Poppy: Toph, you're 8 months pregnant. You have to rest.
Toph: Lol, you can't give me orders.
Poppy: I can't but Lord Bei Fong can.
Toph: Pff, dad can't-
Lin: *turns her chair dramatically* *puts his granpa's hat on her head*
Lin: I'm Lord Bei Fong and I order you to take a nap, mommy.

Toph: Traitor.

I know we always talk about Catradora's dance at Princess Prom, but Adora's actions in particular absolutely kill me
As the first dance is announced Adora is unwillingly thrust in the middle of the crowd. She seems unsure of what to do, only to turn around and find Catra extending an invitation to dance, much to her apparent shock. Her gaze shifts away from Catra and she looks up and down a bit, probably debating whether to take up the offer, before reluctantly doing so, expression morphing into one of determination.
Tumblr media
As she and Catra circle each other, Adora starts to smile, the kind of smile that gives me an "Alright, two can play this game" vibe. Their hands move from their initial positions towards each other's hips as they continue to circle. Both appear to still be smilling, mischeviously/cockily and determinedly on both parts up until Adora remembers that she should probably act more pissed off than this and her epxression once again changes. She becomes hyperfocused on Catra, to the point where her eyes linger on her as they switch partners.
Tumblr media
They go through different dance partners and finally return to each other, at which point Catra proceeds to make herself comfortable against Adora, while the other girl continues to hyperfocus on her. Oh, look, she even put her hand on Catra's shoulder ( hand which Catra is holding btw ). After that Catra pulls away and prepares to dip Adora while the girl about to be dipped is caught off guard. Once the deed is done she looks mad at first, but then her frowns seems to lessen into an expression of uncertainty.
Tumblr media
That leg of hers sure got comfortable, I don't think it was absolutely necessary for her to raise it that high, but oh well. As for the next part, it's not as easy to notice through photos as it is through a video, but Adora's gaze, initially, doesn't meet Catra's. Her chin in the final screenshot is tilted higher than in the previous one and her pupil is also comparatively lower. She's staring at something under eye-level, Catra's lips most likely.
Tumblr media
Oh, to be a Princess of Power dancing with your chilldhood best friend turned enemy as she dips you, her hands on your back, and you stare at her lips.

i look at ATLA outfits and think "it's so weird that they put the fire nation symbol on so many of their clothes." and then i remember you can go to nearly any store and find at least three articles of american flag clothing literally any time of year

Sleep deprivation and trying to write the next chapter of your fanfic are two things that intermingle more than they should
Like I'm tired but NOW is when my stupid brain decides it wants to write my goddamn story

Please pleas e pl e a se share more of your gaang kids headcannons I love them. And I'm also begging you to elaborate on what Sokka teaches the kids specifically!
yes yes yes anon thank you for the validation™!
sokka and bumi have a really close relationship since bumi is the only non-bender of the group and sokka knows how that feels. bumi, therefore, is the only one who gets boomerang and sword lessons
sokka takes it upon himself to tell izumi all the stupid things zuko did as a teen “he invaded the northern water tribe on his own in the middle of a blizzard?! because he was...stubborn?” “yes, yes he did. now go bully him about it”
he also teaches izumi to yell that she must REGAIN HER HONOR at every opportune moment. zuko is ready to murder sokka about it
kya and bumi both inherit their sense of humour from sokka. they follow katara and aang around spouting bad sokka-style puns. katara swears she’s never leaving tenzin alone with him
sokka is secretly the mastermind behind all bumi’s prank wars. he’s a tactician, after all - let’s be real, he can pull off the best pranks
once, a extremely drunk teenage kya turned up on his doorstep because she knows her parents would be furious if they saw her like that. sokka isn’t exactly happy with her, but he lets her crash there and tells aang and katara she’s okay. her parents never actually find out how drunk she was and kya is always grateful to sokka about it
tenzin tends to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders and sokka is the only one who can get him to lighten up. he teaches him sokka-approved stress relief methods, including but not limited to: singing terrible and foul-mouthed sea shanties at the top of his lungs, getting mani-pedis and learning how to do kyoshi warrior makeup. tenzin still uses them today, leading to an extremely awkward interaction wherein korra catches him painting his toenails
sidenote: katara never forgives him for the time she heard tenzin sing a sea shanty
lin and suyin are the only ones who don’t get taught how to annoy their mother, because sokka can never quite bring himself to be mean to toph.
lin likes listening to his stories. he tells her all about how he planned the invasion on the day of black sun, about how he and zuko broke into the boiling rock prison. he makes a special effort to tell lin stories about how brave and strong her mom is
su gets the best advice from sokka. if she’s feeling low or like she’s not getting enough attention from toph, sokka’s the one she turns to. he always helps her talk through her emotions and is the one who encouraged her to reach out to lin when their relationship became rocky

Chapter 3
(Flash over to korra and Katara training.)
“Keep your arms together, and keep a sturdy stance. Like this.” Katara gives an example while directing. Korra taking a similar stance, gets focused and resights the movements then, *thwip* she whips herself right in the forehead.
“Awwe.” Korra yells in pain. Katara giggles a little.
Katara asked, “are you ok? I did that my first time too.”
“We’ve been working on this for weeks and I still can’t get it. Are you sure that I'm ready for this avatar stuff?” Korra asks worryingly. Katara hesitates for a moment thinking of what to say to her.
“You're still very young Korra. The other avatars were older when they started to learn the elements. Don’t lose hope now. You were chosen for this task, so you will succeed, it just might take a little time.” Korra lightens up a little bit.
“Ok. Let's keep trying, but let's do something a little easier, I think I'm starting to bruss.” The two share a laugh. A few days pass and Korra is still having trouble getting motivated. More problems are starting to pop up, she can bend the element one day but the next she can’t even make a small drop. One day late at night Korra can’t seem to sleep. Curiosity succombs her, she slips out of bed. Slides her moccasins on and exits her hut. She starts to wander around the grounds of the (training camp), nothing seems interesting enough so she leaves the gates. Wandering the terrain in the dark, on her own would usually be scary, but she has not a hint of fear. Being the avatar helps with that. She sees a dark outline of a ship, she’s heard the stories from katara. She knows it's the ship Aang went to when he was here. It’s like it’s calling to her, drawing her close. She can't help it, she finds the gaping hole leading into the ship's bottom floor. Climbing through sharp metal and ice, she arrives on solid ground. She wanders for a little, until arriving at a small room seeming like a cockpit. Almost immediately she feels a rush, definitely a sign of spiritual awakening. She steps in, seeing an ancient fire nation helmet laying on the floor. Suddenly, a white spirit exits her body and forms in front of her. Although Korra has never seen this spirit she knows its name, Raava. Korra gasps and falls to the floor. Raava leans in, and begins her monologue.
“Korra, you know me. I am the light spirit Raava, I embody you and give you the power to bend all the elements. I am here to tell a story. The story of the previous avatar, Aang and his short adventure on this ship, along with all his struggles. He was young, just like you but he faced a very different world, and many different tragedies.
Although he was young and he had lost everything he never lost the hope and the light that he had long before the war. I hope you, just like Avatar Aang, never lose your childlike compassion.”
Korra is still in shock, but she knows it’s time to stand and face Raava as the avatar. Raava recognizes this as a chance to continue the story, she walks through the cockpit, and brings the past spirits of Aang and Katara to light. Korra can see them, the two young children before her. The kids she sees are the same adults who train and mentor her. The images seem so real, Korra reaches out to touch them, to tap Katara's shoulder, but instead her hand sweeps right through the illusion. She gasps and takes a step back. All Korra can do is stare at the kids moving before her, but Raava tells her to listen, to hear the two kids laugh. Raava speaks again, “You see Korra, here are two children standing in a horrifying ship that reminds the whole tribe of death and loss and yet they still have time to giggle because they are only children. Not much older than you.” Korra tilts her head and smiles, this all seems very pure. Raava notices, “Young Avatar, maybe it is better we finish this conversation while you meditate. After all it isn’t safe for a young girl to be wandering out at night in such cold weather. I’ll speak with you tomorrow. Let’s go home.” Raava moves towards Korra again and re-enters her body. Warmth fills her and she knows to follow Raavas directions, even though she has never been much of a rule follower.
Korra arrives home 20 minutes later, goes back to her hut, slides off her boots, and cuddles back in her bed with Naga at her feet.

Chapter two
10 years later…
Aang's Perspective: I have aged 10 years and so have my kids. It is just me on the island. The kids occasionally, Tenzin being the most often, visit me. My youngest boy currently dating Toph’s older daughter is something that I will have to get used to, although it does get Toph to visit the island more. Other than the occasional visitors it will remain just me until Katara returns.
Several years ago we learned that the new avatar is a young water tribe girl from the south named Korra. Katara left to train her in water bending, our daughter Kya alongside her. My eldest son, Bumi, left to join the Fire Nation army. Being a non-bender he says, “I have to give myself a purpose.” I am very proud of him, while he doesn’t always know that. I stayed here to look after the city that we’ve built from the ground up. Recently, there have been smaller issues within our new society that Toph’s Police Force has gracefully handled.
I am extremely grateful for the friendships I made during my youth, for their worth and company has lasted a lifetime. Zuko and Mai are left in the fire nation continuing the repairs of the past. Last I heard from Mai, their daughter Izumi left to travel the world to learn the history of the other nations so she could become a well-cultured firelord. Her son and husband went along with her, teaching Iroh II how to become a leader and master firebender as well. Sokka sends me letters once in a while telling me about what he has accomplished. Sokka, while he is one of Republic City’s most prized ambassadors, returned to the southern water tribe as chief. I miss all my friends dearly, and especially miss my wife Katara. I wonder a lot about how she's doing.
Unlike Sokka, she sends letters once a week, updating me on Korra’s training and on the weekly events. Hearing of Sokka’s success as the chief brings me happiness. I am proud to know that the sarcastic, meathead boy grew into the man that we always knew he would be. Accessing his leadership in the tribe was amazing to hear, his good ideas and funny jokes are sure to help lead the southern water tribe into success. Sokka’s leadership will also help the water tribe become a force to be reckoned with. While I sit in my living room, in my pose, I can’t help but stare at our photo wall. The pictures of my family many years ago, next to the photo of my dear friends, accesses a sudden wave of sadness that covers my body.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I previously had wanted to meditate, but now all I can think of is how lonely I am here. I decide to take Appa to the mainland to visit Toph. Maybe her and I can chat about the city, something to get my mind off of this sadness.
Appa lands on the roof of the police building. I scratch his head and tell him he can return to the island, I still have the bison whistle from many years ago. He grunts and flies away. I descend the stairs to the floor where Toph’s office sits. I see through the glass walls, she’s sitting at her desk, feet up, snoring. This is the Toph I’ve always known. Usually I would knock, but playing a joke on my good friend seems like a better option. I enter silently, closing the door behind me. I send a single gust of air towards her, sending her chair toppling backwards. I hunch over laughing, and her head pops above the desk. It’s the hardest I’ve laughed in a long, long time. She blows her hair with her breath, disappointed. “Twinkletoes, why’d you have to do that?” I still can't stop laughing, some things never change, even that silly nickname.
“Toph, I've said this before, I’m 48 years old. Can’t that nickname be retired?”
“Oh Aang, it will die with me, and that won‘t be for many years. The short answer is no. Too bad.” She laughs. I sigh whilst trying to stop from smiling.
Apparently it shows through, “Twinkletoes, you know you love me.” This time my smile is verbal. I laugh. She walks around the desk to give me her trademark punch on the arm. As she’s leaning back on the edge of her desk to sit she asks, “Why are you here anyway? Usually I'm the one forced to that island off shore.”
My heart rate rises, I don’t want to explain why I’m actually here, but she can tell when I lie. Either way, I bluff. “I just felt like it was my turn to come down to you”. I can tell she saw through me, her face changes.
“Oh c’mon I know you’re lying, why are you really here?”
I can't beat this, it’s Top anyway! She cares enough about me to take this seriously. I know it. “I was feeling down,” I rub my head, “Being alone on that island has been getting to me. I miss my family and my friends. I needed to see you, hoping that we could talk and I could get back to normal.” She stays silent for several moments. I can tell she’s debating on what she wants to say. Then she takes a deep breath and begins.
“Aang, you told me friendships can last more than one lifetime right?”
“Yes? What about it?”
“Well, if it's really possible then you should know that no matter how far our friends go, they’re still close to us.” She lets out a sigh. “Twinkletoes, that was such a struggle, I’m never this supportive.” She giggles and punches me again. I laugh along with her, having her reassurance is something to take advantage of.
Later Toph and I go out for dinner to the best fire nation restaurant in the city. We chat about the future of the police force and about the new avatars' future. By the end I knew my mood had changed. I am, after all, not alone.

Au: where Korra becomes the avatar without Aang dying
25 years after the war
Aang is meditating at air temple island in Republic city
I sit in a small meadow on Air Bender island. I hear the quiet laughter and voices of my three teenage children behind me. A gust of air blows the grass around me and makes the leaves on the trees shake. My head tingles and something tells me to turn around. I swivel my body to face whatever and whoever is behind me. I see no one, must be the spirit world calling me. I take my position, knuckles together with my knees overlapped. I begin my meditation, but before I enter I hear a woman’s voice, but not Katara’s. My eyes pop open and suddenly the avatar spirit herself is standing before me. “Raava!? It's you?” I chuckle, “Nice to physically meet you.” I bow my head in respect, never expecting such a visit from the spirit that embodies me.
Raava nods in return, “Hello Aang, I’m here on serious business. What you couldn’t have known or prevented is coming in 18 years. Vaatu, the dark spirit will return and wreak havoc on this world, unless the next avatar is fully prepared.”
I retract my shoulders and crease my eyebrows. I have to process this. A dark spirit? Havoc? Next Avatar? I’m still alive, right? My breathing goes rigid and short. “I don’t understand, why can't I defeat Vaatu?”
“Aang, you have brought a certain peace to the world that must be maintained. You have done your job as the avatar but it is now time for the next avatar to be trained. You are much too frail, though agile, for your age. It is time for a new generation to bring peace.”
Aang looks down with solidarity. He regains his posture and says, “Raava, although I understand your reasoning for this, I still cannot comprehend why I myself cannot fight him. I ended a 100 year war at 13 years old. Now, as a fully realized avatar and a grown man you are telling me that I no longer will have the power to bend all four elements? Please Raava, let me help the world one more time.” My eyes start to gloss over and a single tear drops down my cheek. Being the Avatar has been part of my life, part of my personality, for as long as I can remember. I left my life as a nomad because of the social pressures and now I fear that I must return to being Aang, not the avatar, just a man, just a monk.
“Aang I understand your feelings. This is a new age and you have done your duty as the avatar, it is time to do your part as a regular man and look after your family. You will always be avatar Aang, that is who you were destined to be, but now return to your roots and become a humble air bender.” The wind blows again and Raava suddenly moves behind me. She tells me to be still, I comply.
I start to feel Raava rear up my back, I close my eyes. A certain tingling goes up my spine and I prepare for the rest of my life as only Aang. I see all of the past avatars lined up next to me, I remember all the moments I would’ve given this away to just have stayed a simple boy. Now I cannot believe this part of my life will be gone. As I see all my past lives, flash past me, as if a dream. Avatar Wan, the first man to merge with Raava, the first avatar, enters my mind. He says, “Aang,” I feel my mouth drop in disbelief. “I passed a millenia ago, but I offer you this wisdom. There are very few avatars who had to face such turmoil as you, you did so with such grace and compassion for others that there is no way this world will forget you. Even after you leave the material world and enter the spirit realm, your memory will live on. The avatar is and was not who you are, it only gave you the power to change the world.”
I feel Raava leave me, and I can only hope that the next avatar is someone who can change the world, just like all the past avatars. I stand, still slightly comprehending what happened in such a short period of time. I return to my family solemnly, and automatically Katara notices something has gone wrong. She leads me to a back room and I tell the daunting tale that I am no longer the avatar. I begin to weep, and she holds me, just like she always has. This— my family— is what will make everything okay. I am not angry, I am grateful.

Several of my friends and I began writing a fanfic that will have multiple parts and chapters. It will be based in a world (AU almost) where ATLA and LOK will be more intertwined. It will have a storyline where instead of Aang dying for Korra to become the next Avatar, he hits a certain age where Raava (the avatar spirit) will leave his body and connect with Korra’s. So while Korra is growing up and Aangs kids become adults, Aang will still be alive. It will give us more of the Kataang fam and more of the gaang as adults in general, with most of their kids hopefully!! I look forward to sharing this piece of writing with my small collection of followers in the future. We have no plan on whether the fanfic will be released all at once when finished or if the chapters will progress, change and be released in order at different times. I hope people love it!

imagine this:
izumi is old enough to walk and talk and ask questions. she's lived with her father (zuko) and her mother (mai) her whole life. she's never acknowledged the scar on Zukos face before but today she notices it in a different way. as if it's never been there. she grabs his hand. "daddy?" zuko kneels to face her.
"yes?" He smiles.
"why is your eye red?" Zuko sighs and looks down. Mai looks slightly shocked at what her daughter just said but doesn't step in. Zuko reaches out for Izumis hand and guides it to touch his scar. Izumis mouth stays wide open.
"woah" she says. Zuko chuckles, he has never felt like his scar was *cool* until now. He thought it was a mark that would leave behind the reputation of guilt and anger, but Izumi only saw her dad.
"Honey, maybe this will be a story for later tonight. Let's feed the turtle ducks first. Yeah?" He nods to the pond. She nods back and smiles as she reaches for Mais hand. Zuko returns to standing. With Izumi holding each of her parents hands, they swing her. The palace courtyard is now only associated with happy endings and good memories.
Later that night Zuko tells the tale ( a slightly less scary version) for a bedtime story. All Izumi can do is sit silently and listen in awe to what her father tells her. Mai lays opposite of Zuko, next to loving Izumi. Mai reaches to hold/rub Zukos hand. All he feels is love. That's all he will feel for the rest of his life with his family by his side.
AND THIS MY FRIENDS IS WHY MAIKO IS THE BEST. I WROTE THIS. AND I KNOW 100% THAT THEY WERE THE BEST PARENTS. SO HA
Also this is just the beginning of what I hope to become better writing in the future. Thanks!

OKAY IMAGINE THIS.
season 4 or new series of atla. the gaang is older. it tells of their new adventures. (we can't animate the comics because it wouldn't be interesting. duh) anyway we keep all the same voice actors because aang can be voiced by an adult and his voice actor is now an ADULT! It would include the birth of kataangs kids all the marriages. (maybe and hopefully not: sukis death) izumis birth! i mean who wouldn't want this. we get to see barely any of it in korra and a little more in the legacy books. this would be way better than a new live action which by the way could become something terrible by the end.
Also we can't make a season four where they're kids cause aangs voice would be different and I don't think i could mentally take it.

MAIKO FOREVER. they made each other feel something. even if it was "i don't hate you" it was feelings. both of the kids had experience some kind of abuse. with zuko it was both mental and physical. physically abused by his father and mentally abused by his sister. but with mai she was abused mentally by her family and in general the royal society. both kids did not know how to handle young love, or any feelings. when they finally figured out how to be comfortable around each other it was big. they learned to trust each other. and although zuko broke mais heart she trusted his intuition and his idea that the fire nation was in the wrong. and after she had saved him he knew he could trust her. and that was something neither of them had experienced. they grew together and transformed together. there is no way zuko could belong with anyone else. and there is no way mai can end up with that idiot in the comics.
