so, i've finished my rewatch of phantom blood, thus time to do so

Firstly, i am comparing Dio to TFP Starscream specifically, comparison with other Starscream verions is an excersise for the reader.

As i've said, Dio and SC are similar in many ways: both are cunning, cruel bastards who enjoy turturing their victims, both want to be rulers of everything, are arrogant, yet charismatic. Both want to persevere and survive no matter what. Both will pretend to be weak and sorry if cornered.

That is for similarities. A lot of them! But their difference lies in ineresting details.

For example, Dio isn't shown to care about praise as much as SC is, however, Dio cares about his pride more that SC.

The most important difference between them, IMO, is that SC is not the biggest bad, there's Megatron above him. This dynamic is completely absent for Dio, bc he IS the big bad of JJBA, the final boss, the heroes have to first defeat his henchmen(SC also tried to use henchmen like Makeshift, but not for long).

Another important thing is that SC is often... a kind of comic releif character, whereas Dio is not.

Also, Dio is kinda obsessed with Jonathan, which makes him similar to Megatron.

All in all, here are my points!

Back in, like, 2018 i remember reading a Dio redemption fanfic in which he, after obtaining his godly form, travels back in time to be with Jonathan.

Now look at me. It weird that is happened twice, y'know.

I don't care about Dio that much tho, he is charismatic ofc, but not my fave in JJBA.

Also, i found out that ppl who like TFP SC also like... Polnareff(me included!)

As i've already mentioned i was rewatching jjba, and i think it is very interesting to compare Dio with Starscream, especially tfp.

I find it fascinating that these two characters can be so similar yet so different.

yeah yeah Dess knight theory for all the obvious reasons but seriously the biggest reason i believe Dess knight theory is just... it makes perfect sense thematically

Dess's role in deltarune near perfectly parallels Asriel's role in undertale: the eldest child of a person in a position of power (the king in undertale, the mayor in deltarune) is lost and/or dies and becomes a haunting presence over the story, their leitmotif littering the game, and their story eventually cultivating in them being the final boss

their appearances parallel each other as well (large shoulder armor, broad shoulders/chest with thin waist/hips, holes in hands, horns)

plus, deltarune is a parallel to undertale. there are and will be connections between the two games. and what better parallel is there than the already semi-established parallel between Asriel and Dess? Dess knight would just complete the already apparent parallel between the two

i think a big thing with Carol knight or Rudy knight or whatever is that youre missing the forest for the trees - every single little detail wont matter as much as a larger narrative conclusion in the end

(now, if youve seen my analyses before, youll know im a class 1 deltarune overanalyzer. overanalyzing deltarune is not only a hobby but a lifestyle. but while overanalyzing is super fun, its important to take a step back and think about the actual likelihood of what youre analyzing being canon)

i have nothing against Carol knight theory, but Dess knight theory just feels more narratively satisfying

(but none of this matters since we all know the knight is papyrus)

I haven't seen anyone do this yet, and these tracks aren't on the OST as far as I'm aware, but here is all the audio files for the piano Kris plays in the Holiday house scene. They sound like real recordings to me, although I don't know who is playing. I've heard it might be Toby based on the style but I can't say for sure

a shadow of your former self.

okay. so. recent inform8tion has 8een made apparent to me.

a friend of mine played chapter 2 of deltarune, and saw seam react to the shadow crystal. very cool stuff. a factoid of it was made apparent that i had forgotten over the years and no one felt important to remind me of this fact!

he descri8ed it as, invisi8le. the actual crystal is invisi8le. they're called shadow crystals 8ecause you can only see their shadow.

so that got me thinking. when you 8eat the knight, you get a 8lack shard AND a shadow crystal.

it came from the knights sword.

which then got me thinking. to the hidden room in chapter 3 when kris can't find their hand.

what if, the knight as we can see them now, is dess's shadow.

not like a metaphorical shadow, or some magical shadow-i mean this f8cker right here.

is the literal shadow of dess. dess is still there, 8ut is not visi8le or even audi8le. that's why her text gets rendered in the game as "unused." you can't hear it. you can't find it. all you can find, is the shadow of the lost girl.

8ecause right now, she has the same sh8t happening to her that makes the shadow crystals invisi8le.

darkners must be based off of objects in the light world because all fiction is based off of reality. lightners, by their nature of being fictional, cant concieve of anything new, and thus all fiction in the light world must be a direct analogue of itself.

the knight doesnt work like lightners or darkners because its from a different plane of existence, its 'new'. it doesnt have to be based off of anything.

the question "who is the knight" isnt nearly as important as "*why* is the knight"

something has to move the plot forward

without the knight, deltarune isnt worth playing

Do you think Toby Fox has Deltarune completely planned out or does he have to change it because of the insane amount of fan theories? Like, with the amount of theories, Someone is bound to get something right.

So, just imagine Toby Fox, sitting down after a long day of Deltaruning. Then, he switches on the TV and watches fan theories on YouTube. He's having fun, laughing at people getting stuff wrong.

Then, he frowns as someone correctly theorised some insignificant detail about chapter 5, so now he has to rewrite that detail because the fandom MUST NEVER BE RIGHT.
