, always, and unlike the other two didn't hesitate to be rude right back to rude fans, something that hurt her image a lot and she fought with Celine about very often. Mi Yeong was much better in dealing with this kind of fans politely but firmly, so they didn't felt like she hurt them but also didn't ruined whatever The Sunlight Sisters was doing, and while her innocent – sweet – couldn't hurt a fly persona was partially false, the fans really loved it.

Hayoon' grandfather was afro American who fell in love with her grandmother when he served in the American forces in the Korean war. He decided to stay in Korea, and was very  present during Hayoon' childhood, and despite the anti-Americanism in 80' and 90' Korea, Hayoon was always proud of her heritage. While she couldn't talk about this freely to not ruin their reputation, the sheer fact that one of the most famous idols in Korea never hided her  afro American roots  did a LOT to normalize Multiethnic children in kpdh Korea, and almost every multiethnic person in Korea (and many outside of Korea) at the time was her die – hard fan. (Yes, this includes Zoey. Hayoon was her bias since she was a child. ) she often fight with Celine, who very much hate their white side, and did things like straighten her wavy hair and didn't want people to know about it. Their first BIG fight post debut was after Hayoon told their interviewer on live tv Celine's mother was white.

Have the absolute worst experience with Idoldom. They were in the public eye ALL THE TIME, and every little mistake was jugged heavily. Hayoon and Mi Yeong would've not care- it's their life, the newspapers and the fans can say what they want – but the fans are what holding the Honmoon together, so they HAVE to keep it good and perfect. They didn't have someone like Bobby, it was just three teenagers who have to deal with literal demons on the street and metaphorical demons of racism, impossible beauty standards, misogyny and treatment and expectations from their company that even without their second career was toxic and often fell into the workplace abuse territory. they dealt with this in different ways, but all the three of them become the MOST FUCKING CODEPENDENT trio to ever exit. Like, If Celine didn't knew where the other two are in every given moment she'd spiral into panic attack, If a fan will do as much as look at Celine and Mi Yeong in suspicious way Hayoon will unleash hell, and Mi Yeong was always a little bit too worried Hayoon and Celine will not make up this time. (how ironic, that her worst nightmare did came true, but only when she wasn't alive to watch anymore). Celine was so traumatized by it, she fight tooth and nails the idols on SE will not get the same treatment. Ironically, it was a big factor in the company' success. Who knew that when you make sure your employers are healthy, allow them maximal freedom and reward them  well for their work, they'll do a better job?.  

While Hayoon was in good terms with her parents and brothers and Mi Yeong, despite being an orphan -her mother died in the Gwangju Uprising, and her father died from cancer when she was 12- was taken into by her grandmother and have a pretty good home life overall, with her father being loving and supportive before his death and her grandmother being just as kind, Celine didn't really have a family. Her mother went back to France when Celine was young, and her father was pretty distant and didn't care about her and her little sister much. After a demon killed her sister when she was ten years old, her father gave her to the hunters, who did their best but have their own bad traumas after losing their leader to Gwi-Ma  a few years ago, and treat her more like "future hunter" than a kid. The Williams family (Hayoon's grandparents, parents and  1 older brother plus two younger brothers) and Mi Yeong's grandma like her a lot, and even though the company make it hard for them to visit them often, both of the families treat all the three girls like their daughters and are basically the only ones who actually make sure they eat fine and don't push themselves too far. They can't do a lot, but they tries, and that's mean much more than they know.

there seems to be a popular belief that masquerade still retains alice's feminine body when he possesses her, which i disagree with. im more inclined to believe that alice's body changes whenever masquerade takes over.

(notice how masquerade is scratched up from his fight against dan but alice has none of those marks when she's back in control.)

i frequently see the breastplate used as evidence for masquerade having a female body but im fairly certain it was added for the sake of preserving alice's modesty. the show can't have alice wear a tattered tank top like dan so they had to find a workaround. masquerade isn't wearing the breastplate as a makeshift binder, he's wearing it conveniently so that alice is covered up when he gives up control and changes back into her.

anyways i just love the way kpop demon hunters stayed true to its roots in korean/asian culture, especially around the core theme of community vs individualism

the fact that it's not a single chosen one but a group of three

the fact that the honmoon is not powered by the hunters themselves but by the energy and love of the fans

the fact that gwi-ma turns people into demons by promising that he is the only one who can help them when he is in fact reliant on his army of demons to collect souls for him

the fact that "your idol" is about surrendering yourself to a single higher power while "golden" is about soaring to new heights together

the fact that gwi-ma preys on people's individual insecurities and shame to get inside their heads while rumi, mira, and zoey set them free in the end by encouraging them to embrace their differences and reminding them that they're not alone

the fact that you can see the audience cheering individually and even pushing into each other to get closer to the stage during "your idol"

while they're linking arms and cheering together and hugging during "what it feels like"

i have not seen the live action lilo and stitch but it feels like that movie sits on the opposite end of the spectrum from kpop demon hunters as a case study for how to tell a story in way that is culturally authentic and still resonates with a broader audience

and i think given that the core theme of the movie is all about community over individualism, the ending, particularly as it relates to rumi and jinu's budding romance, is really the perfect culmination of that broader theme

rumi and jinu's connection has all the hallmarks of that all-encompassing, all-consuming, borderline co-dependent first love where you keep your relationship a secret and sneak out of the house to meet up and feel like the other person is the ONLY person who really gets you

i'm the only one who can understand you, i'm the only one who will love you is the kind of thing that sounds romantic when you're 16 until you get older and realize how toxic it actually is and i love that the movie counters that in "what it feels like" with rumi realizing that she had that love and support all along from her girls, and later, from the fans who continue to cheer them on through their comeback

it's about connection and sisterhood and love and sharing your fears and lifting each other up and becoming stronger and better together

and as compelling as i found rumi/jinu and as much as i would like to see their relationship explored more in a sequel/series, i just really love that this movie, which is clearly targeted at young women, ends on the message that romantic love is not the end all be all, that friendship is just as important if not more so than a romantic partner, that single women can lead successful, fulfilling lives, that true happiness and freedom start from within

it's crazy that this message still seems revolutionary in 2025 but given the current state of the world, it feels more necessary than ever

A rather long, more angsty comic that I had in my drafts for a while. I feel like things like this probably happened more than once. I imagine N was a walking trauma reminder for both J and V because of how he was the only one being consistently lobotomized and kept in the dark. It could've been a factor to J's disdain with him but I also think it jaded V. I can't imagine she was always so cold with him, i feel like after watching the last "friend" you thought you had becoming a scraped out dog for the thing that killed you both kinda kills any hope you might've had left. At some point V decided that the best way to interact with what has become of N was to pretend she didn't remember his name

What if the switch thing stays the same in cannon; Alice is still Masquerade. But when Reaper proves to be insufficient, Masquerade uses Hydranoid cause he is Alice's Bakugan. Then lo and behold, Hydranoid almost immediately shows himself superior to any other Bakugan Masquerade used previously.

Hydranoid knows that Alice and Masquerade are the same person but he also knows that if he says anything Naga could possibly "erase" Alice so Masquerade can have her body permanently, so Hydranoid stays silent. He even plays up the "I am only after power/becoming the strongest Bakugan" when he's with Masquerade while playing a more humble and caring (only to Alice) persona when he's with Alice. Things get a bit funny when Alice's Hydranoid Evolves the same time as Masquerade's.

I kinda want Alice to still be hesitant to battle. But if anyone challenges her, well, she isn't one to back down without a fight. Masquerade is just the part of her that battles ruthlessly and without mercy, he prolongs the battle, letting his opponent have a sliver of hope before he crushes it by defeating them. Alice on the other hand, only uses enough force to beat her opponent quickly, even giving them advise if they're not a jerk.

The trial with Exedra is more a trial for Hydranoid than for Masquerade as he now has to fight his real partner

brawler alice au where she is the team darkus brawler and has hydranoid as her bakugan the whole time like dan gets drago and alice just chimes in with "doesnt everyone have a talking bakugan" and introduces hydranoid

where this gets fun is episode 13 where dan and shun battle masquerade (and each other but not important) because masquerade throws in hydranoid who dan Imediately recognises as "hey thats alice's bakugan" following dan Imediately confronts alice with something along the lines of "why does masquerade have your bakugan" to which she would look at him like hes an idiot and pull out hydranoid like "what are you talking about"

i dont have much more than that. my brain is just fixated on actually gettimg to see alice brawl and is trying every thing to make it a thing
