Uncle Herve,

I’m glad today was peaceful for you, you did not even have to struggle for breath, you simply just closed your eyes and let God take you. I bet a miracle happened for you, before you took your last breath, every little memory and moment came back like a slideshow through your mind, and you were able to feel all it all again. All the decades of your life, your childhood and growing up, the war, love, children, and every meaningful day that led up to where you lay now, happily.

And I bet everybody you had an impact on in life came knocking on your mind, so you can relive those memories and always know you will live on through them. I hope I was one standing in line for you to remember because I know you will always live on in my heart. I think I can say for a lot of us, you were one of our heroes. You saved us kids from our boring school years and lives, and took us to the greatest getaway. Spending a day or two in Rhode Island was a vacation weekend well spent, and I always hated to leave. We were all together, celebrating, being a family, walking down to the beach and writing our names in the sand. I’ll always cherish those memories.

You were a happy man, and one of the most brilliant, decorated men that share roots in our family. I’ll always remembering you saying to me, “You gonna grow up to be like tatay?” or “Your dad is a good man, and I know you’re gonna grow up to be just like him, “ and other phrases along those terms. At the time, I had no idea what I would become, but for what it’s worth now, you encouraged me and loved me, and like father like son, I hope you are proud of me and what I will be in the future.

Rest peacefully Uncle Herve, death doesn’t take our memories away and love can’t separate us.
