While having evolved in New Guinea and Australia, the Daws have been a cosmopolitan species since ancient times.
What they lack in dexterity and strength they make up for in vocal repertoire. They are exceptionally skilled at speech, readily learning and using the calls of animals to tame and use them. They have long learned the speech of other intelligent species to cooperate with them. Before people knew of other intelligent beings across the world, all species first knew of the little people in the trees.
Highly social and gregarious, they form especially close bonds with their mates, most often as monogamous pairs but occasionally as triads and quartets. Daws lack any form of obvious sexual dimorphism or gender roles. Usually both sexes are expected to court, be colorful, brood their eggs, and tend to eachother.
It is claimed by some that it is the Daws who are the most important of all species, that it was them who taught all other species their gift of language. But this is what Daws themselves believe, and they might be biased.

Bug Crossing 🐛
I got the idea for this piece on a sunny day a while ago after seeing a beetle in the park struggle to get across the hot tarmac path, just a silly visual to explore the question of how much we should be mindful of the wildlife we share a habitat with - they live here too!
