Regardless of anyone’s personal feelings towards Kamala Harris, regardless of anyone’s political party, it’s very important that she’s the Vice President-elect.  We live in what’s ultimately a patriarchal oligarchy.  Ever since the U.S.A. was founded, it’s always been white guy as President (until Obama and he’s a very important figure for boys of color, but that’s another topic) and white guy as Vice President, men dominated Congress, men dominated the Supreme Court.  When people told young girls they could be anything, even the President, there was no proof it was possible as we only saw this wall of old white guys.  With Kamala Harris though, girls finally have someone to look at, regardless of if she ultimately has to take over for Biden or not because she’s in one of the highest positions of power.  Girls finally have reason to actually believe they can do this because it’s not just empty words anymore.  Girls can now genuinely believe that the sky is the limit.  And what makes this better?  Kamala is a person of color, so it’s not just white girls who get to see themselves in her place.  It’s essentially every single young girl who can potentially see themselves in her place because she’s a woman of color.

Girls who haven’t been born yet, or who are too young to remember, are not going to live in a world where there wasn’t a woman VP.  They’re going to grow up knowing Kamala Harris, a woman of color, was VP.  History is being made right now and these girls are not going to know any different.  They are not going to have to live through the same, “this is a steep uphill battle, if it’s possible at all” like every woman has had to think for so long.  They just… have it.

I just have so many feelings about Kamala Harris getting to be VP.  Yes, she has her issues, she’s not perfect, but this is just a huge step forward for women and, as a woman, I’m so glad I got to see this happen in my lifetime.
