Activity description:
As members of BaLMUN club, we were invited to joint workshop that simulated EU accession process. We were divided into pairs or groups of three, with students from our and one more school. We were representing either member countries of EU, country candidate for EU membership, European Commission, Civil Society or Media. First part of workshop was presentation about EU, then we had a simulation, and then we had talk with diplomates and ambassadors of 12 different countries.

Reflection
Even though similar to MUN in some aspects, this workshop has been entirely new experience for all of us. We got an opportunity to learn a lot, to have fun during the simulation and challenge ourselves and each other with our speeches and questions. The last part of the workshop, when we had a chance to meet and to have a conversation with 12 ambassadors from countries such as Denmark, Greece, Italy, Chechia etc. We discussed diplomacy as a call, their personal experience – positive and negative sides, and even talked to Luigi Soreca, Head of the Delegation of the EU to BiH about position of our country when it comes to entering EU. All in all, this was educational and enriching experience that we are happy to have.

Pecka weekend

~ Activity description ~
On Friday morning our class gathered in front of to school to go on our CAS camp in Visitor Center Pecka. We arrived in cozy complex in nature, ready to connect as a class.
On first day, we had psychology workshop on happiness, which reminded us to cherish people and hobbies that make us happy. When asked about a person that causes most joy to us, more often than not, answers were either family members or classmates - our second family. Also, we helped our hostess prepare lunch, and ate all together. In the evening we played guitar, sang karaoke, played some games and watched a movie.
Second day was reserved for 16-ish km long walk in the nature. Although it rained for a bit, it did not spoil our day. Prepared with umbrellas and raincoats, we turned rain into fun experience. We went to see beautiful springs of river Sana. In the evening we talked about everything and nothing, sang, danced, and then watched NBA.
On Sunday morning we got ready and headed back home.

~ Reflection ~
That weekend was an amazing reality-get-away. We had a chance to enjoy each other's company. Spending time in nature offered a chance for relaxation, and evenings were true bonding times. 16 girls sleeping in one room with one bathroom forced everyone to cooperate and be considerate towards others. We also got a chance to spend some of our time with professors in a non-school environment, build better relations with them and make student-teacher cooperation even better. In Pecka, we were not 26 students and 4 teachers; we were one class, one family-like group. As a class, we are proudly one well-connected group since day one, and this brought us even closer together.

~ In memoriam ~
We owe this camp, and all our love for CAS to our dear late teacher Tatjana Račić. This camp was her project, and if it wasn't for her we wouldn't have this experience. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to come to Pecka with us, and due to evil illness we lost her on 27.4.2025.
First CAS class, she told us to enjoy CAS, to organise activities together, as a group. And that is exactly what we used this camp for. For us, she will forever be our CAS coordinator.

We gathered a team of five to compete in a creative Harry Potter quiz. We managed to get a lot of answers correctly, but some were really difficult and they helped us widen our knowledge about Harry Potter franchise.

Reflection:
Participating in this quiz was a really interesting and fun experience. We learned so many new facts about Harry Potter, like the existence of the character Hassan Mustafa. It was a really knowledge-deepening quiz that made us more interested in the world of Harry Potter and encouraging us to explore it more.

Activity description
Every year our school participates in the tradition to hike on Kozara in the beginning of spring. This year most of our classmates decided to join. It was really exhausting, but it was definitely worth it. Through our hiking expedition on Kozara, we developed both physical endurance and interpersonal skills while connecting with nature.

Reflection
This was a really enjoyable experience, but it made us face several challenges as well. Collaborating with classmates to navigate the trails fostered a sense of teamwork as we encouraged each other through difficult sections. Some of us had harder time during the hike, but we all stuck together and managed to get to the top in the end. It was all worth it for the meal we received as a report for climbing to the top!

On friday, our group visited PMF to learn about the process of gel electrophoresis. We observed how this technique is used to separate DNA, RNA, or proteins based on their size and charge. The demonstration included extracting DNA from a flower, preparing the gel, loading the samples, applying an electric current, and analyzing the results. We also gained insight into its applications in genetic research, forensics, and medical diagnostics. It was a great opportunity to see the process firsthand and understand its significance in scientific studies.

Activity description:
DSD-Medienskompetenzprojekt brought together high school students from six different high schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina with the aim of creating a DSD website, improving knowledge and use of the German language, and improving the skills of young people preparing for the DSD exam. This event’s main idea was to establish a functioning website for all current and future DSD students through various different workshops in which we were divided into, but no matter whether we were in the Inspiration. Glückspiel, DSD-Projekte, Materialen or the Medienteam, we all had the opportunity to develop our skills in those various fields, our German language skills and by doing it we contributed to the establishment of the Bosnian DSD webpage. As hosts, we also had the role of tour guides, showing our peers around the city and helping them navigate it.

Reflection:
Participating in this project helped us immensely, whether in improving our German language skills, developing new ones in various fields, and it also helped us be more prepared for the test itself. We gained so many new amazing memories and experiences, we made many new friends with the same interest in the German language and we helped organize and create an amazing experience for all of the participants of the Medienskompetenzprojekt.

The winter camp “I want more” consisted of many interesting workshops, ehixh provided an opportunity for participants to explore the application of science in everyday life, expand their horizons through practical work and gain invaluable experience. In addition, the camp is a great place to meet peers with similar interests and create new friendships. I participated in the workshop “Diplomat for a day” where we had the opportunity to engage in solving a real-world like situation through the implementation of diplomacy. We had the opportunity to learn the basics of diplomacy, its terms and rules as well as to implement that in a discussion and debate resolving an imaginary issue which resembles real-life problems and difficulties, as well as how the debates look like.

Reflection:
Participating in this winter camp was an amazing experience. I was able to broaden my horizons, expand my knowledge and gain new experiences in debate and diplomacy. It was very useful to listen to the lecturers, work collaboratively with my peers and play a role of a diplomat, as well as to resolve a presented issue by reaching a resolution together.

Making cakes for slava
Activity title: Making cakes for my grandma’s slava

Activity description:
I was a part of this year’s preparation for my grandparents’ Slava – Saint Jovan. This was a great opportunity for me to do some baking, which I really love, and help my family in organising and making delicious meals for many guests that visit them every year. I baked four cakes: Čupavci, Bajadera, apple pie and Ruske kape. As those are the signature cakes of my grandmother, I was honoured to keep the tradition and step into her role this year.

Reflection:
I am really happy that I could combine my baking skills, my grandmother’s recipes and signature cakes, spending time with my loved ones and helping them prepare for such a big family gathering as Slava. It was really interesting and enjoyable to be a part of the big preparations. It was even more amazing when I got some praise from the best critiques there are – my grandparents and the guests of the Slava. I hope that I will continue to help my family in such preparations in the future, that I will learn even more traditional recipes and that I will continue to develop my baking skills that can always come in handy when dealing with a big guest group such as the one on major family gatherings.

Activity description:
This year, as IB students, we got the opportunity to volunteer at various different places. Five of us volunteered at the City Hall. We were able to help with the sorting, fulling out, preparation for the shipment, and packing the city scholarship paperwork for the high school students of our city. There was a lot of documentation to sort and go through, but we managed to complete our tasks, in spite of their size, as we devised in smaller groups and quickly started getting the grip of out duties. We were also accompanied by the real city hall workers, who helped and who guided us through our work. It was a great experience to see how the process of preparation and giving out city scholarships looks like and it was amazing to be a part of that process.

Reflection:
Volunteering at a place such as the City Hall is a remarkable and very interesting experience. We are glad that we had the chance to see how a process of getting and preparing such a thing like the city scholarships looks like and it was extremely interesting to be involved in it even for a day. By volunteering at the City Hall, we learned more about the work that is done in such an institution, what all has to be done to do it well and how it is always more joyful and easier to work in a group of people, as we managed to sort out and finalise the process of getting and distributing scholarships. We are really happy to have helped in such a way and that we were included in such a project, which affects a lot of our fellow students and us.

Translating a psychology research

Activity description
Our friend's parents needed help with a translation of their research and she offered us to help them. Each of us was given about 50 sentences which they needed to translate. It was quite challenging trying to keep the context of the text while translating it to a different language.

Reflection
This was my first time translating a scientific paper and it was quite challenging in some aspects. I love learning new languages and I started learning English when I was 4 years old. Still, this was a completely new experience for me. I am still getting used to academical language, since I've never had to use it before enrolling IB. Overall, a very fun and enjoyable experience.

Me and my classmates took a one-day trip to Budapest two weeks ago. We were introduced everything fom hungarian culture to Budapest's famous historical architecture. Our tourist guide walked us through various places including St. Matthias church, Fisherman's Bastion and other parts of Buda, older part of Budapest. After that we visited Heroes Square and heard a lot of stories about first Hungarian ancestors. After our time spent with touristic guide we had plenty of free time, approximately 6 hours. During our free time we visited Elisabeth birdge and Advent.

Reflection
Despite the fact that I was tired because we had to hop on bus at 1 AM I had a lot of fun visiting this gorgeous city on Danube. Thanks to my friends it was possible to make exiciting atmosphere during this trip.

Baking

Čupavci are one of my favourite traditional cakes and I have learned to make them from my grandmom. This time I was preparing them for my whole family when we were celebrating my grandfather’s birthday. Waffles are one of my signatory dishes and I often make them for my siblings and me, as well as for my friends. Baking overall is one of my favourite ways of relaxing and expressing myself creatively while making it fun and tasty

Reflection:
I love to bake and I love to take any opportunity to do so. This time I was so excited to contribute to the family gathering by making the favorite desert of most of my family members. Also, I was really happy when the waffles I made later were eaten so rapidly that there was hardly anything left. I take that as an accomplishment in satisfying my siblings’ wish for something sweet. Baking is a great way of trying out new interesting recipes, but it is also a great way of preserving family tradition and improving the skills and experience one has. In conclusion, baking is both satisfactory, enjoyable and it has tasty and fruitful results

Freedom of Expression HUB is a project that strives to connect youth activism with civil society organizations and media representatives who are committed to the protection of human rights and freedom. The general goal of the project is to contribute to a comprehensive understanding of freedom of expression, as well as to support and empower civil society (youth and youth civil society organizations) in Bosnia and Herzegovina to understand and, through cooperation with media workers and representatives of the judiciary, promote the right of freedom of expression and its limitations. The goal is also to improve the knowledge of young people and media professionals in dealing with misinformation, hate speech, misogyny and defamation. This project shows the power of young people in shaping a society that sees open dialogue, resists hate speech and embraces change.

Reflection:
Being a part of a project that has an impact not only on myself, but all other young people in my country is a beautiful and honouring experience. Alongside my friends and colleagues, I had the opportunity to be trained to see and spot hate speech, disinformation, misogyny and all the ways in which one can express themselves in a negative way. We learned how to fix those issues and how to promote expression in the right way, we learned more about media literacy, laws and rules regarding one’s expression, and how we can help our communities benefit from understanding and taking part in raising awareness of this important issue, as well as what are our rights and limitations, when it comes to rightful expression. Working, talking and connecting with young people from all around the country, who are aiming and fighting for the same goal, was an amazing experience and taking part in a discussion and project that touches a topic such as this was wonderful.

Painting

Activity description:
I have painted for a very long time and it is one of my biggest passions. I try to paint whenever I find the time to do so. For me, painting is a way of expression but also of relaxation and a place of love.

Reflection:
Painting is a great way in which I am able to express myself. It is something I have done for a long time and in which I can find both peace and excitement in. I love to experiment with different styles and techniques, but also to stay in my comfort zone and paint things that interest me in the moment. By painting, I try to transfer an emotion on the canvas or to create a work that could create an emotion on a viewer. Painting is also a way of relaxing, in which one can transform all of his or her emotions on a piece of blank canvas. I am happy to be able to express myself creatively and I am grateful for all the experience I have gained through drawing and painting.

Participating in Model United Nations – delegating for specific country, meaning representing its stance on important global issues which UN discusses. Simulations take place each Saturday, as preparation for official MUN conference which our school organizes. Every delegate is assigned a country to represent for that simulation.

Reflection
Preparing to delegate for different countries, about various global issues, gives us the opportunity to learn about different problems concerning the world, and different cultures and policies around the world. As we debate our way to a resolution, we are encouraging collaboration and team-work in order to achieve the best possible results as a unity. Through BaLMUN, we develop our skills is diplomacy, collaboration, and public speaking. We learn how to view things from diverse perspectives and defend stances that often oppose our own. BaLMUN offers truly unique experience, a very educational activity, and we are truly happy to have such opportunity. In the end, raising awareness about the global issues is a step towards making world a better place.

Activity description
Last week, my classmates and I attended a series of history lectures held in the hall of Gimnazija. These lectures were presented by fellow Gimnazija students, showcasing their knowledge and presentation skills. Our primary motivation for attending was to support our classmate, Milica, who was one of the presenters. However, the event turned out to be an educational experience for all of us.
The topics covered were diverse and intriguing, including Indira Gandhi and her role in Indian politics, the Chinese Civil War and the leadership of Chiang Kai-shek, and Livia, the first female leader of Rome. Each lecture was well-researched and gave us valuable insights into these historical figures and events.

Reflection
One of the key takeaways for me was how much effort and dedication my peers put into their research and presentations. It was inspiring to see students take the stage and confidently share their knowledge with an audience. Their passion for the subjects reminded me of the importance of curiosity and continuous learning.
The experience also made me reflect on my own ability to present and communicate ideas. Seeing my peers handle such complex topics with clarity and confidence encouraged me to work on developing similar skills.
