❮ 💙 ❯ › The hedgehog’s ear twitched at the sound of shoes scratching against the ground. He turned his head and silently gasped, his mouth making a small gape. A short twinkle appeared in his pupils at the sight of his alternate.

   ❝ Oh—! Another one! ❞ He turned the rest of his body and waved with all his energy. 

   ❝ ‘Ey there! A nickname… ? I didn’t know I needed one. ❞ He chuckled as he rubbed in between his quills.

   ❝ How about… Ah! Soaps! I love ‘em, so I don’t mind if ya’ use ‘em for me! Nice t’ meet’cha, Knight! ❞ 

   A smile touched the corner of his cheek, thinking, ‘ This one’s pulling out all the stops, huh ? ’

  ❝ Well, if ya’ gotta know, I think I-I-I’m sixteen? Seventeen? Yeah, let’s go with that! Se-ven-teen! ❞

  His arms crossed across his chest, saying, ❝ Now ya’ gotta tell me what yours is! The last one I met was way older than me! Taller, too… hm. ❞ His brow twitched slightly.

“I mean, I guess y’don’t NEED a nickname but it’d be easier when meetin’ alternates. At least that’s the way I see it!” 

“...uh, I’m nineteen.” How were younger alternates taller? That made no sense. Ugh, that just wasn’t fair. Knight raised an eyebrow, “I’ve yet to meet an alternate as short as me or shorter.”

He cleared his throat and grinned. “Soaps, huh?? That’s pretty unique, I like it.”

My first internet fandom back in ye olde times! The Archie Comics Sonic the Hedgehog series was so engrossing. What really stood out to me as a child/teen was the female cast- many more characters than just the three I drew too. They were all so strong and diverse in their personalities and backstories. Each dealt with a variety of heavy issues told through mature storytelling that made me feel respected as a reader at such a young age. Rarely do I see that kind of approach anymore. What a gem of a series ❤
