I’ve seen that quite a few people who “hate” Armie Hammer now were once big fans who felt they had gained some kind of access to him, and became enraged or jilted when they realised they didn’t. No one is entitled to a celebrity’s attention or time. We are not the only people they deal with. Any remotely famous celebrity is probably meeting upwards of 50+ people a day. Their life and career are NOT all about you. They are a human being. This is their real everyday life, not a game.
Them not responding or getting back to you in the way you imagined they would is not a green light for you to seek petty revenge, nor is it ok for you to launch hate campaigns in response to your own bruised ego. You set yourself up for that disappointment when you weren’t realistic about how rare and difficult communication is with a celebrity/a total stranger.
In the exact same way you would feel scared or violated if an ex or a person at school/work suddenly became obsessed with you, did everything to get in front of you but then become violent or aggressive when you didn’t respond how they wanted - DON’T ACT LIKE THIS TOWARD CELEBRITIES EITHER.
And let it be know that if years later you are still obsessively checking all corners of their fandom, still scouring the internet for any mention of them, still banding together with other hateful, bitter souls and still devoting hours of your days to bringing someone down because they didn’t do what you thought they should - you’re still as utterly obsessed with them as you think any fan is. You still have an entirely toxic parasocial relationship with them. What you are doing is unhealthy and blurring all lines of what is right and wrong. You are unhealthy, you are unhappy and you are on the wrong path. Do better.

As requested by many of you: My favorite quotes/parts of the book CMYN.... (with some thoughts about each)
Tumblr media
The moment I read this quote I immediately thought of this photo Armie took of Timmy in the ancient Roman chapel that day gazing at the altar. I had to post the way he so beautifully captured a seemingly private moment of Timmy in thought & wonder.
This quote explains every good, safe and comfortable feeling one could feel towards another. It does so by comparing the feelings Elio has to the things that bring us the most comfort. He compares him to “home” the place where we know we belong. The place that is our own. The place where we rest, reside and is our comfort zone. He compares him to “home coming” which is the feeling of coming home. Is there a greater feeling? After a long days work, a wild night out, or in a time of feeling ill.. home is the place we can’t wait to get. Kick off our shoes, find our favorite spot and just be, because we’re home. Elio compares his feelings to “being able to be himself”. Whoever he is truly, he becomes that whenever he is with him which I love. He feels unmasked, unabashed and free. Lastly, Oliver makes him want to tell “the truth”. We only want to tell the truth when we feel like the truth is being told to someone who is our safe haven. When we feel we can confess, without judgement or betrayal which is why he thinks to himself, I’ll even go light a candle at the altar in the church if I can confide in you. His secrets, his truth, his identity, and his home he entrusts to Oliver.
Tumblr media
Who doesn’t love Mr. Pearlman’s short monologue. He’s the parent we all hope, pray, and wish upon a star for. In this moment while Elio is in the midst of his deepest pain, he steps in with the infamous words of advice and encouragement. I know most people quote the beginning half, and to be honest the whole portion of it is great. But for me the end spoke very clearly to me. The last few lines kind of explain why he’s even bothered to say everything else he had just stated. Why embrace the pain? Why choose not to feel nothing? Why have the courage to accept who we are? Why not let anything stand in our way? Because like he says, this is given to us only once. We have just once.. and that just hit it home for me!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love this small part. It could be easily overlooked but I love this moment of surrender from Elio. He decides that he’ll stop looking away everytime Oliver looks his way and that he’ll stop pretending he doesn’t care. He locks eyes with him in that moment as a declaration of complete surrender no matter if it came to nothing in the end. He wanted them to be unable to even pretend that they weren’t aware of what was going on between them. No more shifty glances, just two people sharing a gaze.
Tumblr media
This was my FAVORITE part of the entire book. Yes this small seemingly basic portion of the reading was in fact my absolute favorite. I love this part for so many reasons and I will try to not write an entirely separate book on my thoughts about this specific scene.
This part took my by complete surprise and was the only time since coming across both the film, the boys, this fandom, or anything having to do with cmbyn, that I cried. (Jo YOU cried?) yes... a single tear but still a tear nevertheless.
The scene starts off so seemingly mundane. Just heading to the bookstore, quite casual. Elio wanted more time to spend with Oliver in that moment. He just wanted to make their time together longer by inviting him to the bookstore to pick up a book. They had agreed not to talk about the things that had happened between them “No speeches” as they put it. And Elio as soon as they walk in feels the moment is special. “This felt special. Like showing someone your private chapel, your secret haunt, the place where (as with the berm), one comes to be alone, to dream of others. This is where I dreamed of you before you came into my life”.
Not many people talk about the significance of the bookstore. Elio compares it to the berm. He says this is also his secret place, the place where he can be himself. And he had taken Oliver there as well. He watches him as he moves through the bookstore and notes his manner. He’s making mental memories and images of him in his head. He becomes nostalgic before we even sense it’s happening. He gets the book he came for & grabs one for Oliver. THEN, he enscribes it. Why? Then we read his thoughts... we see why he’s even bothered to take the time to do that. He wants him to remember. He is nostalgic. He is thinking about Oliver’s absence long before he’s gone. He was standing in the store with him right then but in that moment it seemed he could see into the future. He imagines it actually... Oliver or someone else finding the book and reading his handwriting. He was already thinking of ways to bridge the gap between now and then. He was living in the end before it was even present. It was like he was trying to reach out to Oliver from the past even while it was the present, to get to him in the future. He wanted him to remember something long after they left that bookstore and feel what he was feeling right then... the love between them. The nostalgia. The pain. He wanted to pull future Oliver close to himself in the past right there in that moment. With a simple writing. I imagine being Oliver and stumbling across that book years later. Reading the writing and letting every memory flood my mind... which is what Elio wanted. Because in that moment all he could do was remember, even while he was living out the memory itself... deep sigh. 😔
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This quote I just love and I think we all can admit it. This to me just seemed like a more in depth and creative way of expressing the realization of a soulmate. I love the way it’s written. He met Oliver and he met all the things he wanted/ needed most, he met things he had not known he could even discover, he met his forever destination (only when in the deepest love can a destination be an actual person) and he ultimately met himself. He met parts of himself that he wouldn’t otherwise had known without Oliver himself. As he put it “there were only those before Oliver and those after Oliver”. He based his very life off of him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This part is just gut wrenching. The reminiscence of Elio after so much loss including Vimini, Anchise and his father is so sad but beautiful in this moment. He holds onto the memory of the ways things were so tightly that it seems if he were to accept reality he would lose it completely. The memory of everything when it was at its best seems to be what is holding him together. He can’t help but envision Oliver in that space and the way things were then because that is the truest thing he knows. That is where things made sense and he was his truest self. He thinks back to Oliver in the bedroom, on the balcony or by the pool because that is the only place he can reach him now.. is in his memory. So he keeps him and houses him there. Reality simply could not be enough for him so we see in this moment that he is very much so, living in his memories.
If you made it to the end.. thanks for reading. We can all go cry together. 😪

Ok YES, I am HERE for this outfit!! Obviously not as flashy as the Venice one, but it still looks amazing on him. I’ve always loved him in blue, it really just works for his skin tone for whatever reason. And honest to god, I was watching the livestream of the red carpet but it took until seeing some of the HD pics for me to realize that the flaps on the jacket are PURPLE, and I freaking LOVE that! It looks fabulous and I’m just loving everything about his style lately. He went through a period a while back where I wasn’t quite feeling it, but he’s back and bringing his fashion A game for this promo and I am HERE. FOR. IT. 👏👏👏

Hi 💕 I'm not a troll or a hater, I swear I have had this thought in my head for a few days and I wanted to ask you because I always appreciate your words: If one day you should in any way have the "proof" that there is nothing between Timmy and Armie, that somehow they're not in a relationship anymore, would you continue to support Timmy and support him if he would fall in love with someone else?
Hi Nonny 😊
Of course I would! From day one I’ve said that my biggest desire is to see both of them happy and living their best lives. Now, for 99% of the time I’ve been in the fandom, I have believed that they happen to look the happiest when they’re together than when either of them are with others who they were either married to or supposedly dating. But I’ve said from the very beginning that if I ever see either one of them look at someone else the same or even more in love (if that’s even possible) than they look at each other, then I would accept that Charmie is not currently happening (I highly doubt anything could convince me that they NEVER had a thing), and I would wish them both the best in love and life. And if I’m being 100% honest, there have been a few occasions where I’ve wondered whether or not they might ultimately be happier with someone else. Not that their love isn’t real, because I absolutely believe it is, but age and stage in both life and career can significantly affect how relationships work or don’t, so in my mind there’s always been a chance that maybe it just won’t work out. But my belief is that they have what it takes to make it work, and my hope is that they make the right decisions to see them through the craziness and find their happy ending together.
Now, if Timmy falls in love with someone else, would I follow his personal life as intimately as I do now? Possibly, depending on if the person he falls in love with is interesting enough for me to want to follow them as a couple. But there’s also a chance I’d step back and be more of a casual fan, admiring him from afar as I have done with so many of my hyper-fixations that have come before and ultimately I got over. I’d definitely still follow and support his career no matter what. But again, my main purpose for sticking around as long as I have is because I want to see both of the guys happy and thriving. And while I can’t deny that Timmy’s star is skyrocketing, I’ve still never seen him quite so smitten or completely filled with joy than when he’s standing next to one Armie Hammer. So until that changes, I’ll be rooting for them and their love. 💞

THAT 2017 article…
I’ve wanted to vent on that horrid 2017 “Hollywood can’t make Armie Hammer happen” burn book-esque article for a while now. I think it was the very first step in bringing Armie down and, even though some hit back at the time, I think it brought people’s attention to Armie in a negative way, and helped shape him in their minds as someone undeserving of the fame he held. In a way, it felt like he was fighting back against the attitude of that article ever since it dropped. And of course 2021 was the takedown moment that type of crowd had been waiting for. The author even did a very embarrassing follow up article in January, a self congratulatory “told you so” rant about how she saw it first blah blah…
The timing of this article’s release was odd, to say the least. It dropped in November 2017. Which was right when CMBYN’s promo campaign kicked off. This already feels strange to me. Just as the world was being introduced to Timothee and just after a hugely successful film festival run, this article implies that the top billed actor in what is clearly going to be a BIG film is…box office poison? Not only is it a truly weird time to say an actor isn’t “happening” the way (the author thinks) they should be, but it directly contrasted with how well his career actually WAS doing at that point in time. For nearly two years prior to CMBYN, Armie had never worked harder. 2015 up til 2017 was a massively busy time for his film career (both in filming and promoting). In October 2016, he was premiering SIX films at once. That overlapped into 2017 as well, where he’d be attending several red carpets for several different films at any given time.
Now were these films commercial blockbusters? Nope. But were any of them intended to be? Not really. And for how many was he the lead role? Barely any. Let’s take a look:
Automatically we have to exclude his pre-2017 successes because this article sought to prove that he…isn’t successful lol. So Social Network, Uncle and Nocturnal Animals can’t be included. Should be noted though that he’s not the lead or top billed character/actor in any of these films. His successes after this article would include CMBYN, On The Basis of Sex, Sorry To Bother You (sorta), Hotel Mumbai. Not exactly what I’d call “box office poison undeserving of so many second chances”…
Sorry To Bother You, while hugely ambitious, is an incredibly bizarre and polarising film. Those involved surely had to consider the film’s content wasn’t exactly a draw for huge mainstream audiences. Armie doesn’t play a lead character even though he gets a lot of screentime toward the end. He’s not the face of the film (if we’re stupid enough to blame a film’s failure on the lead actor and not the actual top of the food chain role - the director. But also this film didn’t fail…it just wasn’t gigantic).
Hotel Mumbai had a very patchy release pattern worldwide (filmed in 2016 and not even released in the US til 2019…meaning the author probably never saw it) is also not exactly subject matter people race to see, nor is it something the whole family can enjoy. It’s a traumatic, harrowing look at the brutality of terrorism from all angles and while it’s important to be aware of such horrors, this isn’t a film anyone should’ve expected to grab massive worldwide attention. Oh yeah, and Armie is BARELY in it.
Final Portrait is as indie as it gets, there is next to nothing here that would appeal to mainstream audiences and tbh I can’t even imagine seeing this one in a cinema. It would be a strange experience. It seems more like a character study you’d watch to analyse filmmaking or unique forms of storytelling. It’s so obviously not a Hollywood blockbuster and isn’t trying to be. I feel like you can say this for the majority of films Armie is in!
Mine is similar…it’s fantastic but it isn’t big budget blockbuster cinema. It’s yet another unique take on character study. I’m sorry but it’s so obvious what kind of roles Armie is actually drawn to and that he likes films dealing with all the oddities of the human psyche.
Free Fire had a few names attached to it and could’ve had widespread appeal, but the high violence content and vastly unsympathetic characters (basically everyone is a villain) again makes it unlikely to obliterate the box office. Yet again an unusual film that - when you watch a bunch of Armie’s films together at once - you can see this guy does NOT choose average Hollywood blockbuster commercial made-for-box- office scripts! And he’s NOT EVEN THE LEAD in the vast majority of them!
If you read that wretched article without seeing his films, you’d be under the impression that Armie fails over and over at getting Marvel-esque blockbusters off the ground, wasting Hollywood’s (apparently) precious time and money. When, in reality, he’s usually playing a memorable secondary character in a bizarrely charming indie film with a few known names.
I just find it ridiculous that the weird sentiment people had toward him before 2021 seemed to be like “You look like you should be starring next to Chris Hemsworth in a 300 billion dollar picture that broke all box office records…but since you don’t do that, you fucking suck and we hate you for not fitting into the box we think you should”. And this was before anyone had (what they think is) an excuse to dismiss or destroy him.
It’s even crazier to me that after this article dropped, his very next film he had just started promoting was Call Me By Your Name, which will be his signature role, his most iconic character and was a film that we’re still seeing the pop culture influence of in basically every form of media right now (Lil Nas X, Young Royals, Luca etc).
And he actually WAS the top billed actor in that one! 🤪🤪🤪🤪
So this goofy author was basing her weird vendetta on Armie’s pre-CMBYN filmography. Meaning she probably saw that he did Social Network and Lone Ranger but apparently didn’t capitalise enough on those bigger moments, in a way she would approve of. Who put her in charge of what actors people can enjoy? And why do people even listen to this shit? Are we that malleable that some angry journo can shape our views on an entire human being we’ve never met? How weak minded and sad. And yeah some people will wonder why I’m saying this now that he’s been “cancelled” but this all took place four years before any of that. It’s just shit no matter what’s happened since. It’s the same attitude people used to have toward Britney until like…2012. Literally any chance to scrutinise or bring her down, call her untalented or a whore, call her a bad parent - public and press jumped at it with glee. Then she became a victim and it was suddenly cool to like her. Feel sorry for her. Be part of the movement that helps build her back up. Never mind that probably a good 80% of that movement helped bring her down in the first place. There’s some sort of disconnect between how people love tearing celebrities down…but also get a sick sense of joy and ego from being able to build them back up too. And if things go well enough for Armie, the same might happen there too. I can see it now - “Did we judge Armie Hammer too quickly?” “Why forcing the leading man role on male actors is as toxic as forcing women into love interest roles - why didn’t we realise this sooner?”, “How cancel culture and so-called ‘pretty privilege’ nearly destroyed an indie actor’s life”. Ugh.

“I was convinced that no one in the world wanted him as physically as I did; nor was anyone willing to go the distance I was prepared to travel for him. No one had studied every bone in his body, ankles, knees, wrists, fingers, and toes, no one lusted after every ripple of muscle, no one took him to bed every night and on spotting him in the morning lying in his heaven by the pool, smiled at him, watched a smile come to his lips, and thought, Did you know I came in your mouth last night?”

“Role after role after role has taught us unequivocally who Armie Hammer is supposed to be: a matinée idol, impossibly polished, masculine to a fault. Luca Guadagnino is the first director to not only recognise that perception, but weaponize it. In Call Me by Your Name, 17-year-old Elio Perlman (Timothée Chalamet) is taken aback to discover that, underneath a varnished surface, Hammer’s Oliver is a man with fear, pain, and desires of his own.  In casting Hammer, Guadagnino allows us to go on the same complex journey as Elio: we are entranced and infatuated by Hammer’s image, and therefore just as disarmed as Elio is to discover the complex man (and gifted actor) hiding underneath his intimidating, statuesque beauty. As unfathomable as it might seem given his leading-man looks, Hammer has the talent, the bravery, and the will to strip away every trace of that persona and expose his soul on screen.”
YES.
“Hammer’s body language and voice work grant us access to Oliver’s past: after Elio and Oliver have sex, Oliver cleans his own chest with his shirt, throws it carelessly to the floor, and casually reassures Elio over his concern that Mafalda will look for signs: “Don’t worry, she won’t find any”. His assurance hints at years of training to hide his same-sex relationships, and to appear more masculine than he might naturally want to be in order to appease his parents.”
omfg this article is eloquently putting into words so many thoughts I’ve had about Armie’s performance.
“In the final act of the film, at the highest point of Elio’s and Oliver’s intimacy, Hammer completely lets loose physically. As the pair drunkenly wander the streets of Rome, Oliver races towards the sound of The Psychedelic Furs’ “Love My Way” on a nearby car radio. Hammer bounds across the stone pavement, giddily screaming “You’re missing it!” His manner is silly, and filled with unchecked joy. Oliver is finally happy because he’s no longer performing; Hammer has finally given a performance that strips away all traces of performativity, because he found a director willing to do more than just desire him.”
I’m not crying, I swear.
