Starscream is incredibly lonely. He doesn't have a soulmate he could confide in, he doesn't have someone who could understand him. Yes, he has his own triad - Skywarp and Novastorm, but the problem is that they are unable to understand Starscream.

It would seem that they are the closest of all, they simply could not help but know what pain their leader is going through, but why do they have such a strained relationship?

It's simple: Skywarp thinks that Starscream exaggerates and dramatizes everything, and Novastorm does not know what Starscream went through. This character seems to be created to suffer.
