anonymous : Yes hello, today Dr Ratio has been blessed by the Galaxy cat’s presence~! Said Galaxy cat will purr and nuzzle the scholar’s legs, leaving behind sparkles and glitter all the while! (Cough of course this isn’t the cat that visits Aventurine sometimes what are you talking about cough-)

one   simply   had   to   wonder   why   so   many   strange   creatures   seemed   to   cross   his   path,   although   this   one   at   least   did   not   appear   to   intend   any   harm   towards   his   belongings   or   peace   of   mind.   as   the   odd   feline   wound   about   his   legs,   the   scholar   stared   down   to   witness   the   shimmering   traces   left   in   its   wake.
...   unfortunately,   that   meant   he   would   not   offer   it   any   further   attention,   lest   his   fingers   also   end   up   covered   in   glitter   and   such.
he   did   enjoy   the   bit   of   affection   ever   so   slightly,   though,   despite   the   soft   sigh   it   drew   from   him.

Tumblr media
For thousands of years since the nasence of the Vidyadhara's concordant to join the Xianzhou Alliance, the High Elders of the Azure Dragon's line had danced for whole lifetimes to contain the mad and frenzied dragon that existed within the Ambrosial Arbor's roots. The dances, rites, and ceremonies were the difference between peace and the Arbor spiraling out of control into a malevolence that would've afflicted two-thirds of the ships with Mara or Moon Rage and devolved them into the same abominations they'd waged war against for generations. It was a necessary role, a needed one, yet the figures from his memories always seemed so very wary. They danced to protect, to preserve, and to fulfill a role that no one else could. It was why so much of him had wanted to personally send Mydei off--not in a pretentious gambit to elevated himself compared to his best friend--but because he had an inkling of understanding of the isolatedness the warrior prince was destined to contend with. If only because it felt crushing, a void that yawned with the infinity of the end. For how long would he be at war before he became the Titan that had granted him the power he now wielded? Once, Dan Heng had feared the power of the Dragon Heart consuming his consciousness whole, one that had emanated through the ages. Somehow, the fear felt kinder than the darkness Mydei was consigned to face alone. A destiny he walked into with nothing but the promise of Genesis at his back, and the rays of a new dawn that would one day shine over the heights of Castrum Kremnos.
He felt... conflicted. Like this wasn't enough. Perhaps it was why his vocation with the Twilight Courtyard had come so naturally. Because he remembered the regrets of lifetimes of watching people fall and being unable to do anything. "...Would you be remiss at the idea of being visited? By... those that can fend for themselves. Maybe... if there were things you needed. If we're to be your allies, it's the least any of us can do." The words seemed to jumble in his head as he read the menu, quickly decising on a small platter of Moussaka, a dish with minced beef, sauces, eggplant, and a creamy sauce. Enough to be filling, but not heavy. As a waitress took their orders to be filled, the unease only seemed to grow. "Just because you feel you should doesn't mean you have to face this alone. Maybe it's presumptuous of me, but... we've been here for weeks already. I suppose... what I'm try to say is--Stelle and I see you all as friends. As friends, as comrades... we're here if you need it. If... you want it, of course."

her   enthusiasm   was,   while   somewhat   endearing,   admittedly   misplaced,   he   found.   that   test   served   not   to   grade   her   skills   but   rather   to   assess   her   strengths   and,   more   importantly   still,   her   weaknesses.
curing   ignorance   would   be   too   tall   a   task   were   he   to   turn   a   blind   eye   towards   the   nuance   nestled   within   knowledge   itself;   omnipotence   was   unattainable   to   ordinary   living   beings   but   the   likes   of   ratio   himself   and   those   of   sora   had   to   approach   furthering   their   erudite   pursuit   in   vastly   different   ways.
Tumblr media
sora   returned   to   find   the   scholar   unmoved   by   the   delivery   of   her   efforts,   wearing   the   same   composed   expression   as   usual.   ❛    thank   you,   ❜   he   threw   out   as   the   papers   were   accepted   and   set   aside,   destined   to   be   evaluated   later   on,   given   the   volume   of   the   assessment   test.   still,   he   eyed   her   briefly,   equal   parts   satisfied   with   the   punctual   delivery   and   faintly   intrigued   by   her   complaisant   behaviour.
❛    that   would   be   all.   i   take   it   you   had   no   issues   filling   out   that   portion   of   the   assessment   ?   ❜
It was a relief to hear him say that questions could be skipped over if she needed. Not that she had plans to avoid certain kinds of questions, but she knew where her strengths lied in these subjects. If she would be confident enough to ask for help was an entirely different matter but she'd deal with it if she had to.
"I'll do my best." She promised, flashing him a smile. And with that she took her leave, eager to get to work.
-------
True to her initial estimate, it took several days for Sora to complete the test. When Ratio next saw her she was looking a bit worse for wear, but also rather pleased with herself.
Tumblr media
"Veritas!" She greeted him cheerfully and held out the finished test. "Here. Took me exactly as long as I thought it would, heh." And she'd been able to fill out more than she expected which had been a pleasant surprise. Her understanding of modern science could stand to be better, but thankfully she seemed to have things like math and reading at a good level.
As for other subjects she was excellent at questions aimed at the natural world, mainly in regards to plants and animals-- and a surprising understanding of hydrology, though she often didn't know the right terms to describe how things worked.
There were many places she struggled, however. For example: complex math and science equations were outside her capabilities, and she had almost no knowledge of major historical events regarding, well.. anywhere. The best she could say is she might have heard about certain ones at some point.
Though Sora still wasn't certain how a test covering this many subjects would be helpful, she was glad she'd filled it out all the same. "Was there anything else you needed me to do?"

all   his   life,   jing   yuan   had   striven   to   be   steadfast   without   abandoning   too   much   of   himself,   but   only   when   his   long   life   began   to   outpace   those   dearest   to   him   did   he   notice   that   while   one   could   slow   the   way   time   chipped   away   at   body   and   mind,   it   could   never   truly   be   halted.   one   day,   he,   too,   would   crumble   under   that   endless   strain,   but   he   hoped   it   would   be   as   gentle   an   end   as   possible—   if   not   for   himself   then   for   those   he   had   sought   to   protect.
he   had   a   feeling   the   knight   would   share   such   thoughts,   although   the   wandering   followers   of   beauty   were   not   known   for   the   masses   they   kept   close   but   rather   their   fleeting,   stunning   appearances   and   momentary   heroics   scattered   across   the   stars.   in   a   way,   he   found   them   not   unlike   the   galaxy   rangers;   both   sparked   a   quiet   yearning   within   the   general.
Tumblr media
his   smile   returned   with   that,   soft   delight   etched   into   the   lines   that   marked   his   features   with   it.   ❛    the   knights   of   beauty's   reputation   hardly   does   you   credit.   it's   an   honour   to   chat   with   a   warrior   of   your   convictions,   ❜   he   praised,   but   thankfully   found   that   their   arrival   at   the   artisanship   commission   diverted   from   the   chance   to   offer   further   compliments.
a   few   nearby   members   of   the   commission   grew   a   touch   restless   with   the   general's   appearance,   and   he   made   for   the   terminal   to   open   the   gate   with   a   few   leisurely   steps   aside.   once   the   doors   swung   open,   he   gestured   gently   for   argenti   to   follow   along.   ❛    much   to   my   regret,   the   area   remains   marred   by   the   rampaging   roots   of   the   ambrosial   arbour.   rest   assured,   however,   that   its   operations   aren't   further   impeded.   ❜
there was a sliver of uncertainty when argenti feared that his question had overstepped the hospitality offered.  yet fortune favored the bold.  it was a rare gift to exchange words with one so seasoned.  though argenti had fought plenty of battles part of him,  hidden behind his knightly confidence that yearned for a guiding star.  the heavens grew ever silent these days without idrila to guide him.
❝   as much as i lament to confess,  my conviction has wavered often during my journey.   ❞   his truth laid bare.  a quiet courage in his confession.  and when he met the serene gaze of the general and found neither reproach nor pity,  he felt understood.  argenti understood just as the general did that there is no turning back,  no path but forward.  a sword cannot be sheathed when duty yet demands it.
Tumblr media
❝   but fortunately i can claim that it hasn't brought me down yet,   ❞   argenti continued,  his voice laced with that quiet resolve as he regained it once more.  a slight bow of his head as he offered silent gratitude for the general's company and the wisdom that had been granted him.
their footsteps brought them to a halt before the gate.   ❝   ah,  it seems we have arrived at the artisan commission.   ❞   a pity for he felt like he could have spoken with the general for hours.  yet a knight must not tarry long 'pon the kindness of others.  though he longs for the comfort of such company, he knows that the tour will at some point come to an end.

@spurhill : One of these days they would get in trouble for destruction of property or disturbance of the peace. Somehow, they'd managed to make it outside of city limits before their playful jostling turned, expectedly, into a full blown spar. It was easy, of course, to lose himself in this dance of theirs; each strike, each touch, brought a life to him he'd missed and he felt in his veins how his blood pumped eagerly, flowing quickly as if to meet this man he'd grown so fond of.
Coming in close often came at a cost, but not one Phainon was unwilling to pay; the struggle and pain that bloomed across his body, he found, was most welcome when it came with the result of successfully pinning his opponent.
Tumblr media
"Tired, Mydei? Here's a pick-me-up." A quick lean in, lips gracing nose playfully yet in clear provocation. But, well, that was part of the fun.
Tumblr media
phainon   was   a   strong   fighter,   resolved   and   eager   to   improve   himself,   but   also   someone   with   a   penchant   for   mischief.   the   playfulness   they   exchanged   was   always   rooted   in   proud   rivalry   and   while   they   did   get   along   well,   it   often   devolved   into   mildly   juvenile   competitions.   that   sort   of   thing   kept   one's   spirits   up   when   shouldering   the   sorts   of   weights   they   carried,   but   it   also   saw   mydei   more   easily   agitated,   albeit   in   an   ultimately   harmless   way.
that   tussle   of   theirs   had   seen   phainon   gaining   the   upper   hand,   which   was   hardly   unusual   given   that   they   tended   to   keep   even   scores.   with   his   own   bruises   to   speak   of   and   pinned   to   the   ground,   the   only   thing   that   had   any   chance   of   turning   the   tide   ought   to   be   a   sudden   influx   of   strength,   or   some   diversion   that   might   throw   phainon   off.
luckily,   the   kiss   to   his   nose   did   the   trick.
stunned,   briefly   flustered   and   promptly   outraged,   the   kremnoan   pushed   against   his   grasp   with   all   his   might,   one   burst   of   strength   seeing   him   flipping   them   over,   knee   pressed   against   his   hip   and   hands,   in   turn,   pressing   the   deliverer's   wrists   above   his   head,   against   the   ground.
Tumblr media
❛    hks,   ❜   he   hissed.   ❛    your   little   tricks   are   only   going   to   bring   about   your   defeat.   ❜
