This is a true story. My pregnant self (8 weeks) watched the Faith episode (Outlander) yesterday, which I had never seen before. I weeped for and with Claire, and afterwards I was in a pensive mood all night. I thought about my own baby. How was it doing? How would I react if I lost it? I suddenly had a grim feeling about my pregnancy.

Today at the doctors appointment, I was diagnosed with a missed abortion. Even though it was devastating, I was able to handle it as I had thought this scenario through yesterday. My obgyn was on the brink of tearing up while I tried to keep it together. I’m glad I watched the episode last night. Even though I don’t know anyone who has ever admitted to having miscarried, I didn’t feel alone. The episode made me feel like this must happen all the time to so many women.

No one even knows I was pregnant, but someday I’ll tell everyone about the miscarriage. I want to talk to others about theirs and mine. I want to admit that my pregnant silhouette is mocking me, that it was so very awkward walking out of that office, that it is devastating having to wait for my body to bleed.

Please never feel ashamed or guilty about miscarrying. It happens. A lot.

This will be a long evening and an even longer night for me, but I’ll get through it and it’ll make me stronger.

In the animation movie “ UP” they lose their baby.. it’s such a heartbreaking moment. She completely loses herself after she sits outside staring think about the “what ifs”. I can relate and feel her pain. I wish more moves showed the pain.. and how a couple difts apart after a loss.
