Back Up *MOSTLY*

All on-premises Squidge services (squidge.org, Image Hosting, SquidgeWorld, Classic Squidge, IRC) went down Thursday night at approximately 6pm Pacific time due to network issues.  We seem to be mostly up this morning, with the exception of Classic Squidge which only hosts a very small number of websites that depend on a very insecure, outdated version of PHP.  That said, there could still be…

Unplanned Downtime

We had some issues overnight, which led to our database server failing.  Not sure why it didn’t auto-recover like it should have and we will investigate.  Meanwhile, all services are back up (though SquidgeWorld is going through Sunday maintenance as I type this).  If after all services are back up you notice anything odd, please let us know.

Intermittent Outages

Apparently our ISP, Ziply Fiber, is having intermittent outages in the Pacific Northwest.  We had a 45 minute downtime earlier, and a 15 minute downtime just now.  If you can’t access any Squidge.org services with the exception of FenRecs.com (which is remote hosted) then please wait a bit and then retry.  Sorry, but this seems to be out of our control. Brief Downtime

We went down for approximately 45 minutes, apparently due to an ISP issue.  Both our fiber lines seemed to be down simultaneously, which meant there was something in the ISP’s switching office that barfed and they had to bring things back up.  Nothing within Squidge.org itself went down, but all services except for FenRecs.com seemed to be affected. so my friend gillian and i were discussing the tweet from bitty’s account in which this happens

and we said what if nursey keeps suggesting girls from everywhere for dex to go on dates with? he has to ask ransom for help after he runs out because even though nursey knows a lot,,, of people,, ransom knows everyone

but dex keeps rejecting them and nursey is disappointed because he is nursing (,,ha) a crush on dex and just wants to make him happy even if it isn’t with him but dex keeps turning them down like “she sounds frustrating” or “she sounds boring”

ransom ends up saying dude pack it in and stop asking me for girl recommendations that boy is clearly Not Interested

so in the end they’re in the basement and dex is fixing the dryer for the 500th time and nursey is reeling off this list of girls when dex turns round and says “dude, i appreciate the, um, huge and ongoing effort but you do realise im gay right”

nursey drops everything he’s holding. just drops everything to the floor and he’s like “will im sorry i didn’t know” and he expects dex to fight him or chirp him or something but dex just smirks, turns back to the dryer and says “chill”

Image Hosting - RESOLVED

We attempted an upgrade (a one-click, no mess upgrade which bombed) to get around a defect, but it bombed last night and no amount of pleading and prodding would get it to work. So this morning we’re live on the older version of our image hosting software and things are back up.  If you see issues, please let us know.

Short Outage

About an hour ago we went down for about 20 minutes, but things should be up and running smoothly now.  We had a power issue (electrician is testing some things) so we had to flip the breaker.  And while most items are protected via battery backup, one of our systems blurped and didn’t automatically come back up.  We’re good to go now, though.  But if you see any issues, don’t hesitate to contact…

I was introduced to fic binding yesterday, and ZOMG now I want ALL of my favorites - including this one - in bound form! ::grabby hands::

My first binding project was a fic of my own. Trail Magic (title is link) is a very important fic to me and I love pretty much everything about it: the amazing gif artwork (link) by @tangotangredi that inspired it for the 2019 @omgcpreversebang; the story I managed to put together; the memories of loved ones that I included in it; the memories of talking with friends as I wrote it; the responses I've gotten about it.

It was definitely the first one I wanted to bind.

I actually printed one too many copies of it when I was printing, and then I messed up on punching the holes for sewing on one of them. I used that as a practice for ever other step along the way, so one of these is that one. I'll give it it's own post though.

Overall, I enjoyed this process. I'm glad I did this and I'm glad I bound this fic in particular.

I learned a lot over the last month. The most important of which is to not try to bind 15 books at the same time.

I'm the primary mod of SquidgeWorld Archive, and have somewhat been absent from Tumblr because of all the bullying that occurs here. For example, I got an email from someone that said, "You need to go look at this post on Tumblr," and it turns out the person who sent me that email wanted me to know that they had called me a "Piece of shit" on Tumblr.

Doesn't make for much of a pleasant experience, does it?

That said, I would appreciate if people have issues or questions about Squidge.org, SquidgeWorld, Squidge Images, or any other service that Squidge.org has been giving - for free - to the community for the last 30+ years, please come to me. Either here or in a support request.

Oh look, it seems like there's a Republican-led movement to purge voter rolls in the lead-up to the election! It's almost as if your vote matters and they don't want you to vote! Anyway, I whipped up a quick map (based on this) that shows when the voter registration deadline is in each state. There are a few deadlines coming up in the next week or so.

If you live in a state that regularly purges voter rolls for infrequent voters (the orange ones in the first map), or if you moved recently, it's good to check if you're still registered to vote.

Vote.org makes it super easy to check your registration: https://www.vote.org/am-i-registered-to-vote/

Just put in your address and DOB and they'll tell you whether you're registered. (And they give you a quick link to register online if it turns out that you're not! Only the 9 states in white on my map don't have online registration, and for those they provide instructions on how to do it via mail or in person.)

So yeah, give yourself peace of mind -- do a quick check. :)
