reminder: just because a disabled person has accommodations does not mean they will perform at the same level or have the same capabilities as a non-disabled person! accommodations are there to make life easier for the disabled person, but they don’t erase the fact that we are disabled. as an employer, parent, peer, etc. you must be open to the possibility that a disabled person will be DISABLED by their condition. if you only see accommodations as an excuse to expect the same from a disabled person as you would from a non-disabled person, you are not the ally you think you are

some reminders as we go from queer pride month into disabled pride month:

queer disabled people exist! we're not special rare unicorns collecting shit that "makes us special"

a lot of queer events aren't disability-friendly and a lot of disabled events aren't queer-friendly, sort yourselves out because once again, queer disabled people exist

queer liberation and disabled liberation are connected, you can't have one without the other

queers don't have a monopoly on pride, disabled pride month existing isn't appropriating fuck all from queer people

abled queers: please stop centring yourselves in july by calling it queer pride month 2.0, disabled pride month is already way less visible and you're not helping

the queer community has an ableism problem and the disabled community has a queerantagonism problem, leaving queer disabled people feeling unsafe and unwelcome in either and being stuck in tiny fringe communities

it's not "pride month and disabled pride month". disabled pride month is literally also pride month. june is QUEER pride month. again, queers don't have a monopoly on pride, queer pride is not the default

july is not wrath month, it is pride month

we need to stop equating lack of independence with lack of maturity. people that live with their parents or have a caregiver or don't work or need more support than others aren't inherently immature. there's lots of reasons why people would be in this situation, even outside of disability (plenty of cultures out there expect people to live with their parents past what we consider the beginning of adulthood), and regardless of the reason we deserve support and community through what is already likely to be an isolating experience. don't make it worse for us

Y'all I know that when so-called AI generates ridiculous results it's hilarious and I find it as funny as the next guy but I NEED y'all to remember that every single time an AI answer is generated it uses 5x as much energy as a conventional websearch and burns through 10 ml of water. FOR EVERY ANSWER. Each big llm is equal to 300,000 kiligrams of carbon dioxide emissions.

LLMs are killing the environment, and when we generate answers for the lolz we're still contributing to it.

Stop using it. Stop using it for a.n.y.t.h.i.n.g. We need to kill it.

It's actually really frightening to see officially sanctioned genocide denial rise up in Western countries in real time. Like, I remember 20 years ago hearing about how it was illegal in Turkey to point out that the Armenian Genocide happened, and how I thought that that was fucking evil and oppressive. Now here we are, with a campaign in Gaza that experts have called 'a textbook case of genocide', for which the UN Human Rights counsel has determined there are "reasonable grounds" to call it genocide, and the US Congress is trying to make it illegal to criticize Israel.
