nothing about my charity lives au is concrete because honestly i like how her death calls attention to the fact that draco is a fucking kid watching people die. it’s also kinda a cool freddy lounds moment with the silencing of alternative press. someone writes an article that death eaters don’t like and they disappear forever.
all i know for absolute certainty in the verse where char lives and fights in the battle of hogwarts is that they never found alecto carrow’s remains.

❛ is tha’ how you’ll be explainin’ the great vulture sittin’ on your hat , headmaster ? ❜
she sits to his right , peering around a startled slytherin boy during their christmas feast that is worlds more close than she’s used to . but cracking jokes to lighten the tension seems the best course of action .
there’s a serial murderer on the loose and trelawney — merlin help them all — has come down from her tower . they’re in dire need of fun . perched on charity’s head is a wide - brimmed , straw bonnet holding an array of folding flowers and a curious family of stuffed hamsters .
❛ i think your crackers were a grand idea , i feel more chipper already . ❜

◜ @maskforged· ◝ ⇾ severus .
HE HARBORS A SILENT DISGUST just as vicious as his colleague’s when it comes to the the pink tyrant. but trial and error has long since taught him that he must bide his time before he picks a fight.
so he keeps a firm hold of her wrist, knowing the next move charity makes will only serve to backfire instead. and certainly, her life is worth a thousandfold more than umbridge, who smiles coldly across from her with the false assumption that he’s taken her side.
the moment of fire does subside, however, ( much to severus’ relief. ) the last look he casts at umbridge is carefully concealed of any implications he’d want to share on a future occasion, before he’s guiding charity away. long after they’re out of earshot, he lets go of her wrist, austere gaze flitting her way.
❛ the temper you’ve just demonstrated was no better than a petulant student. control yourself, or you may find yourself in a worse fate than being permanently replaced. ❜
❛ the best of us lose our temper where children are involved , severus . you don’t have to act like you’re goin’ to take house points . ❜
she glowers up at him , her head tilt looking defiant no matter how willing she is to concede her own embarrassment with her behaviour .
❛ haven’t been so angry since --- since --- ❜
charity couldn’t name it for him . there were students of hers now years ago who’d come to her english classes with fresh bruises . umbridge reminds her of the parents , bold as brass monkeys telling her to keep her nose out of their business .
❛ care to tell me what opportunity you’re waitin’ on , then ? your element of surprise is either still intact or you’ve gone truly heartless overnight . ❜
her smile is small , just enough for him to realize she isn’t serious . charity gives him the benefit of the doubt as she returns from her blinding rage . charity would thank him but she knows best of all how to --- by never making it his business to keep her out of trouble again .

the entire scene was a mess, and helga had never been very fond of those. specially between students. yes, of course, sometimes kids got hurt. it never pleased her, though / and if the woman could, would most certainly avoid any kind of confrontation. looking at it now, the bruises on their skins, the sudden silent covering the place, the entire situation was rather clear. ❝ you should not have hurt him, charity. but not responding would mean you consent with their attitudes. i am glad you do not. ❞ a severe & warning, yet gentle voice announces, in a low tone. she speaks louder, however, when it comes to the boy. turning around, hands resting upon her own stomach, helga asserts ❝ is that the bravery your house proudly wears? for i see no bravery in violence. and this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated in these corridors, sir. the two of you, come with me. ❞
shooting a nasty look at the boy looking proud as anything , charity tries to forget the feeling in her chest that gripped her as she grabbed him by the hair and shouted for him to take it back !!
childish of her , perhaps . she goes scarlet as her hair , her eyes quickly downcast again . she’s never heard her professor sounding so stern , it’s enough to scare her .
❛ not about bravery . ❜
she grumbles and wishes she hadn’t . biting her hip hard , charity keeps back . it’s about teachin’ that even a nose up in the air can still get broken if they’re not mindful . genuinely terrified of what hufflepuff would have to say to that , charity remains silent and hurries after her .

hands folded on his desk, he listens, takes in her nervous expression and the letter she deposited on his desk, before smiling.
“ congratulations charity, being published is no easy task, though it is well deserved in your case. i look forward to reading it. ” he continues to smile, though it dims into something more shrewd as he drops the letter, clasping his fingers together.
“ but? what is it that concerns you? if you doubt your worthiness, as is quite normal in situations such as this, don’t: you would not have been accepted if they did not like your writing.”
❛ i --- thank you , sir , honestly --- it’s just that --- ❜
but she needn’t trip over her words . he asks her directly the issue , she’s always liked that about him . lulled into a less skittish state , charity’s wringing hands fall twitching to her sides .
❛ my writing , it’s --- it isn’t tha’ , headmaster . it’s the content tha’ makes me a bit nervous , you see . it’s less objective than how i teach my classes . ❜

bouncing back and forth between charity and queenie is rlly enlightening for me about what kind of nice char is overall.
she’s an emotional person , she’s someone who likes animated people and values kindness in others . when she feels something , you know . but kindness to her isn’t support , at least not entirely . it’s why her kindness is a strong drink after a bad day , an arm around the shoulder . she will tell people what their problem is if they don’t know . and then she will help them resolve it .
she doesn’t go to bed angry and she doesn’t start fights unless her buttons have been really pushed . she’s fair and equal to everyone because people are not completely similar nor easily read . she’s a tough - love type , someone who’ll stand by you until the end or until she’s forced to walk away for the exhaustion .
char has a lot on her plate at any given time , she’s shy but she’s proud and protective of her friends once she knows them . her kindness is synonymous with her strength .

charity’s death was absolutely just a power move on voldemort’s part . she didn’t need to die , he probably considered it a waste of pure magical blood . but the saddest thing is that nobody knows what happened to her . nearly everyone who witnessed it dies by the end of the war and the ones who are definitely living would incriminate themselves or just don’t remember for all the executions .
so charity’s family is left in the dark as to what happened with their daughter . her father , the least likely of all to do so tries to retrace her steps and find where she might be hiding , desperately hoping she’s still alive . her mother sinks into a melancholy that takes years to shake , her only discussion on the topic is that she knows in her heart her daughter is gone and she’ll mourn as she sees fit .
and leon packs up her stuff , tries to move on while knowing he’s never going to get the closure he wants . he takes in her cats , gives them a loving home . he finds her music collection , her playlists with his name on them that she never could find the courage to mail to him with a walkman . he listens to them on and off for the rest of his life and does the best he can to keep her memory alive .

she’s cycled through the stages of grief for a death that still hasn’t happened yet --- her own . they see fit to keep her contained but no longer restrained , leaving her to touch the sticky , drying blood above her eye with shaking hands . the tears have stopped , for now , but she hears a noise and they nearly begin afresh .
