I hate tournament arcs so much. They're either immersion breaking (oh lets go and fight a random martial arts tournament in hell for some odd reason) or you can tell that the writer has failed to flesh out the story or give characters good abilities/explore certain themes because they are reserving all of it for their stupid fucking tournament arc.

I'm aware that artists are losing jobs because of AI and that theft occurs-- The stable diffusion point is interesting-- thank you for linking, I'm not really clued in to tech Reddit so I'd been looking through Krafton's statements. I know we often like to think that big corporations love lying, but in most countries, misrepresenting a product could potentially open them up to some kind of legal liability.

My point is that many Sims YouTubers have been giving takes without any information or research to back them up and have affiliations with EA. Giving Krafton backlash if this is true, is fair, but again if they can provide evidence that the AI is in actuality only trained on their assets I think it's less damning as artists would have still been hired to create those assets.

I think they probably need to clarify these things, especially when it comes down to the software and whether they purchased a version of the software that was supposed to have modifications or if they were given permission to modify it themselves. I understand the desire to accuse large corporations of lying or being untruthful, and yes this does happen, but corporate oversight and internal lack of communication also occur-- which I think is important to highlight.

On Inzoi and AI

Not to snark on the Sims community generally, but the number of Sims YouTubers and Simmers who have spoken out against InZoi's AI usage without doing any substantive research on the AI the company is using is baffling. I won't name-drop drop of course, but I watched a video earlier where a large YouTuber went on a rant about how they would no longer be playing/supporting the game because of its use of GenAI. Firstly, I believe that the general critiques of AI are quite valid, especially when it comes to art theft but the studio behind InZoi has clarified (from the research I've done) that they have trained the game AI off of their own in-house assets/officially licensed content to avoid both copyright issues and art theft.

Even if you think this has the potential to put people out of jobs, AI in video games is not new. Ai has been used for NPCs in several video games before and can be useful when allowing devs to focus on fleshing out other parts of the game.

It feels a bit strange that a non-Western studio is taking incredibly harsh criticism for something standard. It bothers me that gaming YouTubers are willing to make claims without substantiating them or doing any research and it is especially strange to hear Sims YouTubers make claims against one of EA's competitors (whether they are affiliated with EA or not.

I get that AI is very controversial, and I think that large open-source AI projects like GTP and Google Gemini are stealing art and that is bad, but there are some AI projects which are very different in their aims and do not aim to steal from artists. We need to be able to make these distinctions and handle things with nuance.

When it comes to shipping, the female gaze is so real. Whenever I see men discuss shipping in their spaces-- specifically Het shipping a big consideration for them is "loyalty" instead of mutual connection and respect. For a lot of men female characters exist as trophies to be handed to the main character at the end of a series and this isn't something that disturbs or annoys them. I've seen men discuss characters who are set up to be love interests as being "cute" and "loyal" even if the relationship is not developed AT ALL.

For women, the focus is on the dynamic and relationship between the two characters. I think a lot of women like ships that aren't canon because they do not gel with male writers who take this trophy approach and want to engage in romantic relationships where there is mutual care and respect between two parties.

I find it mildly funny that JJK started off to a lot of people as “shonen that actually cares about its female characters” but the moment Gege’s editor left, he went out of his way to sideline as much of the female cast as possible

Also as a side note, shonen fans make me laugh because they will have serious power scaling discussions as if shonen writers don't just give their favourite characters ridiculous asspull power ups and rig fights in their favour all of the time.

Female characters are often used as jobbers/ are made to intentionally lose fights for the development of male characters, or to make other characters look stronger.

I need a female character in a shonen to be given an unbelievable asspull and only then will I believe that gender equality has been achieved in the genre.

This may be a broken take, but take the fuckign Shibuya arc.

Itadori- is getting his ass beat by Choso when choso has some spaghetti flashback.

Megumi- Is getting his ass kicked by Toji but then Toji takes possession of his body and offs himself. Megumi summons Mahoraga and then Sukuna shows up to kill Mahoraga so Megumi doesn't die. Also Megumi has hand to hand combat training but fundamentally he is a summoner, so his CT is actually not that useful in direct one on one hand to hand combat and he gets his ass kicked a lot by the likes of Toudou and a lot of other characters.

Meanwhile:

Nobara- Yeah she has the shit fight against Haruto but Nobara Is doing well against Mahito's clone, Mahito calls her his natural born predator and she has some good strategic moments before dying in the most low down dirty disrespectful way possible when actually it would have been interesting if her CT was his demise and Gege should have let the whole "natural born enemy" thing play out so Nobara had a serious W.

As a side note, many people say she wouldn't have survived the culling games.

JUST GIVE HER AN ASSPULL-- like every other shonen character gets. The whole genre is built off of asspulls. Black flashes in JJK effectively exist as a plot convenience-- I am tired of us having serious conversations about a genre that basically just is hype moments and aura farming.

Shonen is a funny genre because men in shonen automatically are capable of hand to hand combat with zero training and ridiculous feats even if they don't have a power, which favours hand to hand combat, and then female characters will effectively be rendered useless WITH abilities which lend themselves to hand to hand combat.
