THIS CALLS FOR A VERY SPECIAL BLEND OF PSYCHOLOGY & EXTREME VIOLENCE!
Don't wanna be here? Send us removal request.
Text
Enemies-to-lovers, but instead of featuring a villain redemption arc, the heroic one is getting progressively more corrupt, unhinged and fucked up, and the one who was originally the clear-cut villain out of the two is just like "well mark me down as scared and horny"

So it turns out I'm old fashioned and I'm looking for ✨~commitment~✨
Here's what's up, I don't super care what people call it now — mains, affiliates, whatever ( not exclusives, tho I don't live that life ) but what I'm interested in is people who like actually want to do plots and build a story. Things that might even — god forbid — require worldbuilding, npcs and multi-person threads/plots.
I'm dead ass serious about this. I'd rather NOT rp instead of do endless improv'd predominantly slice of life threads that have no real effect on anything. I quit this rp for 2 years and went into fanfic instead and that's been arguably way more rewarding because I actually got to Do Things even if I missed out on a lot of fun and community aspects. So please don't like this just because you don't wanna be excluded or something, I am looking for people to make a blood oath to create Narratives™ with. I'm not gonna become isolationist here but without a core plot to this blog I'll just Implode and Die.
Collaborators can expect:
A general level of higher priority ic and ooc.
Multiple threads
Concerted efforts to make things that work for both of us or to evenly spend time on plots that grow a single character.
A willingness to play "npc" type characters aka people we need for a plot but aren't worth a whole blog etc like a villain, any background ocs of yours or mine needed, etc.
Edits and such as the interest strikes me
Lots of au ideas, thread ideas, varying dynamics, brainstorming etc
A commitment to our bullshit even after years spent fallow. ( Seriously. I'm still committed to lore from people who don't even rp anymore )
Some amount of what we come up with will probably become baked into the lore of my blog/character/lore/whatever
Probably some other shit I can't think of rn
Please note this is for mutuals only, especially people I've already written or talked a bit OOC. Mutuals who're also interested in spending some time talking OOC and seeing if we click and are gonna be cool about it if we don't are welcome too.

I think the “Spike as the First’s sleeper agent” plot is an under-criticised part of S7. S7 gets a lot of flack - some of it fair and some less so - but it’s pretty widely agreed upon that it’s a bit overstuffed with characters and subplots, which drown out the main characters. People usually point to Robin Wood, Andrew, and Kennedy/the Potentials as the culprits here. I don’t totally disagree - it would’ve been nice to see more of an arc for the core four scoobies and Anya, whose arc totally dissipates after Selfless - and more new characters necessarily means less time for the existing ones. But I can understand why all of these characters exist, and they do have value to them.
The Potentials are obviously essential, not just to the plot, but to the season’s central idea of analysing and redefining the concept of the Slayer. I don’t think a version of S7 that doesn’t include Buffy taking the Potentials into her house could work. Kennedy is kind of essential among them to be the “experienced” voice in the room. Robin Wood again ties into the idea of the Slayer history, and also to Buffy being haunted by the people she couldn’t save. Bringing Nikki back into the mix is a great move for Spike’s arc too, as it forces us to reckon with how a core part of Spike’s image and identity is built on this violent act that destroyed a family. Andrew brings a whole new perspective that is really interesting, being this outside observer who gives us this slanted angle on the show we’re used to, as well adding to the many quasi-redeemed sinners of S7 (Willow, Spike, Faith, Anya). The execution of these subplots is up for debate - but I think there’s real value in all of them and I can see why the writers chose to bring them in.
But Spike’s trigger and period as a sleeper agent for the First is one of those plots that feels like a big deal, but ultimately doesn’t add anything that wasn’t already there. It doesn’t affect the plot meaningfully, and it doesn’t change anyone’s perspective on Spike. Buffy was wary of Spike but wanting to honour the fact he was now ensouled before the trigger plot, and she was wary-but-forgiving afterwards. Robin hated Spike already, and hated him afterwards. Xander was already distrustful, and the other Scoobies on the fence. It’s a needless complication. It suggests that Spike might not be entirely trustworthy, but none of the characters really trusted Spike at that point; they all had good reason to keep him at a distance. It’s utterly redundant. Spike himself isn’t even greatly affected by it. The scene in Never Leave Me where Spike asks Buffy to kill him is interesting because it seems to instantly realise the limits of this plot. He says he’s done bad things, Buffy immediately states that he wasn’t in control, so Spike brings up the things that he did as a soulless unchipped vampire. A mind-control plot means we can’t really hold Spike’s actions against him, and the show realises that and so has to go back to his actions pre-chip to mine drama - which was already there, rendering the sleeper-agent plot pointless. There’s nothing to do with it other than shrug and move on. It’s a narrative cul-de-sac.
The only meaningful impact that I can see is that it gave Giles a concrete reason to move against Buffy - I can’t see him plotting to kill Spike without that. But that is kind of its own little cul-de-sac - Giles plots to kill Spike with Wood, they fail, Buffy gets mad at him, then she forgives him in time for the finale. I can’t say that this was worth the effort. I think the common criticism that Spike took up too much screentime in S7 is overstated, but it’s frustrating to me that so much time is specifically spent on this subplot that doesn’t really add anything and can be easily brushed off, instead of reckoning fully with the things that Spike is truly responsible for, especially after Beneath You set up so much great stuff for him.
