How To Choose Vape Juice?
For new vapers, choosing the right e-juice can be one of, if not the most difficult aspects of vaping. With all the different flavors, nicotine levels, PG/VG levels, and brands, it’s hard to know what the best vape juice really is. We’re of the mind that the best vape juice is the one that keeps you from going back to cigarettes. With that in mind, let’s discuss how to determine what is the best vape juice for you.
How to Choose the Right Vape Juice
With the increase in popularity of vaping in recent years, there are now many options for you to choose from when you begin vaping. Many vape shops have samples of their in-house mixes, as well as a selection of commercially-available brands for you to try. There are a few things you’ll need to consider when choosing the best vape juice for you: flavor, type, and nicotine levels.
1. Know Your Flavors
First things first: know what flavor profiles you enjoy. Even if every other aspect of the juice is perfect, if you don’t like the flavor, you’re not going to use the juice. Luckily, you can choose the best vape flavor from a huge variety: custards, cereals, fruits, food, traditional tobacco, and even cocktails. If you’re just moving to vaping from smoking cigarettes, you could try to mimic your favorite brand with its flavor and work your way into different flavor profiles.
2. Know Your Types
Vape juice is made of either propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerin (VG), or a combination. Each type of juice has its advantages and disadvantages. Blends with more VG tend to produce more vapor, while those that have more PG produce better flavor. A 60% VG and 40% PG blend is usually the best mix for most vapers, as it produces the best balance, but you can always experiment with ratios to find the best blend for you.
3. What about Nicotine?
Unlike cigarettes, one of the best things about vaping is that you can choose the level of nicotine that works best for you. The most common nicotine levels are 0mg, 3mg, 6mg, 12mg, and 18mg, although you can get juice with higher levels if you’re a really, really heavy smoker. For lighter smokers who smoke less than half a pack a day, 3mg should be a good starting point.
4. Now it’s Your Turn
Now it’s time to find the vape juice that’s best for you. We recommend spending some time at a few different vape shops if you can and trying their samples or picking up a few different types and flavors in smaller quantities. In the end, the best vape juice is the one that keeps you vaping and away from cigarettes.

How Long Does Vape Juice Last?
One of the most common questions vapers have is, “How long does e-juice last?” Because it contains food-based ingredients that expire, it’s important to know how long vape juice lasts and that it does have an expiration date. The shelf-life of vape juice depends on the specific ingredients inside any bottle. All juice bottles need to be stored properly in a cool, dark place in order to maximize their lifespans. Most vape juices have a shelf-life of about two years when stored correctly.
How do I know if my e-liquid expired?
Just like checking the food in your refrigerator and knowing the signs of expiration, you should know what to look for when you’re inspecting your e-juice.
Is your e-liquid changing color?
Some e-liquids will change color slightly after being stored, so this usually isn’t a major red flag. The color change occurs due to a chemical reaction known as oxidation, in which the nicotine reacts to oxygen and changes color without usually altering the taste or experience. However, if your e-juice changed color significantly, then you should consider that it may have gone bad.
Is your e-liquid no longer as thick as it used to be?
E-juice thickness varies based on the manufacturer and the amount of PG and VG in the mixture. Blends with higher VG levels are thicker, while those with more PG are thinner. As for e-juice ages, sometimes you’ll find that sediment tends to settle on the bottom of the bottle if it’s not used often. This is common and everything should blend back together once you shake the bottle. If you notice that the sediment doesn’t blend back after shaking, this means the juice is expired and no longer vape-able and leads to a thinner, runnier liquid.
Does your e-liquid smell funny?
If you’re about to get into a bottle of e-juice that is more than a year old and hasn’t been used in a while, the first thing you should do is smell it. If it smells sour, funky, or drastically different than it did when you purchased it or used it last, it’s probably a safer bet to go ahead and throw it away.

How To Fill A Vape Tank?
There are a lot of components that come with vapes, which means a lot more upkeep and maintenance than traditional cigarettes. Filling your tank is one of the things you’ll need to keep up with on a consistent basis. Vaping from an empty tank is no fun—it tastes horrible and can ruin your coils.
Luckily, tank-filling is one of the easier steps to vape maintenance and it shouldn’t take you long to figure out when to refill your vape tank and how. Here we’ll go over a few different ways of filling a vape tank, depending on your device. Vape tanks are either top-fill or bottom-fill. The fill method will change slightly, but either way, the basic concept is still the same: put a few drops of e-liquid onto the coil, fill your tank, and vape!
Filling a top-fill tank
The first step to filling a top-fill tank is to disassemble the tank by unscrewing the airflow base at the bottom of the vaporizer. Once it’s removed, pull the coil out from inside but leave the tank, top connector, and mouthpiece attached. At this point, go ahead and clean out your tank if you’re changing flavors or if it’s been a while since you last cleaned it.
Each coil is different, but most of them contain 4-6 holes along the side. Put a decent-sized drop of e-liquid into each hole in the coil; this helps to preserve the life of the coil. Then fill the tank with e-liquid, leaving a bit of room at the top. The access point for the e-liquid is under the top connector at the top of the tank.
This part can be messy, especially if you’re new to vaping. Be careful when you pour the e-liquid that you don’t pour it into the center of the tank, which acts as the airway and can cause you to inhale the e-liquid in its liquid form. After you’ve filled the tank, reattach it to your device and wait a couple of minutes before vaping again.
Filling a bottom-fill tank
Like the top-fill method, the first step to filling a vape tank is to remove it from the body of your mod, then unscrew the body of the coil from the top of the tank. Prepare your coil by dropping some e-liquid into it as mentioned above, then put the coil back into the tank. Next, unscrew the bottom portion of the atomizer, which allows you access to the tank itself, and fill the tank.
Knowing when and how to fill a vape tank is one of the most basic things you should learn when you get into vaping. To really take your vaping experience to the next level, check out our powerful, popular series of tanks, the SMOK TFV16. This new king tank is equipped with two mesh coils for incredible flavor and vapor and comes fitted with an unprecedented 9ml bulb pyrex glass tube. What Is A Vape Pod System?
We talk all the time about how enjoyable vaping is, especially compared to smoking cigarettes. Unfortunately, there are a couple of hurdles that some ex-smokers face when coming to vaping that ultimately lead to them returning to cigarettes: cheap vapes pens are inefficient, die easily, and don’t provide the nicotine smokers are used to, and many box mods are more complex and require more maintenance than they want to deal with. Enter the pod system vape, a middle ground between cigarettes and complex vape systems.
What Is Vape Pod System?
Pods are ultra-portable systems that allow you to get into vaping without getting too much into all the maintenance of box mods. They’re a step up from e-cigs and pen vapes but still offer that compact feeling with much higher nicotine hit to satiate your cravings. The main difference between traditional atomizers and pod system vapes is that the pods are equipped with replaceable cartridges that contain the coil, wick, and e-juice.
The Advantages of A Vape Pod System
1. The Broader Appeal
Pod systems appeal to a massive variety of vapers and those trying to switch to vaping. They’re incredibly easy to use and often come pre-filled with quality e-juices that cheaper e-cigs don’t have. Plus, they’re super portable, so they’re also great for vapers with box mods who need a more compact option for traveling.
2. Stronger Nicotine Hit
Cheaper convenience store e-cigs don’t usually offer that satisfying nicotine hit that keeps smokers away from cigarettes. Most pod systems come pre-filled or are compatible with high-nicotine e-liquids and work with sub-ohm coils to provide for an incredibly satisfying hit. Additionally, pods often use a delivery method that allows for high concentrations of nicotine (even up to 50mg!) known as nicotine salts.
3. Leak-Proof
A leaky tank is the bane of many a vaper’s existences. This happens when the cap loosens up or e-juice seeps through an opening in the tank or mouthpiece. Pod systems are pre-built and use disposable cartridges, so you don’t have to hassle with juice refills or leaky tanks using them. Simply carry a spare cartridge with you—which is much easier than an e-juice bottle—and swap them out when you’re ready.
For a mess-free, portable entry into SMOK’s pod system vaping, try our SMOK Novo 2 Kit, which features a 2ml cartridge capacity and an output of 6W-25W for a satisfying hit.

What is Vaping and How to Vape
Considered a healthier alternative to smoking cigarettes, vaping is quickly winning over many smokers and ex-smokers alike. It’s no secret that proper vaping can take a bit of research and learning, even for people who’ve been long-time smokers. E-cigarettes, or vapes, were designed with ex-smokers in mind. Their purpose was to deliver inhaled nicotine, like cigarettes, but without the tobacco and nasty chemicals.
What is vaping?
The act of vaping itself is the inhaling of vapor from an e-cigarette or other vaping devices, which is typically battery-powered and has a cartridge filled with a flavored liquid containing nicotine. When activated, the vape turns the liquid, or e-liquid, into a vapor that is then inhaled.
What do you need to start vaping?
We always recommend doing your research independently or within a vape shop to get the best fit for you, especially if you’re joining the vaping community as an ex-smoker.
Types of devices
When you start shopping for your device, you’ll come across three main categories of e-cigarettes: disposables, pen mods, box mods, and mechanical mods.
1. Disposable e-cigs
Disposable e-cigarettes are the cheapest, easiest, and most widely available vaping devices. These are roughly the same size as cigarettes and are usually the first types of vapes smokers choose to try. They’re either all-in-one units that are disposed of when dead, or units that have replaceable cartridge tips that contain e-juice, the wick, and a heating element. While they’re cheap and convenient, they are also pretty weak on vapor and the batteries don’t last very long.
2. Pen mods
Pen mods are made up of the same basic components as disposables but are usually larger and feature swappable components, such as tanks, coils, and tips. Pen mods are more powerful than disposables and produce more vapor and flavor. They also are rechargeable and usually take a USB cord rather than insertable batteries.
3. Box mods
Like pen mods, box mods give you the option to customize your device by changing the tank, coil, and other hardware. They’re larger than disposables and pen-style devices, but they contain a large battery (or multiple batteries) and additional wiring and circuitry to make for a more powerful hit. In addition to more powerful hits, they also typically come with a variety of more advanced features than the more basic devices, such as displays and the ability to change your temperature and wattage. Box mods tend to be much more expensive and require regular maintenance.
For those looking to get into vaping but not sure where to start, we recommend checking out our beginner-friendly Smok mods and kits. Each kit is different so you can create your own vaping experience, from convenient vape pens, such as our Vape Pen 22 kit, to our battery-free G-Priv 2 kit, featuring a full touch screen. Once you’ve chosen your mod, it’s time to choose your other components. We have a massive collection of Smok tanks, pods, and coils for you to choose from, such as the popular and lightweight TFV16 Lite Tank.
Replaceable Components
In addition to the mod, there are several other components you’ll need before you can complete your vape setups, such as your atomizer and a tank for your e-juice. You’ll need to know what kind of vaping experience you’re looking for and which components work with your specific mod.
1. Sub-ohm tanks
Sub-ohm tanks are the most popular option for all-in-one vaping and fit many of the beginner-friendly mods commercially available. They screw directly into the vape unit and contain a replaceable coil unit filled with a cotton wick. The tank is filled with juice that soaks through the coil unit and into the wick, then comes through the mouthpiece as vapor. Sub-ohms are convenient and easy to use, and also tend to produce a large amount of vapor and flavor.
2. Coils
Coils are easy to find in any vape shop or online store and are very affordable. You’ll need to switch them out every few weeks, depending on the amount you vape, so it’s a good idea to keep a few on hand. They’re typically categorized by the type of metal they’re made with, such as steel, nickel, and titanium. Each type of coil has a standard temperature and wattage range they can be used with, so it’s important to know exactly which coil you need for your device.
3. Batteries
Most mods come with the ability to swap out batteries rather than needing to plug the unit into charge. The most popular type of battery for vaping is the 18650, which needs to be purchased at a vape shop or online store.
4. E-juice
This tends to be the most difficult decision for beginners because there are literally thousands of flavors and options to choose from. We recommend sampling some flavors to see which you like best, and then determining the level of nicotine you’ll need based on your previous smoking habits.
Nicotine levels: The most common nicotine strengths are 3mg, 6mg, 12mg, and 18mg, but some manufacturers do produce higher strengths.
0mg nicotine levels are, of course, nicotine-free juices. These are good for nonsmokers who don’t need nicotine.
3mg nicotine levels are for light smokers who want to try vaping or for those trying to ease their nicotine consumption and are the lowest levels available before going nicotine-free.
6mg nicotine levels are the typical starting point for regular smokers and are one of the most popular nicotine levels.
12mg nicotine levels are made for heavier smokers and give a harsher throat hit, so it’s typically not recommended for first-time vapers.
18mg nicotine levels are for chain smokers who need a lot of nicotine but tend to result in less flavor overall.
How to vape
Now that you know what vaping is and what to look for in terms of hardware, let’s get to the fun stuff: how to start vaping.
If you’re coming to the vaping community as an ex-smoker, you’re probably accustomed to taking a quick, short drag and possibly even chain-smoking. With vaping, you’ll need to learn to take long, slow draws and allow time between hits for the device to cool down.
Before your first draw, you should warm up your coil by quickly inhaling into the mouth of the vape. This is called a “primer puff” and allows your coil to warm up to temperature before taking the full heat from the battery.
As we mentioned, learn to take long, slow draws from your vape rather than quick, short ones. Take the vapor into your mouth, hold it for three to five seconds, and then inhale it into your lungs. Unlike tobacco cigarettes, the nicotine from vaping can be absorbed into your body via mucous membranes in your mouth and nose, in addition to via your lungs.
With tobacco cigarettes, the nicotine usually hits you within the first eight or so seconds after the inhale. With e-cigarettes, however, absorption occurs more slowly and can take up to thirty seconds for you to feel the effects. Although it takes a bit longer, it’s easy to get used to after a few hits.
And that’s it! You’re now ready to begin your vaping journey. For more information on vaping and to view our full line of vaping devices and accessories, check out our website or visit a Smok authorized retailer near you.

How to Blow O’s and Do Other Vape Tricks
Once you’ve gotten into the basics of vaping and have your setup complete, you might want to start taking things to the next level: vape tricks. These are a huge hit at vaping conventions and contests, but they’re nothing new. As long as people have been smoking, they’ve been performing tricks with their smoke, from basic smoke rings, or O’s, to more advanced tricks, such as the Jellyfish. We’ve compiled a pretty comprehensive list of tips and tricks to take your vaping skills up a notch.
How to blow O’s
This is probably the most basic of vape tricks and is the first one vapers tend to master. These rings are formed when you inhale vapor, form your mouth into an “O” shape, and then “cough” out the vapor bit by bit.
Step 1: Mouth Shape and Lip Formation. Just having your mouth in the shape of an “O” isn’t going to do the trick. You have to keep your lips tightened and pushed back toward your teeth rather than pursed outward. You’ll need to practice to get not only the correct force, but the right amount of “O” shape to properly create the rings. Size matters here, too. If your lips are opened too wide or not wide enough, the vapor will just come out in a stream as it does when you normally exhale. To find the best size for your mouth, open it as wide as you can while still keeping that “O” shape, and then take that size down by half.
Step 2: Tongue Placement. This is a crucial step that many people don’t consider when trying to make O’s. To start, bend the tip of your tongue downward and press down with a decent amount of force. While still pressing down, move your tongue toward the back of your throat. Your tongue should look almost like an upside down “U” at this point.
Step 3: The Cough Method. Rather than simply exhaling the vapor, “coughing” it out is a much more effective way to make good, solid O’s. Once your mouth and tongue are in place, cough very lightly using your throat and vocal cords, making a soft “uh” sound with your throat.
Easy vape tricks for beginners
Once you’ve gotten down the basic motions of O’s, practice, practice, practice! The more you practice, the sooner you’ll have this trick down and can move on to the next ones. Here are some more vape tricks that are relatively easy for beginners to master:
1. Colored vape smoke. If you’re handy with digital effects tools, this one’s for you. It’s technically not a trick, but it’s a great enhancement for vape trick videos. There are also mods available commercially that contain LED lights to color your vape clouds.
2. Ghost Inhale. This trick is also known as the “snap inhale” or “mushroom cloud” and is another super easy trick to learn. To do it, simply take a long drag from your vape and hold it in your mouth for a few seconds without inhaling, then push all the vapor out of your mouth at once in a ball and quickly inhale it back in.
3. The Dragon. Look super ferocious with this easy trick. To do so, take a long drag but don’t inhale the vapor. Once your mouth is full, exhale the vape forcefully through your nose and each side of your mouth while keeping the center portion of your mouth closed.
4. The Smoke Waterfall. This trick is also known as “Liquid Mist” and requires a bit of preparation beforehand. Grab a bottle with a bit of ice in the bottom of it, then take a hit from your vape. Slowly exhale the vapor into the bottle, then turn it upside down and pour out the vapor. The ice at the bottom of the bottle slows down the vapor molecules, turning it into a heavier substance that pours out like a slow waterfall.
5. Vape Bubbles. This trick is also prop-based, so you’ll need to have your props ready before attempting. Cut the bottom off a plastic bottle and make a bubble solution of hand soap and water in a bowl. Dip the cut end of the bottle into the solution, take a hit from your vape, and slowly exhale through the mouth of the bottle to create a bubble filled with vapor.
Vape tricks for advanced users
After you feel comfortable with the more basic tricks, you can start working your way through the more advanced ones. These can take several months to master, so don’t get frustrated if you don’t learn these as easily as you may have learned the basic tricks.
1.The Tornado. As you probably guessed from the name, this trick involves whirling a flat pool of vapor into a tornado-like structure. Take a hit from your vape and then carefully and slowly exhale the vapor onto a flat surface such as a table. Don’t exhale with a lot of force as the pool needs to be as thick and still as you can make it. Then chop at the surface of the pool with your hand, flicking your wrist up and lifting your arm in one movement.
2. French Inhale. This move is also known as the “Irish Waterfall” and was made famous by rappers Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa. To begin, take a hit but don’t inhale the vapor. Let it settle in your mouth and then slowly open your mouth, stick out your bottom jaw, and let the vapor flow out naturally while inhaling through your nose.
3. Bane Inhale. Yes, by Bane we mean the Batman villain. This is an alternate take on the French Inhale that mimics the mask worn by Bane. Set up the trick just as you would to do the French inhale, but place your top row of teeth on your bottom lip to form small gaps. As the vapor floats out from your mouth, inhale through your nose quickly to produce the best results.
4. Bull Rings. This trick requires quite a bit of practice and precision. First, blow a thick O (you’ve mastered this one, right?) and lean into it, inhaling through your nostrils to bring the top part of the O through your nose. This creates the illusion of you “wearing” the O, and is doubly impressive if you already have a septum piercing!
5. The Jellyfish. Also known as the “Atomic Bomb” and “Force Field,” this trick is a huge crowd-pleaser and is also one of the most difficult tricks to learn. First, blow a large O and immediately place your hand, palm forward, behind it and push gently and slowly down the O. Gently exhale a stream of vapor through the center of the ring (like you did with the Ghost Inhale). This stream should pull the O around it, leaving a trail that looks like a jellyfish.
Although some of these vape tricks are seriously advanced and all of them require practice to get right every time, it’s a great way to enhance your vaping experience and find a fun new hobby. Aside from lots of practice and good lungs, your vape is a huge part of the success of your tricks. If you’re wanting to step up your vaping game and add some skills to your repertoire, we recommend starting with our Smok TFV16 Lite Tank and G-PRIV3 Kit.
The G-Priv3 Kit can deliver up to 230 watts of power and comes with our newly-designed TFV16 Lite Tank, which features two new mesh coils. Together they create the perfect blend of power and pleasant vaping to practice all the tricks you want. Why Does My Vape Taste Burnt?
Taking a hit from your vape and getting a nasty, burnt taste is one of the worst things you can experience as a vaper. Vape tastes burnt or Vape pen tastes burnt are terrible, like charred paper, and it burns from your tongue all the way down into your lungs. This can cause you to choke, cough, or even vomit if it’s bad enough. Although it’ll feel pretty bad for a few minutes, you’re going to want to take the time to fix the problem, which is luckily a pretty easy fix.
The reason of why does my vape taste burnt that is the wick inside the atomizer coil of your vape dried out and then burned when it was heated again. The wick is the cotton part of the vape that soaks up the e-liquid, then holds it until it’s vaporized by the heat. If the wick isn’t fully saturated when you heat it up to take a hit, it’ll char and cause a foul, burnt taste when you inhale. This is called a “dry hit” and has three main causes.
Chain Vaping
Chain vaping is the process of taking several hits in a row without taking pauses. Without the chance to absorb more fluid between hits, the wick ends up drying out and burning on the hit. Many vapers, especially ex-smokers, tend to take frequent, short hits in succession like they would with cigarettes. If this is something you do that frequently causes dry hits, take a little more time in between.
Not priming your coil
Have you recently replaced your coil only to notice the nasty taste of a dry hit after a puff or two? It’s annoying, and it happens to everyone once or twice when they first start vaping. This happens when the coil isn’t properly primed before vaping. Priming your coil—soaking ir with the e-liquid prior to vaping— allows it to get ready to burn at the high temperatures required to create the vapor without burning.
Vaping when you’re low on juice
Like running your car to empty, running your tank too low and vaping can create some problems. Vaping when you’re low on juice can cause the coil to overheat the wick. Not only does this create a nasty, painful vape, it can also ruin your coils quicker than usual. Remember to always fill your tank fully before vaping, and don’t vape the juice to the bottom of the tank.
Are you looking to upgrade your vaping experience? Our TFV8 Baby Big Family of coils can help you take your vape game to new levels. Choose from more than 20 coil options based on your specific vaping needs, whether that’s pure, smooth flavor or huge clouds. Why Is My Vape Popping?
If you’re a new vaper, it can be intimidating or even a bit scary when you go to take a hit and your vape popping. Even worse, the feeling of the dreaded spit back—when hot, unvaporized liquid pops up into your mouth. Although these can be a normal part of the vaping experience, they can sometimes mean there’s an issue with your vaping device.
When you take a hit from your vape, the e-liquid heats up and vaporizes and you’ll often hear this as a series of small, mild popping sounds. If you notice these sounds becoming louder or find that the noise is changing, this is when you’ll want to check out your vape. There are quite a few reasons e-liquid may pop, but there are three main reasons for why is my vape popping.
Low wattage setting
Inhaling from your vape brings air into the tank, and the wick pulls e-liquid to the coil. Having your device set to a low wattage causes it to take longer for the e-liquid to vaporize, allowing it to get into the atomizer chamber before the coil can fully vaporize the e-liquid. If you experience popping and spit back often, try to increase the wattage of your vape so that the e-liquid doesn’t flood the chamber.
Using the wrong e-liquid
E-liquids are made using a mixture of two bases: vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol. E-liquids that use higher concentrations of propylene glycol have a thinner consistency and vaporize at lower temperatures. Using these types of e-liquids with tanks that use higher temperatures, such as sub-ohms, allows the thin e-liquid to flood the chamber. If you think this might be the case, simply try swapping out your liquid with a thicker one containing more vegetable glycerin.
Twisted or braided coil
Some vaping devices use coils that are twisted or braided, giving them more space for the e-liquid to seep through for vaporization. However, if you braid your coils yourself, they may not be tight enough, which can lead to louder and more intense popping and spit back. Be sure to twist them extra tightly to avoid this. If you purchase pre-made coils, then you may try opting for a different type.
If you’re looking to enhance your vaping experience and thinking of opting for a new coil, take a look at our Tfv12 Big Family of coils. Our Tfv12 line has something for just about every vaping experience, whether you’re looking for smooth hits, pure flavor, or huge cloud expression. Check them out on our site or at a SMOK authorized retailer near you.

What is RBA (RTA&RDA) Vaping?
What is RBA?
Advanced vapers often get bored relying on pre-made, standard vapes and want to venture into building their own. Re-Buildable Atomizers, or RBAs, are advanced devices with decks for which users can create and install their own coils and wicks, or “builds.” The term RBA can refer to either the removable decks in vape tanks or to any atomizer that has a build deck, and falls into four categories: Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer, Rebuildable Dripping Tank Atomizer, Rebuildable Tank Atomizer, and genesis.
RBA heads work with sub-ohm tanks and clearomizers, taking the place of factory-made coil heads and allowing the vaper to take control over their own builds. They’re removable and replaceable like any normal coil heads, but they have to be used with specific tanks, as most tanks don’t have an RBA head. Tanks that do come with RBA heads are a great entry-point to custom builds and allow vapers to grow their building experience. The two main types of RBAs are Rebuildable Dripping Atomizers, or RDAs, and Rebuildable Tank Atomizers, or RTAs.
RDA and RTA Vaping
RDA vaping requires the vaper to manually add e-liquid directly onto the coil and wick, rather than feeding it through the tank as would be done in standard commercial devices. RDAs have a well at the bottom of the build deck that holds the e-liquid, and the wick tails are placed into the well to soak up the fluid. Because the wells don’t hold as much as standard tanks, you’ll need to refill them more often to prevent the wicks from drying and burning. Because of their manual nature and the need for increased amounts of refills, RDAs are less convenient than most tanks unless they’re used with a squonk mod, which allows for e-liquid to be fed through a small window in the mod.
RTA vaping technically includes any kind of rebuildable tank but has stuck with a particular build system as new ones are created. RTAs have a deck that sits either under or in the middle of the tank, with a chimney and bell system extending up to the drip tip. These chimney and bell systems are key features of the RTA build that make it stand out from the others. The bell surrounds and encloses the deck and is sealed off from the juice, creating a vacuum within the tank that feeds the wick. This leads to a much more efficient wicking system and is especially good for higher power vaping, while the chimney creates a concentrated vapor stream, increasing vape flavor.
SMOK V12 Prince RBA Core

What’s A Drip Tip and How Do I Use One?
When it comes to the vaping industry, new and innovative achievements are constantly focused around more advanced devices, bigger screens, or better settings. One of the simplest designs, though, can drastically improve your vaping experience just as much as the others. This piece is known as the drip tip, or mouthpiece, which turns any standard vape into a dripping device.
What is a Vape Drip Tip
The drip tip is a small, hollow mouthpiece that’s used as an alternative to cartridges and cartomizers, two common vape features. Rather than needing to remove anything to fill your tank, you can pour the e-liquid directly into it via the tip. Most quality drip tips are made of stainless steel, Pyrex glass, or ceramic, but you can also find less expensive and lower quality plastic pieces.
Despite their basic design, drip tips need a bit of familiarity with vaping but don’t require as much expertise as dripping or squonking. That’s why drip tips are a great choice for beginners to dripping who want to learn more. Before you begin, there are some things you should know about how they work and how to care for them.
How to Use Your Drip Tip
Because it’s a step down from conventional dripping, using a drip tip is pretty easy. First, place the drip tip over your atomizer to create a channel from the wick in the coil directly to the mouthpiece. Then drip a small amount of your e-liquid through the opening in the mouthpiece, ensuring that the coil is fully saturated. If you don’t add enough juice, you end up burning the wick, which causes a nasty taste upon vaping and can ruin the coil. Add too much juice, and you can have a messy overflow on your hands.
It’s also important to know enough about the type of coil you’re using when dripping. Coils vary in terms of design and thickness, which directly impacts the amount of liquid needed and the rate at which the wick saturates. It can take some time to get this all right, but you’ll eventually figure out the right balance and it’ll become second nature.
How to Take Care of Your Drip Tip
Drip tips are individual pieces of material, which makes them really easy to clean. This is good because keeping them clean is essential for a good vaping experience. Drip tips are pretty open to the world and can get pretty dirty pretty quickly. Just about everything that touches the tip leaves something behind—saliva, skin, food particles, e-liquid, lint. All of this ends up sticking to the drip tip, which ends up both in the e-liquid and back in your mouth when you vape. It’s a good idea to clean your drip tip frequently by running it under warm water and drying it with a cloth or just letting it sit out for a bit. If it’s been a minute since you’ve last cleaned it, some of the gunk can cause buildup in the tip, which may require isopropyl alcohol followed by a warm water rinse.

When and How to Change the Vape Coil

You’ve purchased your new vape and you’ve been happily puffing away for a few weeks. But now you’re starting to notice a foul, burnt taste to your hits. This is definitely not what you envisioned when you purchased your tasty e-juice. So, what’s going on? The answer (and, luckily, the solution) is simple. Your vape coil needs to be changed!
On average, vapers need to change their vape coils every 1-2 weeks. The actual time between coil changes can vary depending on your vape wattage, how often you hit, and even the type of e-juice you’re using. Luckily, changing the coil is super simple and isn’t very time consuming.
Step 1: Expose the coil
Unscrew the tank from the body of the vape to expose the coil in the center. Then remove the top portion of the tank from the bottom to open the tank and expose the coil. This is easiest to do when the tank is dry, but you can use a paper towel to minimize the mess and avoid getting juice on your hands.
Step 2: Empty the tank
If you still have juice in your tank, go ahead and dump it out into the trash can. It’s best practice to replace the coil with as little old juice as possible in the tank. This is also a good time to go ahead and clean your tank and drip tip while you’re at it!
Step 3: Unscrew the coil
The coil is the metal and cotton piece at the center of the tank, also known as an “atomizer head.” Depending on your device, this may be attached to the top or bottom portion of your tank. Twist the coil counterclockwise until it comes off. Using a bit of paper towel can help to keep your hands clean and prevent slippage when grasping the coil. And that’s it! You’re now ready to install and prime your new coil.

What Is Temp Control Vaping?

Do you often go to hit your vape only to be left coughing, with a terrible taste in your mouth, even though you swear you just changed the coil in your vape not too long ago? If this is a common occurrence for you, you may be burning the wick in your coil faster than you should. The most common cause of this is an incorrect temperature setting on your vape.
Limiting the temperature on your vape is an easy way to extend the life of your coil as well as the time you get to enjoy your vaping experience. This is done via Temperature Control Vaping.
What is Temperature Control Vaping?
If you have a device with this feature, you can use the Temperature Control (TC) to pre-set a temperature value as the high limit for your coil. When set, the TC monitors your coil and adjusts, restricts, or simply cuts off power to the coil until the temperature has lowered. This feature can drastically improve your vape’s battery life and coil lifespan and offers more consistent flavor and vapor.
Temperature control setup and use
If you’ve never really experimented with modifying devices, setup can be a bit scary at first. But trust us, it’s not that bad! The first thing to do is to find out the type of metal your coil is built from: nickel, stainless steel, or titanium. Your TC device may have a single TC mode that works with any coil or it may need to be set to your specific coil type. Once you’ve set that, lock in your room temperature. This gives the device information needed to set the baseline for your highest temp point.
To start vaping with your TC device, just attach the tank to your mod and select the appropriate profile for the type of coil you have, then lock the resistance at room temperature according to your device manufacturer’s recommendations. Finally, set your desired temperature and enjoy! We always recommend starting low with your temperature and working your way up to find your sweet spot. The ideal temperature will vary depending on your personal taste and the PG/VG blend of juice you’re using.
If you’re looking to enhance your vaping experience and also try out Temperature Control Vaping, check out our MAG P3 Kit! This kit continues our classic MAG series and is now waterproof, dustproof, and shockproof. It also features the Temperature Control Mode, made easy to adjust with the super-responsive, impressively-sized 1.9” HD touch screen for easy operation. Jump into TC vaping with this all-in-one kit that makes it easy to set up and use. Learn more at our site or visit an authorized SMOK retailer near you.

5 Tips for Vape Battery Safety
Vape batteries are not like your standard AA or AAA batteries. Regulated mods that are battery-powered use 18650s or 20700s that are much more powerful and need to be handled carefully. Here are 5 of our top tips for vape battery safety.
Keep battery wraps intact
The wrapper on the vape batteries is there to protect them from metal-to-metal contact, which can trigger malfunctions and explosions. Before placing your batteries into your vape, always double-check that the wrappers are in pristine condition. Take a look at each side, and especially around the top and bottom of the batteries. If you notice a nick or tear in the wrapper, it’s time to re-wrap it. You can do so yourself, or visit your local vape shop, as most of them will re-wrap your batteries at no cost.
Use battery cases
When traveling with spare batteries, always store them in designated battery cases. They should never be left haphazardly in pockets or bags. Incorrect storage can cause batteries to come into contact with other batteries or metal objects within the pocket, which can cause them to short circuit and potentially explode.
Use a dedicated charger
Many mods these days have charging ports directly in the body. However, if you have removable batteries, it’s a better idea to use a dedicated battery charger. Basic battery chargers allow your batteries to properly charge. More advanced chargers provide extras such as battery data and health monitoring.
Use married batteries
When using a mod that requires more than one battery, you should always marry the batteries that go together. For instance, if your device requires two batteries, always keep those two together and charge them together. This keeps them charging and discharging at the same rate, helping to minimize the chances of capacity and performance imbalance.
Replace the batteries in your vape if they get damaged or wet
Finally, we all know that electronics and water don’t mix well. The same goes for your vape batteries. Damaged or wet batteries have a significantly increased chance of malfunction and explosion. If you notice any dings or scratches on your batteries or believe they may have gotten wet, you should dispose of them immediately and replace them with new ones.

5 Easy Steps to Clean Your Tank
Aside from pens and e-cigs, most modern vaping devices are designed with a reusable, removable tank system that holds the e-juice you vape. The tank systems regularly contain the chamber (the tank), which holds the juice, and the coil, which heats the juice. Just like the rest of your device, the tank requires regular maintenance in order to perform its best and prevent damage.
Tank maintenance is simple: you need to keep it clean! It’s best practice to clean the tank between e-juice flavors or when changing the coil. Plus, it doesn’t take too long!
1. Disassemble your device
Remove the mouthpiece (also called a drip tip) and remove the tank system from the battery. Disassemble the tank system by removing the top and bottom, and then discarding any e-juice in the chamber. Try to disassemble the tank system as much as possible, and take care to remember where each piece goes.
2. Run warm water through the tank
Using very warm water from a faucet with a fairly powerful streamflow, hold the tank under running water for about 20 seconds. This helps to rinse away residual juice, and is usually enough if you clean your tank regularly and don’t allow e-juice deposits to form.
3. Pull a paper towel through the tank
Twist a paper towel or small microfiber towel at the corner and insert it into one end of the tank. Continue twisting the material, pulling it back and forth through the tank to dry any residual water.
4. Clean the rest of the tank system
Fill a bowl with warm water and place the pieces you’ve removed from the tank into it, soaking them for a few minutes. After soaking, use a small microfiber towel or toothbrush to wash the pieces individually, especially those with small nooks and crannies or threading.
5. Air dry for ten minutes
Because juice and water don’t mix well, this step is very important. Even after drying your tank and components with a towel, water droplets are probably still there. Allow the tank and components to air dry for at least ten minutes, but do not apply heat, as this can weaken or damage the components.

Two Main Ingredients of Vaping E-liquid: VG and PG
Vaping terminology can be a bit confusing to vaping newcomers. Even those who’ve been in the game for a bit may have trouble remembering everything there is to know. Two terms you should become familiar with are PG and VG. These are the two main base components of all e-juices.
What exactly is PG?
Propylene glycol(PG) is an odorless, colorless chemical that is the most popular of the two fluids as it provides more of a “throat hit,” something many ex-smokers are looking for. PG has a lower density, which allows you to go a bit longer between coil changes, and it holds flavor better than VG. However, it’s been known to have a larger incidence of allergic reactions, varying from dry mouth to tingling sensations in the throat.
What exactly is VG?
Vegetable glycerin (VG) is thicker than propylene glycol, so it tends to require more cleaning and tank maintenance. VG by itself has a slightly sweet taste that it lends to the overall flavor of the e-juice. Although it’s less allergenic than PG, VG has been known to cause phlegm buildup in the throats of some vapers. The throat hit sensation is considerably less with VG, but many vapers find it to be smoother despite the lesser throat hit and tend to appreciate the additional vapor production.
How Do I Choose Between PG and VG E-juice?
The decision will ultimately depend on your sensitivities, your device, and what you’re looking for in your vaping experience. You also don’t have to choose one or the other. For instance, many e-juices use a combination of the two, such as 70% VG and 30% PG, which is the optimum ratio to provide a decent throat hit while preserving flavor and vapor production.
Consider the following when looking for a PG/VG ratio:
1. Do you want a better throat hit or more vapor? For an optimal throat hit, go for a higher PG juice. For more vapor, choose a juice with higher VG.
2. Do you want to keep your vaping on the DL in public? E-juices with higher PG content produce less vapor upon exhale and are better for vapers who want to keep their vapor to a minimum in public places.
3. What flavor of juice do you prefer? Tobacco, fruity, or beverage flavors do better with more PG, whereas custards, yogurts, or cream flavors work well with higher VG contents.

What is E-Liquid?
What’s a good vaping experience without flavorful e-liquid? E-liquid is the fluid that fuels vaping devices and provides the nicotine and flavor to the whole experience. This liquid, commonly called e-liquid, e-juice, and vape liquid is converted into vapor and inhaled. There are different liquid makeups, depending on your specific needs.
What’s in e-liquid?
There are four main ingredients used in e-liquid production: Propylene Glycol (PG), Vegetable Glycerin (VG), nicotine, and flavor. PG and VG account for the majority of the liquid base, while 8-10% of the liquid contains nicotine and flavoring. Depending on your device and vaping style, your e-liquid may consist of a VG/PG ratio, or just one or the other. The nicotine amount can also vary as some e-liquids are nicotine-free, while others have a high nicotine content for those who were heavy smokers.
What makes an e-liquid healthy?
It’s important to note that e-liquids are not all created equal. Different companies use different quality ingredients, so it’s important to do your research on the brands you are considering purchasing:
1. PG vs. VG: Vegetable Glycerin is largely believed to be safer than Propylene Glycol to inhale. Most e-liquids contain both, but if health is a concern of yours, you can opt for an e-liquid with a higher VG ratio.
2. Flavor: Most companies use food-grade flavors for their e-liquids, but quality can differ from company to company. Look for e-liquids that contain only high-quality ingredients for a healthier, more satisfying vaping experience. The vape specialists at your local stores should have a rundown of the ingredients and quality of e-liquids they sell.
3. Nicotine Content: Finally, most e-liquids contain nicotine. Although it’s healthier than smoking cigarettes, nicotine levels in e-liquid have an impact on the overall healthfulness of the e-liquid. If you don’t smoke and don’t need the nicotine, you can ask the store to recommend e-liquid that doesn’t contain any.
The right e-liquid can almost make or break the vaping experience—and possibly your device! Be sure you’re getting the right juice makeup for your needs and the type of device you’re using. If you aren’t sure what type of device you’ll be using, check out some of our devices, such as the SMOK RPM40. This vape combines both box mods and pod devices. Mouth-to-Lung Vaping vs. Direct-to-Lung Vaping
Most people who are considering switching from cigarettes to vaping look at the different types of devices, e-liquid flavors and nicotine levels, and vape styles. When you’re in this research phase, you’ll probably start hearing about the two methods of vaping: mouth-to-lung (MTL) and direct-to-lung (DTL). MTL and DTL vaping methods are often thrown at new vapers, so we’re going to break them down for you.
What is Mouth-to-Lung Vaping?
Mouth-to-Lung is the method ex-smokers are accustomed to. It involves inhaling the vapor into your mouth and holding it there, then inhaling again into your lungs, allowing you to taste the flavors as much as possible. Because it mimics that of smoking cigarettes and many vapers are ex-smokers, this is the most common type of vaping for beginners.
What is Direct-to-Lung Vaping?
For more experienced vapers, the Direct-to-Lung hit can be more satisfying and can even elevate your dopamine levels. This method allows you to take the vapor directly from the device into your lungs. This method produces much larger vape clouds.
What is the Difference between Mouth-to-Lung and Direct-to-Lung?
First, there isn’t a right or wrong answer as to which vaping method is superior. If you want larger cloud production, DTL vaping would be a good option. If you are looking to taste the vapor flavor or mimic the feeling of cigarettes, then you’ll want to use the MTL method. The method you decide works best for you is going to help you determine which vaping device style you’ll want, as well as the makeup of your e-liquid.
● Vaping devices: Many of the devices commercially available are generally made for MTL vaping. If DTL is your preferred method, you’ll need to look for devices that are made specifically for direct lung hits.
● Nicotine levels: Juices with high nicotine levels (more than 3mg) will hit you harder when you’re vaping directly into your lungs. This can cause coughing fits, chest discomfort, dizziness, or nausea.
● E-liquid makeup: For MTL vaping, e-liquids with high Propylene Glycol (PG) and low Vegetable Glycerin (VG) allow you to taste the flavors more. E-liquids with high VG and low PG levels are better for DTL hits and are specifically made for larger clouds.
Ultimately, the decision is yours as to which method you prefer. If you intend to make the switch from MTL to DTL vaping at some point, consider a vape that can help you transition, such as our Stick V9 and V9 Max Kits. These vapes focus on lower wattage but allow for intense clouds and flavor in every hit. Visit our website or visit a SMOK retailer near you to check them out!
