Wife and I ventured back to the states last weekend to visit @sweepy-stringbean and it was loveliest little trip. So many neat things to see and so many laughs with my absolute favourite people. Life just feels right when we’re all together 💚💜🩵

So…uh…we have a cat now 😅 tiny baby was in the woods behind the house and wife fell in love so now she has the kitty she’s been wanting for a while. Kitty loves the dogs and the dogs are all being very good about the tiny lunatic running around the house

Life is crazy sometimes because what do you mean two years ago @sweepy-stringbean was just a ronance artist I followed on twitter and now she’s one of the people I love most in this world? What do you mean I just used to admire her art online and now she’s stayed in my guest room that’s filled with framed prints of that artwork? What do you mean six months ago my wife didn’t even know her at all and now she’s one of her very favourite people too?

Wife and I were lucky enough to have Rae visit us up in Canada land and it was so so good. Many laughs, much silliness, a multitude of elk, and even more pho made for the loveliest time and now the house feels empty without our bestie here. Even the dogs miss her and kept checking the front door and around the house after she left 😭

Look, I realize we’re well past Valentine’s Day now, but god damn, I’m determined to finish this thing. I’ve been fighting in the trenches with myself trying to write this, but I’m 4000 words in and will soldier on until it’s finished 😩 at least I know the storyline now

The change in phone calls was less gradual. They still called each other a few times a week like they always had, but Steve seemed off— distant, like it was a challenge to find things to talk about. The conversations got shorter all the time, and Steve always seemed to have a reason why he had to go. And then Robin found that if she didn’t pick up the phone and call, she just wouldn’t hear from him at all.

She called one evening and Steve didn’t answer, which wasn’t fully uncommon, sometimes he’d be at the high school late grading essays or he’d stop and grab a beer with a work buddy on the way home. What was uncommon, though, was for him not to call her back when he got home and for the answering machine to greet her for a second day in a row.

“I think Steve is mad at me,” Robin said when the phone just rang until she heard Steve’s recorded voice on the third day, too.

How many wips do you have currently?

At this moment, only I Will Remember You. October and November were pretty prolific months for little ol' me with a total of close to 50K words posted between the super dark btvs Normal Again AU, the long distance platonic stobin grown up best friends fic, and the smuttiest thing I've written to date, so I'm kind of taking it easy right now.

Which one are you finding the hardest to finish?

Fecking iwry. I've been working on this sucker for more than a year and a half now but keep getting distracted by smaller side projects. It's been too long since I've worked on it so now I've got to go back and read through it so I don't screw anything up in these last few chapters.

What does it usually look like when inspiration strikes for you?

Like a feral goblin, especially when the idea is for something dark and painful that nobody really wants except me. And then I tell my wife about it and her response is usually just, "why?" 🤣

Usually something will hit while I'm driving and I have to try so damn hard not to forget it before I get home. The idea for the fluffy critter catching fic popped into my head while driving to Brooklyn to see Maya Hawke, so I had an eight hour drive to plot it out in my head and try not to gnaw my arm off from the anticipation of actually getting it written.

Do you curate playlists for each fic or is your process different?

Definitely not. I can't listen to music while writing because I just get distracted by lyrics. Some fics have strong ties to particular songs for particular reasons, but that's about it.

Do you go balls to the wall and write as you go or are you more organized?

I am probably the least organized multi-chapter writer there is. The only fic that's ever even gotten an outline is iwry and clearly I'm not very good at it. The original outline was for 12 chapters and approximately 75K words and I'm currently in chapter 27 with at least one more and the epilogue to go and it'll probably be close to 200K words when it's finally finished. I do have a two page doc of the lore for this fic, though, so at least that's something. Every other project has just been a general idea and then a 'start writing and see where it goes' kind of thing.
