Uncle Tony’s Pizza
Tumblr media
Located in Harlem across from CCNY’s campus is Uncle Tony’s Pizzeria. They are a small shop with a wide variety of pizzas to choose from and filled with good music, and vibes. The service from the staff was excellent with them offering a free can of soda with a purchase of two slices of pizza. For a quick bite or a sit-down, it is pretty good. The ingredients are top of the line and fresh with a staff that cares as mentioned by the website, “Here at Uncle Tony's, pizza is made with the finest ingredients, lovingly prepared by a staff that considers cooking an art form. Every slice at Uncle Tony's is prepared in the Italian tradition of buon gusto.”

NY Slice
The NY slice from Uncle Tony’s was one of the best slices to have been created. The dough is soft, and the underneath of the pizza was crunchy. It also has a nice smokey flavor and a wonderful cheese pull. They also have a great assortment of extra cheese and pepper flakes to add for an extra kick. Overall, I’d rate this pizza a 9.5/10.
Grandma Slice
The Grandma Slice was by far one of the best slices out of all the other slices. It was nice and thin and crunchy on the edges. Eating the grandma slice was one of the best because I didn’t feel bloated and could eat a lot more. The cheese to sauce ratio was perfect and each bite was packed fill with flavor. If I had one last meal this would, be it. Overall, the grandma slice is the winner for me, so it gets a 10/10.

Postiano
Tumblr media
Located in a little shopping center in Williston Park, Positano is a small family style pizzeria and restaurant with a to go counter in front and a cozy dining room in the back. Upon entering I was greeted by a man working the front counter eager to offer the pizzas they had. Positano was created by an immigrant from Naples who worked his way up from being a dishwasher.  The website mentions, “Growing a deep passion for food, he came to the U.S. to have the American dream to own his own restaurant.”  After learning about the history I had to come and try it out for myself.

Margherita
The appearance of the pizza looked as if it was made by a child. There was an uneven ratio of cheese to sauce and the crusts width was quite thin. The overall taste was the same as a regular New York slice that you could get from anywhere. However, that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, the crust itself was crunchy and had a nice smokey flavor from their brick oven. Overall, I’d rate this a 6.5/10.
Buffalo Chicken Slice
The buffalo chicken slice was great. It had a mix of savory and spicy. The chicken was seasoned well, and there was ample cheese and it was more flavorful from the buffalo sauce. The dough itself is crunchy like the Margherita but was a bit softer and had a better cheese pull. I’d rate this as a 7.5/10.

Taglio: Roman style Pizza
Taglio: Roman style Pizza
Tumblr media
Taglio: Roman Style Pizza is a well-known pizzeria on Long Island. It has been rated a top 100 pizzeria in the world by the Italian organization 50 Top Pizza and top 3 in the United States by Time Out Magazine. Located just a two-minute walk from the Mineola LIRR station this popular restaurant is usually filled with families and commuters. But even with a long line during my visit, Taglio was able to provide quick counter service and welcoming faces from the staff. The restaurant claims that their pizza is uniquely Roman. The website states: “Our dough is prepared using a traditional Roman technique. We allow the dough to ferment for 48-72 hours. We use a high percentage of water and a small amount of yeast. Our pizzas bake slow which creates a soft, bubbly inside and crispy bottom. This Roman technique allows our dough to stay light and airy.”

Based on the accolades and reviews received by Taglio, I just had to try their pizza and rate it for myself.

Mushroom
The mushroom pizza appeared a little stale as it was left out for a bit.  There was good amount of mushroom topping and otherwise looked to be a hearty slice.  In terms of its taste, it lacked a prominent sauce as the mushroom flavor dominated other ingredients.  However, the crust was toasted perfectly with the right amount of crunch and smoky flavor, thereby raising the overall impression of the slice.  Rating 6/10.
NY Slice
The NY slice didn’t have a unique appearance and initially it looked very similar to the margherita slice that was next to it. The slice showed the traditional NY slice ingredients including tomato sauce and cheese on top of the crust.  In terms of flavor it was on the “dry” side of taste palette and felt the sauce was lacking in general.  There were sprinkles of what tasted like parmesan cheese, however it felt overwhelming due to the lack of sauce.  The crust however once again was fantastic with the right amount of crunch and smoky flavor.  Rating 6/10.
Margherita
The appearance was very similar to the traditional NY slice and did not initially appear as margherita.  However, you could tell there were definitive different ingredients upon close observation, including sesame seeds sprinkled on the crust along with basil and cherry tomatoes on top.  The balance of sauce to cheese ratio appeared to be optimal on the slice, making it palatable and delicious.  The sauce however could’ve used more flavor.  The crust was fantastic, and this was the best slice of the ones tasted.  Rating 8/10.
