Pocnatural Day Five: Supernatural Beings 🤍✨
I’m pretty sure there are different versions of the story of La Llorna, but the version I’ve been told is a woman was cheated on by her husband, and she went insane to the point she drowned her two kids in a river. After she realized what she did, she killed herself as well.
Legend goes she wanders the streets at night crying for her children (my uncle swears he heard her once on a beach at night).
I have an AU in my head in which Benny is an Afro Latino hunter who has a childhood fear of La Llorona, and when kids start turning up dead he realizes it may not be a legend after all.

Pocnatural: Traditions/Festivals 🧡🌻
Dia de Los Muertos is a holiday so I hope this is okay, but I’m guessing y’all know what this is from movies like Coco (hmph). BASICALLY it’s a day to celebrate people (loved ones, whether it be family, friends, even pets!) who have passed away. It’s not really a day to be sad, because like I said before, it’s a holiday meant to have you celebrate your loved ones lives.
I made an ofrenda (alter) for my grandpa, great grandma, and my rabbit! We keep it up year round, but it’s decorated with things like the colorful skulls pictured below, candles, and of course pictures of them. An ofrenda can be big or small, but the one I have is medium sized!

spn pongal moodboard for @spnpocdirectory's cultural exchange event day 4: traditions/festivals explanation of pongal below cut:
Pongal (பொங்கல்), or Thai Pongal (தைப்பொங்கல்), is a Hindu harvest festival celebrated by Indian and Sri Lankan Tamils every year around mid-January (it follows the Tamil solar calendar).
There are officially four days of Pongal but most people only celebrate three or less (personally I only celebrate the second day and a little of the first day because Pongal is not easy to celebrate in urban areas/countries).
The Four Days:
Tumblr media
Day 1: Bhogi Pongal (idk what exactly bhogi means I'm sorry)
Bhogi Pongal is about starting anew because it is the last day Marghali month according to the Tamil calendar. People celebrate by wearing new clothes, cleaning their houses, and discarding old possessions. And they discard their old things by gathering around a bonfire and burning everything 👍 (reason for choosing the pic of Sam and Dean standing by a bonfire).
Tumblr media
Day 2: Surya Pongal (Surya = Sun)
Surya Pongal is the main day of the festival and the first day of the Thai month. This day is dedicated to the sun god (reason for choosing the pic of Cas looking at the sun). To celebrate this day we make the pongal dish in a decorated pot as seen in the second image. Traditionally, the pongal dish is prepared outdoors and as a group. So the pot is placed over a fire and milk is added in. Once it starts to boil, freshly harvested rice and cane sugar are added. Eventually the pot will start to overflow and when this happens everyone will shout "Pongalo Pongal" which translates to "may this rice boil over. In urban areas its typically just one or a few people making the dish in the kitchen on the stove. We also decorate our doorsteps with kolam (which is depicted in the third image)
Tumblr media
Day 3: Mattu Pongal (Mattu = Cow)
Mattu Pongal is a day where we worship the cattle because they are sacred animals in the Hindu religion. The cattle are adorned with flower garlands (as seen in pictures 7 and 8) and their horns are painted. The cows basically get special treatment that day like being fed pongal and other natural sweet treats and are bathed.
Tumblr media
Day 4: Kanum Pongal (Kanum = to visit)
Kanum pongal is about reunion and visiting family and friends (which is why I chose the middle picture)

@spnpocdirectory cultural exchange event day 3 : dance
for a dance I chose Eileen doing the Na’sh dance. Which is basically just flipping your hair from side to side, but it’s not a fast dance move. So you’d nod your head twice on each side before switching. I think this dance move works with Eileen because you don’t even have to hear the music to perform it since the beat/pattern never changes.

i think that mary would have passed on jade jewelry to dean for luck and protection when he was little and he would continue to always wear the jewelry to keep her close to him :3

@spnpocdirectory pocnatural exchange event day 1 : snacks
imagine little dumplings that sorta taste like donuts, or if you like donut holes, well, that’s very similar to Luqaimat, a middle eastern snack served in Ramadan and social gatherings, loved by children and adults since it can be dipped in honey, date syrup, or even sugar syrup. I drew Noor ( Arabnatural Jack ) eating them since he seems to really like sweets, so that’s probably one of his comfort foods.

Pocnatural Cultural Exchange Day 1 - Food. (headcanon under cut)
this is gonna be a bit of a jumbled mess so bear with me.
Ok so I'm reimagining Sam and Dean as half-Gujarati, with their mom being Indian and Jain, and their dad being white. For background, you all can read more about the Jain diet here, but basically it's strict lacto-vegetarism (no animal products except milk) and no root vegetables such as potatoes and onion. A decent amount of Jains in the West do become vegan, but it's not a requirement. Before you start wondering, the food still tastes great and the cuisine evolved without the need of these ingredients.
Here, as Dean did grow up somewhat with his mother in his early years, he remembers and misses her. For this reason, he adheres strictly to the diet, learning to cook via blogs on the internet and cookbooks, doing his best to substitute ingredients. Sam, on the other hand, doesn't really care about all this as he doesn't remember his mother at all. So he does not follow the rules of eating, and has no issue eating whatever John puts in front of him. John does his best to accommodate Dean's eating (he understands as he also misses his wife), but he sometimes forgets, and when that happens Dean goes to bed hungry.
When Dean and Sam reconnect and travel on the road, Sam always makes sure to buy food that Dean can eat and Dean shares stories about his mother in return. Sam, the lore nerd, goes to the library to find out more about his heritage, especially the parts that Dean doesn't know or cannot remember, and in doing so he feels closer to his mother who he never really met.
Eventually Mary does come back, and when she does, the three of them grow closer by cooking and sharing meals together. Also she doesn't die here again btw, this is a happy ending.

Day Two: Clothing Accessories + Day One: Food/Snacks @spnpocdirectory
Still fully stand by when I said Benny should’ve been a Black/Haitian man. Fully believe he also would’ve wore bandannas and those diamond studded earrings <33

cas + local snacks icons for @spnpocdirectory's cultural exchange event day 1
snacks explanation below cut
i'm from Singapore but also these are probably popular in other areas of SEA
first icon: iced gem biscuits
i know these are british but they were just such a constant in my childhood i had to use them. tbh i don't even like them as much but they were just at every birthday party i went to LMAO. also they're multicoloured <3 🏳️‍🌈
second icon: kuehs
to be specific: rainbow kueh lapis (the rainbow one 🏳️‍🌈), ondeh ondeh (the green ball with coconut flakes), and tutu kueh (white one). i don't think there is a translation for the word kueh but they're essentially just bite-sized snacks/desserts. rainbow kueh is made of soft and chewy multicoloured layers stacked on one another. you can technically bite into one as a whole and eat it quick but most people would peel off each layer and eat each separately. ondeh ondeh are pandan infused rice flour dough rolled into a ball which is filled with a palm sugar filling and coated with coconut flakes. tutu kueh is a steamed rice flour cake filled with a coconut filling.
third icon: potato wheel crackers
these are basically regular potato crackers but idk mixed with crack or something i don't know what makes them so good but they are. i used to buy a packet of them for recess everyday during primary school when they used to just cost 50cents. have never grown tired of these and if you give me a whole packet right now i would finish em.

hello! this blog was created by @snoopydiaz to chronicle individuals who are people of color in the spnblr experiences of racism. i’m hoping to collect these asks by november 6th for a project.  guidlines there are some guidelines for sending asks
1. as it is the whole blog’s premise, please don’t send an ask if you are a white person.  2. anon is on for individuals who are fearful of spnblr’s repercussions against bloggers of color who are speaking up about racism 3. if you do not want your ask to be published, please add an asterisk (*) at the end.  4. i am a blogger of color myself and would like to protect my mental health a bit. so please tag your ask if it includes experiences with threats of sa.  5. troll asks are deleted.  i just want to highlight this is about experiences with racism and i know that might make some white people in fandom upset or uncomfortable. if you want to say something to me venmo me 10$ and send an ask to my main. don’t bring your anger here, it will be deleted.  anyways, the ask box is open. and if any people of color need to decompress after send an ask because talking about racism can be traumatizing please don’t hesitate to dm on my main.
