hi, just wondering if we will get to choose our MC’s appearance at some point in the game? :)

I’ve been totally debating this…I wanted to have a sort of “vague” appearance stat in relation to the MC—like how before the party you can choose whether you’re a typical “attractive looking” actor or an “unconventional looking” actor, because that plays into future roles/media perception.

Plus some roles require you to change your appearance drastically (hair, weight, etc) so that’s already implemented.

But, I think I will include some cosmetic customization solely for role playing purposes. Stuff like height, skin color, hair, etc.

how would sutton and lex react if mc brought them on a movie date but its a movie they starred in/directed? would they prefer a movie that wasn't related to them or some other kind of date instead

Sutton isn’t humble, or meek about their accomplishments/accolades. You have to remember that despite their mom’s…personality, this is someone who has been told from the moment they were born that they were destined for greatness, that they were better, smarter, and more talented than anyone else in the room. Someone nurtured on praise and ego. They LOVE to watch themselves on the big screen. It fills them with so much pride. It proves to them, that yes, I am the best. See? I matter. Sutton is the kind of actor to take someone out on a first date to their own movie premiere anyway.

Lex on the other hand doesn’t mind either way—he (at least at the beginning of the story) cares only for his own opinion. Art is meant to be observed. He’d say, “There is no room in cinema for faux humility or misplaced embarrassment.” Whether it’s his movies or yours, he thinks the mere act of sitting next to someone and watching a film is one of the most intimate things you can do.

Hey. I'm really enjoying the demo!

One thing that totally threw me off, though, is a Swedish guy named Dave. It's not really a name that is used here. I checked some statistics and only around 81 out of roughly 10 million people are named Dave. The name is also incredibly awkward to pronounce in Swedish. My headcanon is that his name is David and some Americans started calling him Dave 😊

His name is David lol! Kendall calls him by his first name when he almost pukes in their car before your audition

Yes—the choice of parents is single supportive mother or two (emotionally) distant parents.

Writing update 10/28/24

Hi all! Just wanted to start my weekly updates regarding Spotlight—transparency is a huge deal for me and this is how I’m going to be informing you all of the story’s progress.

So, in regard to the next update: since chapter two will have a boatload of branches (starting with MCs who got the role in Honey’s vs those who did not) I will be releasing the chapter in parts. The first update of Ch2 will be for MCs who didn’t get the role, and the second update will be for MCs who did get the role!

Breaking up the chapter will just be easier for me in terms of managing workload and word count, and create a more cohesive plot line moving forward (especially because of the large number of variables.)

Of course! Sutton never forgot. There was just a lot of miscommunication at that time, mostly from their mother. You’ll find out more about that in chapter 2.

First of all - I'm hooked. Second - Lex, Sutton and Kendall have a grip on my soul already. Third - that C reveal had me GASPING. Crazy stuff, can't wait for consequences.

Now a question, hopefully without spoilers - are there multiple ways the current demo can end (depending on choices and stats) or is the outcome set?

There are no set endings. If you’ve ever played Baldurs Gate or Dragon Age, each character has two endings (“good” or “bad” but in this case I don’t believe in bad endings) based on choices you make. Same for the MC. The third and final Act of the game has a time jump as well, so the consequences of your actions will get to fully play out.

hi! i really liked your demo but the MC seems semi-set, almost completely set, in terms of personality, is it on purpose? will it change later? just wondering! :)

I think my writing style and the way I write dialogue (sarcastic, a little absurd) definitely gives the MC more of a “set” personality—but I hope it’s not too limiting for roleplay purposes! And knowing this, I try to include a lot of differing core traits (shy vs sociable, charismatic vs cutthroat, professional vs unprofessional, confrontational vs unconfrontational) and dialogue choices to mitigate that :)
