For old times sake is actually such a heartbreaking and beautiful sentiment. Like, let’s do it for the love that used to be here. It is reason enough.

Collecting books is great until you have to move all of them at once and realize that every one of the little bastards weighs about as much as a brick and collectively have the mass of a neutron star
#when I moved to Canada I only let myself bring ten books#out of like…300 that I had#and none of them were supposed to be books I’d read before (two ended up being so but they were my faves and had high re-read potential)#now five years later I think I’m back to ~100 but yeah I’ve had to move a few times between ON and QC and yeah. heavy.#‘have a big beautiful bookshelf’ they said. ‘IM RENTING’ I reply#biggest motivation to have a house is to have a real home library again

i think getting an undergrad degree should come with a free "second try" voucher, where if you want to go get a second different degree from any school because you picked the wrong thing as a 17 year old, its totally free to try again

The inconvenient thing about life is that half of it is all about listening to your body and letting yourself rest, and the other half is accepting that life will be uncomfortable and inconvenient sometimes and you've just go to make yourself push through your brain going Do Not Want and get the discomfort out of the way, and you never know which one it is.
#hahahahha. unironically took my year of rest and relaxation. dont know how or want to lock back in.#send help

The knitter will always be acquiring more yarn. If you point out to a knitter, who is in the process of purchasing more yarn, that they have fifteen skeins of yarn still wound into hanks that they have three other projects to finish, this confuses and upsets them
#I am running out of storage space#I have an entire Secretary desk full of yarn and quilting fabric 😵💫#there is no more room in my fibre arts Secretary desk

i cant say i recall any amazing call-and-response to the many shakespeare plays ive seen (or performed) over the course of my life, but over a decade ago now there was this teeny little theatre in Portland called the Shoebox Theatre that was literally an old one-story portland craftsman style house where either the old dining room or living room had been converted into a blackbox theatre (Except it was all painted white) and there were only 30 seats, lined in a u-shape on the outer edge of the room. This meant that all of the action took place within the circle of the audience. There were three or four exits off-stage (to the old kitchen/back hall/etc) that were used interchangeably (what i wouldnt give to go back in time and ask for a backstage tour)
Anyway--so the play I saw there was Macbeth. I'd never been keen on the old scottish play up to that point, but--oh my god. this performance changed my life.
the costumes and the era evoked by the props were evocative of, like, a modern war set during the 90s. the Three Witches were battlefield nurses who wore scrub masks and had blood-spattered uniforms.
lady macbeth's Out Damned Spot got water splashed on us. they turned off all the lights when macbeth spoke to the three witches, and the vision of banquo's son was a real little kid carrying a real lantern through this dark little room.
then the fight between macduff and macbeth at the end was a REAL SWORDFIGHT that was like ONE FOOT FROM MY FACE and i was so scared, but like, so entranced? and they were really careful with their blood squibs so they didn't get blood on the audience but i swear to god it was a close thing.
i've never felt closer to the god of theatre and maybe shakespeare as well than i did that evening at the shoebox theatre, watching these phenomenal actors perform a 400 year old play based on a 1000 year old scottish king in a repurposed living room surrounded by an audience of 30 people, when i could see the tears on lady macbeth's face and the despair on macduff's face when he learns his wife and son are dead, the desperation of macbeth right up in my face, the final fight so close i could reach out and touch if i wasnt afraid of getting a finger lobbed off
sadly i think the shoebox theatre went out of business a couple years later (long before covid came thru anyway) but i'll never forget that performance i saw. incredible.
love shakespeare. did a hamlet run tonight, looked someone dead in the eye to say “am i a coward?” during a speech and the fucker shrugged and nodded
#shakespeare#anyway macbeth is now my favourite play and im so obsessed with it and also the real story of macbeth
