Femininomenon is a Sonic the Hedgehog fanzine focused on the female characters in the Sonic franchise! These characters are often pushed to the side and/or made one-dimensional, and this zine seeks to give them the depth and focus that they deserve.

Question from someone interested in applying to be a writer! I see on the info page that you accept fics that are "1-2.5k" words. Does this mean 1k to 2.5k words, or 1 word to 2.5k words? Or to put it another way: will this zine be accepting stories below 1k words?

Asking because I like to dabble in flash fiction, and some of my best pieces featuring sonic women that I'd show for the application are less than 1k.

No worries if you don't accept flash fic of course. Just seeking clarification. This zine looks awesome :)

Hi there! For writing samples, the word count for each should be up to 2.5k words, as written in the info doc. So we'd be happy to see your flash fiction!

The "1-2.5k words" (which does mean 1k-2.5k words, I'll edit that for clarity!) refers to the amount that an accepted writer will be expected to produce for the zine. If finished pieces are shorter than 1k words, the writer will be asked to create multiple pieces in order to meet the minimum word count.

Hi there! I'm sorry if you've already answered this but I checked the blog and I didn't see if there was an answer to a similar ask? </3

I'm interested in applying as a writer! However...I only have one finished fic I could submit as a sample. I didn't begin uploading any fics until last year, and so far I've just got one finished short-fic and one longer fic that's still a wip. I've just been too self-conscious about my writing to feel comfortable posting anything until the Sonic Big Bang 2024. Both my uploaded fics are Sonic related, though, and I do have some wips still in my Google Docs that aren't uploaded anywhere if more samples are needed, both Sonic and non-Sonic content. Would that be allowed?

That would be perfectly fine! Since we prefer Google Drive links for samples, they do not need to be from published works. Just make sure the sharing settings are set correctly so we can view it!

By the way, do make sure all your submissions are within the 2.5k word limit! We can’t wait to see your work.

Femininomenon Q&A #3

Q: Will it focus on Mobian characters only or are all ok?

A: This zine will focus on ALL Sonic ladies, regardless of if they're Mobian, human, or otherwise!

Q: Would the full bundle also include the digital products?

A: Yes, the full digital bundle will be included in ALL physical bundles as well!

Q: If I were accepted, will I be messaged via email or social media?

A: All applicants will be sent their application results via email. We will not reach out via social media unless we are unable to contact you via email.

Q: Can I depict Sonic characters as designed in my personal projects, AUs, or headcanons?

A: This zine will only be depicting canon iterations of the characters, not fanon, to mod discretion. This means that small changes (e.g. adding whiskers, scars, outfit changes) to the characters is acceptable, though large overhauls to the designs will not be allowed. We are happy to discuss these with you upon acceptance to the project.
