I remember reading a fic a long time ago where a bunch of wackos tried to sacrifice Merlin as an offering to summon Emrys, without knowing Merlin WAS Emrys. (I am so sorry I can never remember the fics I am inspired by).

I just have had that fic bouncing around in my head, with my version of the concept being through the "sacrifice", Merlin kinda loses consciousness and his magic goes haywire, going somewhat out of control (no violence, just think overgrowth of nature), and when Merlin comes to, Arthur and the knights are freaking out. They are acting like they are talking to The Lord Emrys, not realizing it is still Merlin. Shenanigans/Misunderstandings ensue where Arthur wants to get His Merlin back and Merlin doesn't know how to break the news that not only does he have magic, he is also Emrys.
