uncommon nights textpost event ft. some headcanons about nightmare i keep meaning to write down

there are areas of nightmare outside of nightmaren lairs - actually a majority of it is just space unclaimed by any nightmaren but they prefer to stay in their own areas for a variety of reasons

i always imagined it looking like the scenes on saturn from beetlejuice for some reason lol. like with a permanently dark sky but the land isn’t completely pitch black if it makes sense. there are also no stars or anything else visible in the sky

it’s kind of dry and rocky like that too, there isn’t a day/night cycle or weather and it’s always pretty warm (the nightmarens enjoy laying on the warm rocks on the occasion they go out there. warm critters 🦎)

very little plant life but not completely devoid. most of the plants aren’t good to eat (jackle has tried them all and he will Tell you) (none of them like plants anyway). third levels usually don’t come back to nightmare either because they have no lairs and rarely capture any ideya themselves

wizeman does control even the uninhabited parts of nightmare but he also has kind of his own lair. i like the weird twisty castle he has in the comic tbh, the 1sts and 2nds’ lairs are either close to or within the bounds of it

(they can have multiple lairs but the only one who cares enough to try it is jackle. his second one is further away from everyone else’s and is desert themed like the matching game background. idk i just wanted to include that background lol)

nights’ lair looked kind of like jod’s dream gate but just more disheveled, lots of overgrown plants and broken architecture. they preferred to hang out in reala’s room though

what is it with square enix and this character type

still nowhere near needing this character for MyStory but probably going to choose chrono bunny because it’s the most fleshed out idea. but also: really old grumpy box fox character who balan imprints on like a baby duckling because they both have hats

i want to make another oc so balan can have a costume critter friend like lance has aster but idk what Critter to choose. i do like the idea of him carrying the little elf costume in a front pocket on his suit however

earlier post also brings to mind the concept of lance making balan his informant of what’s happening among humans if he isn’t able to interact with them. usually just stuff balan can observe the evolution of easily and without too much interference (like language or styles of dress or something) but other times lance is like “balan. i’ve just heard of something called “frozen yogurt”. you Must investigate this for me”

Also regarding the last post: it’s interesting to think about when you take into consideration how little about Lance Balan seems to know in the novel. Like he doesn’t know for sure how old he is, why he exists (claims he represents all of the bad in humanity’s history rather than gradually being worn down by trying to fix negativity over time), and of course who he used to be. There’s also the inconsistency between how Balan describes Lance’s relationship to the inhabitants (only keeping them there to basically farm negativity/drops— for his own gain rather than caring about them) and how Lance describes it (insisting that even after everything, he only did what he did because he did care for them and felt his actions were necessary to protect them)

But all this also gives the impression that the two of them just don’t really interact much? It feels more like Balan knows of Lance more than just knowing him. He knows Lance poses a threat to the theatre’s usual system of handling guests and that the Negati thrive around him and so sends Emma and Leo to fight him as part of their journeys. But what has Lance been doing up to this point. Like what does he do in the theatre every day (especially before the first of the 12 inhabitants comes in)? Balan referring to his actions as “masquerading as Wonderworld’s maestro” implies that Lance’s “normal” role isn’t even comparable to Balan’s. Were they close sometime in the past and just grew apart as Lance became more negative or have they just kind of avoided each other since Balan was created. we will never know the answer

ok last update (hopefully): this law can’t effect social media sites because the law that would have required age verification for social media here was “permanently struck down” in april. apparently people are trying to repeal that decision but april is the latest news i can find about it + i’m hoping that news about how poorly other places’ age verification laws are being received (and worked around lol) will stop it. so basically I Won

has anyone living in a state with age verification laws for 18+ sites faced any trouble getting onto social media sites like tumblr/bluesky/etc, i found out my state is implementing that on 9/29 and i’m worried they might get blocked eventually for “hosting obscene content” or something :(

has anyone living in a state with age verification laws for 18+ sites faced any trouble getting onto social media sites like tumblr/bluesky/etc, i found out my state is implementing that on 9/29 and i’m worried they might get blocked eventually for “hosting obscene content” or something :(
