Winter hated biology with every ounce of her being, but she’d make an exception for Beth.

Winter would often watch Beth from across the classroom as she’d doodle something in her sketchbook and adorably stutter over an answer when she would get called on. She tapped her desk as the teacher called for Beth’s attention.

“Miss Rose.” Rose. What a beautiful last name.

“Yes?” And what a beautiful voice.

“Can you answer the question?” Winter prayed that maybe this time she could, just to hear her talk more.

“…no”

She sighed. Of course not. That was okay, though. maybe at some point she will get to hear her soft, perfect voice in complete sentences. Winter was absolutely obsessed with her.

But how the hell can you have a crush on someone you’ve never talked to?

Beth stared down at her phone that was hidden under the desk in biology. She was stalking one of her role models on Tumblr, Colder-than-Logan-Sanders, who also goes by Ice.

“Miss Rose?” The teacher called for the third time, tearing Beth’s attention away from her phone.

“yes?” She gulped

“Can you answer the question?”

“…No”

The class snickered, and the teacher moved onto a different student, but not without giving Beth the stink eye.

Beth returned to her phone. She scrolled through her Tumblr hero’s edits of Patton and Deceit sanders and multi shipping fan fictions. She’s seen her talk to other Tumblr famous blogs before, and from what she’s gathered, she was incredibly funny and adorable. Beth was absolutely obsessed with her.

But how the hell can you have a crush on someone you’ve never talked to?

The teacher cleared his throat and announced that he was going to pair the class up for group projects. There was a collective groan in the room. The teacher began listing names. Winter’s breath hitched.

“Alyssa and Ella” Winter tapped her desk.

“Leaf and Maya” Beth prayed to not get with a free loader.

“Darren and Seya” Winter’s heart raced faster.

“Tony and Kelly” Beth began to fiddle with the corner of her paper.

“Beth and Sarah” Winter used all she had to hold back a disappointed groan.

Beth looked around. Where was Sarah?

“Oh, I forgot,” The teacher spoke, sensing her confusion, “Sarah transferred out last week. Let me make some changes aaaaand…. Beth, you’ll be working with Winter.”

Winter almost fell out of he chair. She silently celebrated as the teacher continued to call out names.

At lunch, Bet approached Winter. “Hey, can I get your number? So we can work out times to work on the project.”

Winter choked down a scream. “Yeah! Sure. Here, you can put it in my phone, and I’ll text you.

Beth nodded, put her number in, and left. Winter made sure to text her first thing when she got home.

Winter: Hey, this is Winter. How do u feel abt meeting in library early tmr morning?

Beth: Hey winter. Yeah that sounds good.

Winter: See ya there.

Winter collapsed on her bed teenage-girl-in-love style holding her phone to her chest. She looked at it again when she received a notification on Tumblr. Someone was messaging her.

Im-a-Small-Lizard: Hey!! I just wanted to let u know that I’ve been admiring your work for a while and that i might have a lil but of a crush on you???

Winter covered her mouth and almost screamed. This was a blog that she had been looking up to for years.

Colder-than-Logan-Sanders: Omg!!! Small! I loveeee your art!!!! It’s so cool that you like my stuff!! And no one has rlly told me that they had a crush on me before lol.

Colder-Than-Logan-Sanders: But I already kinda have my eyes set on someone from my school. Sorry…

Beth groaned. Of course Ice had a life outside of Tumblr. What was she thinking?

Im-a-Small-Lizard: Oh no worries! I just have been thinking about it for a while and felt like I should tell u!

Colder-than-Logan-Sanders: You’re so brave for telling me, though. I could never do something like that.

They talked until midnight before Winter said that she had to go to sleep. Small reluctantly said goodbye.

That night, Winter fell asleep actually excited for the morning.

Beth was not looking forward to the morning. She had to work with some girl she didn’t know, and her crush just rejected and had a pity conversation with her. All she wanted to do was have a day to sulk, but she already promised Winter to meet in the school library in the morning.

She rolled over in her bed trying to fall asleep, but to no avail. She only got sleep two hours before her alarm clock rang for school.

Winter practically skipped into the library. She sat down at a table and took out her phone.

Winter: I’m sitting at the middle table. The one next to the manga books.

Beth: I’ll be there in a sec.

Winter smiled and instinctively went to Tumblr to wait for her.

Beth dragged her feet in, not wanting to be at school so early in the morning. She sat next to Winter and let out a quiet "hi”

Winter looked up from her phone, not wanting to seem too eager. “Oh hey,” she noticed the bags under he eyes, “you look tired”

Beth rubbed her eyes with her fingertips. “Yeah… some shit happened.”

Winter wanted to bring her into a hug and tell her that everything was going to be okay, but instead she looked down and liked a post in Tumblr. “Oh sorry about that.” She waited for a response. When she didn’t get one, she raised her head to face Beth. Her face was in shock.

“You use Tumblr… AND you like Thomas Sanders?”

Winter’s heart swelled. “You like Thomas Sanders too? That’s so cool!”

Beth smiled, causing winter to practically melt, “What’s your url? I want to follow you!”

“It’s kinda a play on my name. Colder-Than-Logan-Sanders.”

Beth froze mid-way pulling her phone from her pocket. “Ice?”

“Oh! You follow me? That’s so cool! What’s your url?”

Beth gulped, “Im-a-Small-Lizard”

Winter froze. A sudden surge of realization and guilt pierced her heart “You’re… the person I talked to last night. Oh no… I’m so sorry-”

“No, no, it’s fine. I get it, sometimes you like other people. Can I just… ask who you really do like?”

Winter fiddled with her phone, “Uhm… well…” She swallowed.

“Actually, forget I asked.” Beth said quickly, regretting her words, “You don’t have to tel-”

“You. I like you.” A weight lifted off of Winter’s shoulders. Half of the work was done.

“Oh… OH.” Beth’s cheeks took on a reddish tone that made Winter’s heart go into overdrive. She looked down and messed with her sleeve. “This is like some romantic comedy level shit.”

“Yeah,” Winter said, letting out an empty laugh.

There was moment of awkward silence.

“So… Work on the project?” Beth asked.

“Yes,” Winter agreed, a little too eagerly.

Somewhere, is the middle of awkwardly working, Winter blurted out something she never thought she’d have the courage to. “Do you want to come to my house tonight?”

Beth was a little surprised at the sudden question, but looked down and smiled. “Yeah,” she stuttered, “I’d like that.”

After that, the bell rang, sending them to 1st period.
